I've gotta say my favorite has gotta be Samantha and Lonnie in Gone Home.
The riot grrl soundtrack that really evoked the indignity and anger the characters felt in their time/place really helped drive both the character development and the atmosphere of the early 90s setting. I've got to say the absolutely superb scoring is an excellent example of using "in-world" music to help set the tone and flesh out characters. It's similar to the execution of music in The Wire, which introduced me to the technique. And the effect reminds me of how in the movie Moonlight, the chopped & screwed music played in the protagonist's car was remixed in a unique way to reflect his economically deprived background, his black/gay identity, and the resultant conflicted state of the character trying to be defensively hypermasculine but true to himself as well. When these techniques are brought into video games, it really elevates them higher as art.
So, I ask you: who is your favorite LGBT+ couple in video games and what did you like about how the game developed them?
