ERA getting shoutouts is nothing new. The designer for DMC5 gave ERAs DMC Discord a shoutout during the Inside Xbox GamesCom stream yesterday. Rod Fergusson gave ERAs Gears 5 thread a shoutout during an interview and the BC guys at MS gave ERA a shoutout for a leak. Geoff Keighley has also a ton of times given ERA shoutouts on his E3 stream.

But what is posted throughout many threds is such a pathetic display of bigotry, ignorance and stupidity that I feel a deep shame to contribute to the member count of this site.

The only stupidity/ignorant posts I see are people like you, who cannot simply ignore a site and instead request to be permabanned. And considering how many people that posts on ERA I assume many have the same feelings.

Also, a ton of devs seems to follow and even post there (like Rod mentioned there in the interview). You probably think it's toxic, it maybe is, but somehow, apparently devs like the feedback and the discussions that surrounds their games. That kind of thinking is in all essence the This is America music video, everything around you is chaos, yet you decide to only look at the positive nothing more of it. That's all you're looking at, and sure the few OT's are nice and everything but look at any thread it nearly always derails 5-7 pages in and then it's never moderated to go back. There's a few good/fun discussions I wouldn't say lots. Obviously you've moved over because of activity a lot of people did and that's just something that will happen. Nobody wants to post on a slow forum. They want instant.

Yes once era started up devs said they hated the community and the atmosphere of GAF, and ironic that is now ERA is now.

If they're being honest I think most devs want nothing to do with the hardcore part of their fanbases. Too many crazy ass, no life losers in there. Same with musicians or athletes and their obsessed fans etc. They want their money, but no one wants to deal with crazy, random people.

Forums are too heavily made up of nutjobs that obsess over their hobbies these days. They started that way and got better gradually as the internet went mainstream and brought in more regular folk. The rise of social media has largely killed forums off for that mainstream crowd and now they're just the whackos and us old fogeys that have been into forums for 20+ years and didn't move onto social media. And most of us are probably like me and stay out of the controversial topics as we've got better shit to do and/or just aren't invested in our hobbies to that degree anymore.

So yeah, if I was a major dev I wouldn't have any online presence beyond sending out standard PR and wouldn't care at all what the online extremists in forums were saying about my products. That's a few thousand people when AAA games are trying to sell millions. And the average person doesn't give a fuck about the "issues" the losers on the extremes on both sides get outraged over. They just want to play games and have fun. Indies are a different story as they sell many fewer copies and most need to cater to that hardcore gamer niche as they lack mainstream appeal.

I would like to point out the Easy Allies OT community as a perfect example of ruined experiences by the overzealous folk that tend to be the most vocal on Era. To the point where they have thrown hissy fits over Colin Moriarty working with Brandon Jones on Colin's own podcast, trying to insult/remove people who enjoy Senran Kagura, and make disingenuous comparisons to certain folks as being as bad as known rapists (look up the comment that makes the comparison to Harvey Winestein).

Colin Moriarty (though not a developer, he is a well known critic within the industry with many sources and friends), Danial Vavre, the Soret brothers (The Last Night), the Skyrim user (who apparently was banned, first time I heard of that), are who I trust over people like Austin Walker or Jason Schrier, who have been shown to be untrustworthy folk.

As for why they don't post here? Burned bridges by the same toxic community that runs Era. Also some of those folk (like Jason Schrier and Austin Walker), openly are far left authoritarian's themselves.

You know the funny thing is that I was once dogpiled in a thread not long after the forum went on (ironically it was about my dog) and I got a short message after from a mod afterwards where expressed sympathy to me about that frustrating situation. Wrote him back that they should do their best to stop this because it's only going to get worse and.... look at where we are.

I'm just glad to see more and more resentment towards this crap over time. But this was to be expected. Most moderates sympathizing with those far left people do not seem to understand they WILL NOT STOP. They'll just continue to raise the bar until they piss off every single moderate out there. What is even more insane, is that Zhuge and Shinobi are admins over there. Both people in the industry for different reasons. Either Shinobi's Wushu Studios game is going to be the most pandering story/theme to those types, or both of those guys are kicking themselves for falling into the trap and they can't get out at the moment. They are far less active I noticed than they were here and when the site first launched, and they never respond to requests to discourse about the problems there.

Blows my mind, really.
