It would be nice if a million responders noted the game's lack of ambition and specifically compared it (unfavorably) to Zelda Breath of the Wild. With the game clearly selling well, the only thing that would even have a prayer of changing minds at Nintendo is the suggestion that it could be selling even better.

I won't hold my breath though.

I don't think Game Freak lacks ambition, they probably just think they need to introduce big changes in baby steps. I think the Wild Area and free camera control in it was their first attempt and bringing the series to a more seamless and open world setting.

Zelda was able to more easily jump into such radical change because the previous main entry (Skyward Sword) underperformed. Pokémon continues to sell well without changing much, so taking big risks by shaking up the formula radically in one go is not wise from a business perspective, even if they have the creative drive in the series.

It's going to be interesting to see what they have planned for the next generation for sure.

I can see that they lack a financial incentive to shake things up, mechanically. But you can't tell me that the company that starts every game with the same elemental triangle is just chomping at the bit to be creative, but the fanbase is somehow holding them back, (not when that fanbase is so quick to praise and reward any new mechanic in their games).

Gamefreak had no problem axing 40% of the Pokemon population, which is a much bigger shakeup than, say, making the whole game free-roaming or having pokemon visible in the overworld everywhere. And the look of their games is certainly unambitious, to say the least.

They may not be lacking in business sense, but I'm pretty comfortable saying Gamefreak is without ambition when it comes to Pokemon. The only other explanation for their games being as limited and stagnant as they are is technical incompetence. (NOTE: I'm not saying they aren't fun still, just that they don't change much, so there's not a lot of incentive for long time series fans to pick up every entry--been there, done that).

Theres no way one can believe they have the desire to move foward when the brand sell for themselves. We are going to 2020 and they're finally happy to have what? Free camera? "Open world"? Big sized models of pokemons that even Skyrim can do with their npcs?
Meanwhile textures are shit looking, perfomance its crappie, Clefable has 2 move slots of Fire Blast, mouse cursor at the ending screen, etc.

Its fair to remember that they no longer have "hardware limitations" to cover up for their work.

Nintendo does this for every first/second party game you purchase. I’ve done tons of these surveys for different games.

Did you think this was a one off, OP?
Never heard. Sorry. And I even buy some Nintendo games, like all previous Pokemon games beside Ruby/Saphire.

But they do this in USA as well or just UK?

I’m in Australia which is run basically by Nintendo Europe, so maybe they don’t do it in the USA?

I get this info on reddit, but I don't find anyone saying this is a common feedback email. I remember receive one, but not game related, just about the online features, with in Brazil is almost nonexistence.

I’ve kept every single email. I can screenshot a couple if you don’t believe me. I even got sent one after purchasing some third party and indie games.

EDIT: Here you go:

They are all the same generic questions:

- Did you purchase a Switch for this game?
- How old are you?
- How many gamers are in your household?
- Would you recommend this game to a friend?
- What do you like/not like about the game?

They’re just trying to get an idea of the demographics of their audience. When they release statistics about the age and sex of their fanbase, this is how they get that information.

I had to search my inbox for this. The last survey email (which I didn't even remember) was from 2018, and I've been buying plenty of Nintendo games since then.

Perhaps they don't like me...

Perhaps. I get them all the time.

EDIT: They might be getting filtered to your spam box. Happens occassionally. If you ignore certain emails for long enough, that can happen.

Nothing in spam, I checked. No problemos, though. I never use the platinum points anyway.

Yeah, I think their next step is going to be telling of just how much ambition they have. I think I saw an interview somewhere where the director of the game said they wanted to play it traditional/orthodox for the first new generation on Switch, but they also experimented with stuff like the Wild Area, which I imagine is the direction they want to go. I guess we'll see in a couple of years!

Yeah. The My Nintendo redeemable prizes for Australia are mostly shit. My gold coin jar is full and I have nothing to spend it on. It sucks. Just saw that Europe just got glossy posters you can redeem. That’s not fair, lol.

It's full? They why not get yourself some great new Switch games? Or at least a pair of vouchers?

The gold coins on My Nintendo aren’t redeemable for games. Unless you mean the 20-50% off vouchers for 3DS and Wii U games. If you do, there’s nothing there I want at the moment.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about the gold points you get on your Switch eShop account when you purchase a digital game on the Switch. I wish that was full, lol.

OP froths at the mouth to post anything to get people riled up about Sword and Shield :)

Lol, dunno about that.

I don’t even play Pokemon, but this particular email is a common thing. Nothing to see here.

If people are really posting shit like this on Reddit as some conspiracy as to Pokemon doing badly, then shit is getting fuckin’ weird.

Why do so many people get salty and butthurt by Nintendo’s success? It’s bloody creepy as fuck.

Just grow up, enjoy life and have fun ffs.

There are other Gold coins/points? I only see the ones you can use on the Switch eShop.

Lol. You know what? You got me curious, so I got out my Switch and started looking and it looks like my gold points on My Nintendo and on Switch eShop match up. I never realised. I swear at the start I couldn’t use my My Nintendo gold on Switch, I could only use gold from actual Switch digital purchases, not physical too. Must have changed at some point. Awesome.
