I agree with the decision. It’s one thing if he just asked for a ban and left, but those were some pretty shitty comments to write on the way out the door, not just about Evilore but actually everybody who decided to stay here.

What was the meltdown and what happened anyway? I was seemingly banned from this place before it happened but I see it referenced all the time. A google search brings up the typical one sided reddit/twitter nonsense, is there something that explains it with less bias?

Engaging just gives them the attention they crave. People don’t care if it happened years ago, it’s a weapon crazies use and engaging with them is exactly what they want. It doesn’t matter if there’s evidence that proves otherwise, if there’s even an allegation or anything (even if it’s fake) the internet of 2020 will latch onto that and broadcast it as their weapon.

Evilore was accused of sexually harassing a woman. A lot of people went batshit insane and started spamming NeoGaf with inappropriate content (ie porn). Then the majority of the users fucked off to resetera. Then NeoGaf became a ghost town. That's a brief summary.
It's not fair what happened to Evilore, but this forum has become a much better place since then.

I'm someone who jumped to Reeee back in 2017, but returned about a year later, when I started to realize how poisonous SJW/PC stuff had become, and how infected that forum was with it. So I'd hate to stigmatize people who are coming from Reeee, just because that's where they came from. I think a lot of the increase in GAF membership over the past year has been people getting sick of Reeee and returning here. I don't have any history of misbehavior on GAF and was never banned or perma-banned.
So I'm just making sure we're talking about a small subset of people who have a previous history of shitty behavior on GAF, not just anyone who's leaving Reeee and coming here.

Personally I think this whole thing (creation of RE) was premeditated. If it wasn’t this event it would have been something else manufactured to get them what they wanted - access to GAF’s enormous revenue stream.
It’s hard to get closure when the other forum is still thriving with as many members as they have considering their gains were ill-gotten in the first place. In my mind we’ll have true closure when we stop having to talk about them here - maybe when we can close the RE thread in Communities because it’s no longer needed.

I left this place as well after a while, since this felt almost abandoned. And after a month of lurking at REE I got an account over there.

on this one. The past two years are a record of how these Reeefugees behave after returning to GAF. The forum sometimes welcomes (just check the "Introduce yourself" thread) and sometimes heckles (like in the case of legacyzero). This depends on who was returning and depending on their attitude. There's nothing unreasonable about weeding out bad members through heckling. There's also the long list of examples of returning users who played nice for a bit but then starting going off the rails. We even have a few examples of returning users making a beeline to the ERA thread and insulting everyone to flame out. And then there's that one precious alt-user who kept coming in and declaring "Be warned, Alt-Right GAF! We are infiltrating you and will destroy you from within" or something hilarious like that.I'm open-armed to anyone who returns or signs up to GAF. Some people seem hell-bent at burning up all their goodwill as quickly as possible, though, and I don't see why the community should tolerate a dull roar of screeching Reeeturnees that contribute nothing of value.

A lot of men have been alleged for a lot of shit during the metoo mass psychosis. In Sweden, the media went crazy and blindly believed everything every woman said. And later, it was revealed that quite a few stories were made up in order to attack a man in a powerful position or as revenge. One man even took his life because of allegations which weren't even true.
I believe something when I see proof, not just empty words.

Yeah, I never asked for an account suicide, either. I didn't share in the hysteria or outrage. I just figured, "Well, everyone is moving over there, so I guess I will, too." GAF had a history of being authoritarian in its moderation policies, and I figured it would be better over at Reee. Ha ha, yes I know. It took me a while before I figured out that the problem had just been transplanted, and somehow the transplant made things worse. It also took me a while before I saw the #metoo hysteria for what it was, and I realized in retrospect that Evilore was just another victim of it.
I actually ended up getting banned for two weeks at Reee because of "misogynistic commentary." I think I should get bonus points for that.

It's Sweden, they're sick but no one listens. Like if resetera was its own country instead of forum. Always got to go extreme in every trend (refugee crisis, metoo, climate change/Greta...) A common question people ask that's not from here: "Is there a mental hospital nearby or something?" Make of that what you will, as it can be percieved in several ways.

What is happening these days is that peoples' tribunals are becoming more and more popular. Something spreads in social media, and when it has spread enough, people start to believe on the sole reason that so many others believe it. The very definition of mass psychosis. Metoo is a good example, the environment hystieria is another. That doesn't mean metoo or care about the environment is all bad, but the way these phenomenoms have played out are a disaster.
Metoo started out good, but quickly went down the drain with all the decade old and loose allegations and lies. The Greta hysteria is beyond ridicolous as this point, as no media is asking her though questions (why does she defend the Paris climate accord when it specifically says that China can do whatever it wants until 2030?).
In the end, people who are independent thinkers will come out on top. Greta is going to crash hard sooner or later, and I'm actually worried what it will do to her in the future. There are lots of people behind her that you never see who pull the strings.
Sweden mostly suffers from being full of cowards. No one dares to speak up, everyone is super afraid of confrontation, plus we have lived in a society where the government have had a lot of control over people's lives. Combine that with Swedes being the most secularized people in the world. A lot of liberal Swedes in Stockholm don't even see Sweden as its own country. Rather, they see it as an international hub where anyone can come. But even in Sweden, things are changing away from left wing liberalism. People outside of Stockholm are getting tired of all immigrant gangs raping, killing, shooting and bombing.
There are so many wrong things with Sweden it's impossible to cover everything in one post. But to sum it up with short words:
- Swedes are extreme cowards
- immigrants from arab countries are very dominant and far from cowards
- the police refuse to use violence to solve heavy crime, instead referring to inviting criminals leaders for pizza (no joke, it literally happened)
- there's a strong belief among left wing liberals that violence doesn't solve anything, and that dialogue must always be used (even when it hasn't worked for ten years)
- immigrants from arab countries have little to no respect for authorities, because they come from a clan culture where you solve all problems within the family
- Stockholm people have zero understanding how the rest of Sweden works
- immigrants who do behave (get a job, pay taxes, don't commit crime) are sent back to their home countries because of some small bullshit thing in the rules
- immigrants who hide from police or misbehave are rewarded with more resources
- same goes in school: bad kids are rewarded with more care and resources, good kids are not
- Sweden took in 1 million immigrants between 2010 and 2020. Our total population is now 10 million.
I could go on forever.
Tldr; Sweden deserves the situation we have now, but change is on the way.
