Like I said in the previous thread, I don't normally care to talk about ERA because I believe in leaving his or hers alone if they aren't directly attacking you. It's best to let them wallow in their own mud if that's what they want. However, I would like to say that I find is extremely funny how so many of them who left here made the claim that NeoGAF would become some Alt+Right filth hole with nothing but a bunch of racist, sexist etcs etcs. Yet, here we are. NeoGAF has become, for once, a place of back and forth debate. While ERA becomes a toxic echochamber of far left ideas and babying. Again, I won't say much about them, but I think it's funny how things are turning out.

It's because ResetEra is tumblr. Eventually an issue will happen that will split the group and turn them on one another. It happens to most echo chambers. It happens A LOT on Tumblr, with one of the ones I can think is the Steven Universe fan art debacle.

Honestly I think some of those people just say they are trans for the sake of saying it, and have never gone through the process. I'd like for anyone of them to show me other wise. In their book its called equality/diversity or being tolerant and open minded. It does not really matter what name they are giving it, since its blatantly obvious its neither of those terms.

I was number 5668. Still was in the grace period where everyone was allowed. I remember it being 2.30 in the night and i just knew i had to sign up then or i was toast. That was back when the site oozed amazing potential.
Right, so its probably very easy to make an alt since it does not actually see which IP you are using, i assume. Which would explain the dozens of alts floating around the ERA hemisphere, i suppose.

If you go back to the very start of its formation it's pretty clear that there was active sabotage going on in here before stuff blew up...the project justice will hopefully shed more light on it but basically the the theory is the crazies tried to get control of this site by destabilizing the place.....their action didn't have the desired effect so they started their own site pretending it was a different place away from the oppressive moderation and culture and people lapped it up like a cat drinking milk not realizing they basically just followed the same cancer that made this place a hole...notice anything about the 2 sites now.......one is an open discussion place where you can post and discuss topics without fear of being lynched....the other is the opposite.

I don't think I'm a smart person or anything (average really), but it seemed so obvious to me that that entire site was just fucked from the start, and I never for a second wanted to go there.
What was it that seemed promising? I know having folk like Durante on board seemed good. But, I just can't wrap my mind around how you guys would want to post in an environment that was perfectly fine with throwing someone under the bus because of an unproven allegation.

I can only speak from my experience, but GAF was a toxic shithole prior to the split. I had stopped posting a lot because the place was unreadable. ERA promised open discussion so I moved over. I wasn't familiar with a lot of the staff. I didn't think the accusation against Evilore was a big deal, but everyone had moved at that point and the new forum sounded better. I was more upset with Evilore because of what he let the forum become rather then the stupid shower story that wasn't even bad.
It was decent for a very very short period of time on ERA. Everyone was polite and positive. That changed quickly. The user base was made up of all the people that made me hate GAF, so I should have seen that. They encouraged conservative viewpoints, but then they started getting hostile threads (like the one capped showing user PlayAllTheGames a page or so back) after a few weeks. The mods stopped moderating the toxic users like that and encouraged them.
Around the beginning of this year Evilore made his posts about what went on behind the scenes. He sounded like a genuine guy that was going through some bad times and wanted to make this place better again, so I came back here to give it another shot. I stuck around ERA also because the posting volume is there, but ended up requesting a ban a few months ago when they reached peak lunacy and seemed to be ok with violence and witch hunts against conservatives.
I think a lot of people may have a similar story. They still have a fast moving board, so a lot of people probably are there for that and try and ignore the shitty moderation. I know a few conservatives that post there that just avoid Etcera completely and anything political/social that seeps into the gaming side.

I think the majority of users, like me, moved to ERA (and is active there), because whole communities and the users they like to talk to also moved there. Off-topic got nuked, communities, for my example, SteamGAF, moved to Discord. Some people found themselves on GiantBomb, WayPoint and Slaent, but used the forums to get in contact with their GAF communities and other GAF users. Like I found myself on WayPoint, but got helped there to find SteamGAFs and GAFs Discord.
Many of us had nowhere to go, so ERA was our best option to collect all the communities.
Im on ERA for the PC gaming thread, the game OTs, gaming news threads and the general funny/weird/joke threads. Is it toxic? Maybe, but ERA fills the forum needs that GAF gave me.
I need the PC gaming thread for example, but SteamGAF thread here is dead and the users I talked to moved to ERA.
SteamGAF is like Asgard, it's not a place, it's people. If PC gaming ERA moves back here on GAF I will do it too. The people is more important than the place.

There were Jonestownesque amounts of account suicides with even the more reasonable users posting porn and other horrific things. I saw it unfold and i remember being geniunely disappointed that even perfectly reasonable users who literally had nothing to win by throwing trash ended up doing exactly that.
It was like a collective filter was turned off and people enmasse raised the anarchy flag. Not a good look.
That being said the Souls thread is also noteworthy, but not for the moment.

If one perceives a certain user as problematic or having a negative influence on the whole forum, one may be happy about moderation action against them. I mean, it is not that strange, considering Excelsirolef's or especially Brian McDoogle (he has several postings like this, naturally this is the easiest to remember for me) appear to post with the specific wish to get people banned, so at least from them it is safe to assume they enjoy it.
