Show me your arts, GAF

Everyone's art in here is awesome! I love seeing all the varying styles and mediums. Thanks for sharing, everyone! 💖

I may share some of mine...but I'm extremely self-critical and all I can see when I look at my own art is the flaws. Pretty much how I've always viewed myself as a whole as well...but I'm trying to be better about it and learn to be kinder toward myself.

Try to remember that no good artists think any differently. If they think they are really great they're usually the pretentious twit type of artist. The real ones understand that being an artist at its foundation is being able to be your own critic. That's why we get depressed 😂

It's true that most artists are tortured to one degree or another inside, but I think good art can still be created without unnecessary self abuse. You can never really get rid of the intensity simmering within, but the energy of that intensity can be channeled into the art (whatever it may be) rather than into self-flagellation imo.

Akihiko Yoshida would agree

Hehe, this is so true though. And not really for pervy reasons, but starting from the front is very difficult because I get hung up on the many shapes there. Starting from the back, it's easier to just mold in the curves of the shoulders, back and ass and suddenly have a silhouette that works as a good starting point I can just keep adding to.

I find art mentally exhausting. You need to be excited to make the best piece you can but when complete you need to switch gears and be a harsh critic of the same work you spent hours and hours doing. It is hard to find a middle term between loving what you made and spotting its errors .

But here is a cool graph (made by Shattered-Earth) which helped me to understand the ups and downs of art:

You're absolutely right, but it took me years to understand that 😔. That was beautifully written by the way man 👍

Here are a couple gifs of a simple ocean scene I threw together in Unreal 4 a while back:

It might not be apparent at first, but the submarine is actually textured in object-local screen space, kind of like that one salesman with the loud-ass shirt from the Monkey Island games.

It also connects to an online radio station stream and plays it live with positional audio and stuff- the idea was a weird little 'pirate radio' thing that never really went anywhere and is now immortalized in gif form.

I saw this youtube video today where illustrators and animators had to draw Marvel heroes from memory only... thought I'd give it a try

I need to improve a lot on movement and gesture, my poses are way too stiff

Looks pretty damn good to me. Idd expect that level of art from a Marvel comic

How.

seriously do you have the
Image in your head first and "recreate" what you imagine?

how

That's a good question. It starts off with a general idea (eg: succubus in a grey scale), then there is a brainstorm stage, and it evolves as I go through the production. Though, there are many times I am just not feeling it and try something else. This is one of the cases where I was inspired by the final so much to make more in a series of sins.

Glad you are digging my work. I really appreciate it.

Well, here's some graphic design stuff I did years ago.

(I had so much more but I regrettably deleted them because I thought only my new stuff was worth keeping)

I'll post some new drawings this weekend.

finally one person on my level.

seriously you guys are massively talented. Props to all of you.
love Plague Doctor Plague Doctor and Belmonte Belmonte , are you doing this professionally or is it just a hobby?

Thank you. I work as an art director as my day gig. That's... rather corporate and tame work.

But, I freelance and license my work artwork as well. Worked for some big names in music and movie as well though nothing in gaming.

As you can see I primarily work on lineart, but I've been trying to get back into coloring but it's hard because I'm kinda dumb when it comes to coloring.

I don't really have a set style or way of doing things, and I'm kinda all over the place. I've been kinda irresponsible with my studies, I do gestures and reference study here and there, but I've totally neglected perspective lmao.

I might post some of my older stuff just for comparison.

Try and work more colors into your shadows to make the image look less muddy, otherwise I like it.

I like to work more purples and reds into my shadows.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks man! I did advertising illustration for a time and did some freelancer for apps and little games, nothing major. This year I decided to learn coding to make my own indie game so freelancing is kind of slow. I'm too passionate about videogames to not give game dev a proper try. When I draw, it usually is concept art and animation studies for the game.

I'll just throw my pics from the other thread into this one lol

I doodled in highschool, wasnt great but usually better then 99% of people so of course everyone acted like I was incredibly talented...when all I was is 'meh'

Stopped drawing around 20 years ago then decided to buy an iPad Pro/Pencil and try my hand at digital stuff.
Of course the main thing when it comes to art I slack in...practice/time.

So in close to a year all I've produced is a few drawings/outlines.

Oh yeah, wanted to add one more here. It's where my avatar comes from. This is Elvis, my dog that passed away a few years ago but with a hat and monocle. Fit his character. Need to paint one for my new pup. While I'm here, the second one was a friend's cat. He asked me to paint it for his anniversary. Did a children's book theme with that one.

This would make a pretty cool Air Force embroidery patch with some tightening up. Just right amount of quirky and deadly.

Some form and lighting studies. Still looking to find a good balance of abstraction and realism.
