Speaking to Dan Fogler on the 4D Experience Podcast (audio courtesy of Reddit), actor Norman Reedus said he thinks Death Stranding may be out "early this coming year."

Talking about when the game would be available and whether it's still in development, Reedus responded, "I think it's gonna be early this coming year. I have three more [mo-cap] sessions here in New York starting next week." If by "coming year" Reedus means "2019", then that's going to be a whole lot earlier than any of us imagined.

Speaking more about the kind of game Death Stranding is and about his character Sam, Reedus noted, "It's not the kinda game where you kill everybody in the room. It's a game of bringing people together. How you play it is you're building bridges from here to there, and other people are doing the same, and you connect. And the character that I play is, he's got this phobia of being touched, and as you play the game the phobia leaves you.

"It's complicated but once you're in it, it doesn't seem as complicated. It's constantly surprising you with decisions left and right, and what comes at you, and it's a real brave game. It's visually stunning, and the story behind it, it's a whole 'nother level, ya know. It's not Pac-Man, it's not simple, but the philosophy behind it is one that everybody can get."

That was the date I guessed because middle/late of 2019 is TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima.

These are the lastest releases before PS5.

If true, 2019 is quite stacked already.
Days Gone
Death Stranding
Crash Team Racing (multi but lots of fans on PS)
The Last of Us part 2
Ghost of Tsushima

These are the lastest releases before PS5.
Sony usually releases a platform's last few games with the next generation platform already out...

It goes without saying, BC is very important for a generational transition (first year). If the PS5 is BC with PS4, those last few games also are among the first PS5 games.

Hahahahaha.

No. I'd love to eat my words in the next few months, I hope someone can quote this post at that time, but just because Reedus is done mocapping soon doesn't mean the game is anywhere near finished.

I'll take a wait and see approach with anything to do with this game TBH. One thing that caught my eye was Reedus saying he has 3 more mo-cap sessions left in NY starting this coming week?

Since when has any of Sony's games mo-cap been done in NY? I thought all Sony games mo-cap was all done at VASG and the Reserve (SSM studio) on the West Coast? Could it be filming for marketing stuff or something?

You're right. Post-production takes a good long while.
Besides, if the game was to be ready by then, a trailer showing the release date would have been shown at VGA.

Sony seems to be doing some internal reorganization of their studios (hopefully reassigning people instead of closing more studios). There's a thread about this, but I can't remember the title.

They've been expanding most of their studios but that isn't the intriguing thing for me here. Norman says he's doing mo-cap in NY and unless I missed the memo, Sony don't have game studios/mo-cap facilities in NY?

Yoji Shinkawa's style is very distinctive and it's beautiful as well, there's just something to it.
2 more images in that Tweet link...also early Merry X-Mas GAFfers :)

imagine the PS5 introduction and then Kojima comes out showing a new trailer announcing a PS5 version and "oh by the way the PS4 version is out today" :P

Not too sound like 'No man's sky', but what do you do in this game? It looks like you have to deliver packages and manage the terrain? Almost like orienteering but with other hazards as well? Looks stunning though

I would not be surprised if it shows up next year. From announcement to release MGSV was 3 years and that included 2 releases

I'm still playing MGSV cos it's that good. If this is half as good I will be very happy.

BC is my most wanted Christmas gift for PS5. I want to replay every ps4 catalogue on there.
Hope DS don't launch too close TLOU2.

I think he was talking about the release of the new trailer in a month or so.

It features the protagonist walking down a corridor, and then at the end there's a wall that says "we hope this vague trailer shows you enough to pay $60, thank you"
