Happy New Years GAF

I'm excited for this year

Hope y'all have a good and healthy 2020!

As for celebrating New Years day, ours was suddenly interrupted when a fire broke out at my mum's neighbor's home. Here in The Netherlands people can use personal fireworks, and the street where my mum lives was like a freaking warzone during the evening, with a large group of youngsters crowding at the opposite apartment building. Then, after some extraordinary heavy fireworks were launched, I smelled burning plastic, and not long after that blue lights of the police. Turned out that the neighbor below, who wasn't home, had his (plastic) chairs and window frame melting because of the fireworks, to the point that the glass had a big hole in it. We had to leave my mum's place and the entire neighborhood was watching the police, firemen and woman doing their thing. Hope my mum's neighbor will take sufficient action that this won't ever happen again. What a bunch of a-social idiots.
Wasn't there a case of youngsters setting fireworks off inside an apartment complex and a father & son cooked to death in an elevator over there?

Heard it. Absolutely horrifying. The number of cases of people who got their eyes damaged because of fireworks was also twice as much this year the news reported.

It sounds like the Dutch live out The Purge during New Years.

It does feel that way, and I think (and a lot of people) that things are way too lax. But it wasn't always so; since the last couple of years years things have gone out of control, and the government wants to make the selling of certain types of fireworks illegal. I don't know how much of a effect that will cause, because super heavy fireworks can be obtained in other countries, like Belgium or Poland.
