I did my part... I got a 2 week ban from the purple cult at the end of last November. A couple of days into my ban I came back here. That's when I realised how free I felt here. Back there, slowly I had been conditioned into not speaking my mind for the fear of the judgement and verbal abuse that could likely follow. It really was like leaving a cult. By the end of the ban period I had already decided I wouldn't return there and logged in to request for a permanent ban only to find out that I had been permed anyway. The click on the logout button on my way out was the last click I send their way.
Same man. Althought I actually got a perma ban for saying that PewDiePie isn't a white supremacist, just an edgelord (and I say that as a longtime viewer) sometimes. I was having a civil, lengthy discussion with one of the members, too. Boom, ban out of nowhere.

Added to the fact that I don't feel welcome in my local game dev circles because they are too much into circlejerking and I don't agree with the favoritism they display, I had nowhere to go to express my views on gaming, game dev and some more personal opinions aside from a couple friends.
It's a breath of fresh air. Although I have to say for the short amount of time I DID get banned on here I was feeling thrown back into the pit. However, since I got unbanned it felt better than ever though because both EviLore and me took responsibility. He unbanned me and I apologized. :) Like civil people! Can you imagine?

You really benefit from an absence of lefties. You guys get so egotistical with your words that's it's no surprise that you have to exist in a beehive to have them.

No, and what a ridiculous statement. There really aren't any lefties as you call it that can form cohesive arguments I've encountered yet. Lots of unbridled feelings though.

It's my go to when it's 2:40AM and I can't sleep. Also I appreciate the mod team and community a whole lot.

(also working graves gives me plenty of GAF time hue hue)

It's great to see GAF rebounding like this. It was sad to see it suffer a near-fatal blow at the hands of the SWJ outrage mob. I was impressed by Evilore taking his share of the responsibility, and I'm glad all of that is behind us now.

I'm very impressed at the changes, too -- the new moderation policies, the ability to speak freely, reaction and notification systems, splitting off politics, etc. I also really enjoy the positive atmosphere, which is palpable. People enjoy being part of GAF. It's fun, like a videogame forum should be. I hope we can retain that sense of cameraderie, freedom, and happiness as the forum continues to grow.

Big thanks to the people who hung in there during the tough periods. And plenty of credit goes to the people behind the scenes and in the forums who helped it rebound and mend. GAF didn't just survive a near-fatal blow. It is now thriving. Nice work.

People like being able to say what they want while being decent. That's what's great about GAF now.

Objectively, regardless of one's race, age or political views, it is more pleasant to post on a forum without nazi style POV pushing moderator team.
"But no content/slow pace" is another valid metric, but post-showergate gaf has clearly passed that point.

Because they are all coming back here with new accounts. Even a blind person can spot them
There is nothing wrong with that.
I, for one, would welcome all.
If they can learn "living" alongside people who do not share their views, that's all one could ask.

I am actually surprised posts was above post reactions for a while.

I appreciate the ability to 'react' to a post, especially in the case where I'd normally just say "I agree" or "Yeah man". It cleans up a lot of the... filler? posts.

Good job on righting the ship and steaming forward. Looking forward to seeing the site continue to grow and evolve.
I sometimes post on... ahem... Resetera... And it feels so empty and passive without reactions. I'm never going back, the past is in the past.

Happy to be here. I wish I would have been an active poster years ago when I was just a lurker. Glad to see the site on the way back up. It turns out having a forum where actual discussion is allowed is a good idea.

Thing is you can have arguments here, I noticed bunch of SJWs lately, which is fine, then I'll argue with them ........just don't ban people just because they have different opinion, (like what those retards are doing)

even little insults here and there is OK, in my opinion

as long as you don't threaten people or downright abusive

Both sides need to remember that though. There are a fair number of, I dunno, anti-sjw people, who I tend to agree with, but can be borderline abusive with their words and deeds.

I think the community is at its best where there is a strong ethos of civility running through it.

abusive?? really? where??..... problem is that I find SJWs tend to be hyper-sensitive, where us, conservatives, we can take verbal abuse and still think its just merely arguments

My first year here. I was ready to quit gaming forums for many reasons (some life changes, hyper policing forums, generally more toxic environment, old forum friends leaving, etc.), but GAF keeps me coming back.

It's got a nice atmosphere, active and growing community, and fair moderation system. Whatever the previous drama/baggage was (I don't know the whole story), GAF definitely deserves its recent success.

Hey EviLore EviLore can you track by user nationality?

By the end of 2018, Brazil's biggest gaming forum came to an end.

People migrated to other forums, including international ones, but it wasn't the same.

Ironacally, NeoGaf, post purge, was the closest to what we had.

I'm aware of some fellow brazilians that post on Gaf but I wonder if there was any significant increase in brazilian users/numbers at the time.

Thanks!

This is also my first year here. Been less than a year, actually. I had like over 7,000 posts on IGN, but I hated that place. NeoGAF feels like home, and I hope I can stay for a long time to come. I really like it here. You guys rock my socks. :messenger_kissing_smiling:

This is the first place I've joined since the old Bungie.net forums. Really glad this place exists. The community is great.

Things have definitely improved from when I first came back and there was 60 people on at peak time. Good to see the steady and healthy growth again through the last two years.

I'm happy for it. Tbh aways wanted to join long time ago, but my brother said it wasn't the best time to join.

Not sure I do anything worth to increase the amount of activity(for starters I don't start threads, something I don't like to do since I started with forums), but I participate whenever I can.

3% Brazil in 2017, 2% currently.

Absolutely this. At least once a day I delete a post before publishing because I don't want to speak my mind. If I go over there, its for the gaming side...and even then....its often ridiculous.

Its only when I am talking about mechanics of games strictly do I post at all. Anything else, boom....ban. Its a horrible atompshere.

Here...man, here is where you can talk about stuff. Real, big, small, difficult, you can say your peace. You may be challenged, but you wont be banned for responding back to defend yourself.

Yeah, they like to spread their crap all over the place.

That dog is trying to drain his ass glands.

to make the metaphor really work, the dog would need to have chosen to clog his ass glands up, resisted every natural and logical impulse to clear his ass glands previously, and teamed up with a lot of fellow dogs with clogged ass glands to complain about how the situation of dogs with clogged ass glands needs to be improved, while condemning all clear assed dogs as racist.

Wish yall the best of luck and hopefully you will branch out and not simply be the "anti Era" site
This is some unfair, and quite frankly bullshit hand waving of the effort people on here have put in into making GAF a better place than they found it.

It's an insult to both the staff as well as the community, so I don't ever want to see you crying about being piled on or called out on your bullshit after posting stupid ass shit like this.

He's very protective of his only social life that is era. Of course his autism kicks in when he sees anyone bad mouthing the shithole so called his "only social life"

Good for the owner/staff I guess, those self-appointed "insiders" are sure doing the work ;) But I have a really mixed feeling if all those kids migrating from RE is actually a good thing... I mean, that last big spike is exactly when I started extensively using the Ignore button, and I know there is no such thing as coincidence.
