Is True Lies a great under-appreciated classic?

I feel like it's one of the funniest movies ever made, and people don't even realize it. Yeah I know it's an action flick but looking back now I barely care about the dumb action scenes, it's more of the humor that I remember and it seems like the entire movie is full of classic one liners and funny moments.

One of the best/most entertaining action flicks ever. Extremely rewatchable.

I think it's pretty highly regarded

One of my fav movies of all time.... well, at least for action movies.

Total Recall, True Lies, Predator, Terminator 2................ and Jingle all the Way. My fav Arnie movies.

Next is Eraser, Running Man, Commando, Raw Deal.

The remaining movies don't remember or care about. Never saw Heat some reason. I don't think I laughed once in Twins.

(I think the limo was supposed to hit the concrete slab)

Still shocked it never got a sequel, shit if it had come out in the past couple of years we would probably already be on True Lies 3.

True lies is great classic by the combo James Cameron+Arnold Schwazenegger, but Cameron is stalling the release of the 4K Blu-Ray.
He's forever citing as reason that he's too preoccupied with other projects and of course his Avatar sequels, to approve the 4K scans that they did for True Lies and The Abyss...

Not even a standard BD existing for both of these is bizarre to me.

Even stranger is the only way to currently watch this in HD is through an obscure VHS format:

I love the villain in that film. He is often treated like a racist caricature, but his motivation is real. Here he is spitting fire:

[his message to the United States while being video taped] You have murdered our women, and our children, and bombed our cities from afar, like cowards, and you dare to call "us" terrorists?

To create a serious character who is taken seriously by no one... this is something few writers can do.

It's a great movie for sure. Though personally I never understood how anyone could find Jamie Lee Curtis sexually attractive.

The remasters are streaming on HBO right now in HD.

You don't remember or care about the Conan movies?? Or the original Terminator?
Last Action Hero?

Me is disappoint.

I was never a fan of true lies. It's worth a watch but is nowhere near the sheer excellence that is Commando.

Commando
Predator
Running man

they're the top 3 action films from Arnie, with Total recall coming 4th.

I watched a couple of years ago. I found that it holds up well enough. It is a Cameron film after all, how bad could it be?

Not at all under-appreciated. Loads of people love it, myself included! I remember laughing my ass off in the cinema.

I was really into this movie as a kid. Looking back on it haha it's amazing Tom Arnold is in this and he works so well.

great Arnold movie w some great lines. Kid me preferred Tia Carrera who I knew from Wayne's World.

seriously I think this was the first time I was ever turned on as a kid. Such an interesting theater trip that was...

We watched this film, in my grade 11 English class - during this scene, an awkward hush, filled the classroom, with only the uncomfortable squeak and groan of desk chairs, breaking the silence.

The film is underrated, only in the sense, that there's no blu Ray, and the studio doesn't promote the film very much - probably because of 9/11. If 9/11 didn't happen, this film would have much more exposure than it currently does.

Under appreciated? It was a james cameron movie with Arnold, it was huge.

Just slightly forgotten maybe because cameron hasn't given it any real blu ray or 4k love. It just sits there.
