PS5 reveal tomorrow

Welp thats that. Can we ban the all the bs "insiders" who were way off the mark?

Ps5 will still be preordered at least to guarantee one at launch. Will wait to see launch games for it. Otherwise I'd rather wait on the "pro".

The tech demo is a decade old game: Dead Space. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

This is a disastrously bad reveal that's failed to generate any excitement, and postures Sony as massively out of touch with what people give a shit about. This should've stayed on the cutting room floor. I'm here to find out what's exciting about PS5, not to be in a fucking engineering lecture in a junior college.

It was literally their GDC presentation, that's been known since they teased it. It's also exactly what they said it would be.

I told y'all it wasn't a proper reveal event. lol

Let's admit that Xbox SX is BIG, but let's wait to see how games react. 5.5GB/s on the other hand compared to 2.4GB/s is huge. Are they planning for a betterfly for PS5 Pro? Let's wait and see.

That presentation was awesome. As a computer science and math guy, I wish that I could take a course on game console architecture from Professor Mark Cerny.

Seems like they prioritized speed over power, which I think will turn out in the end. If the "SSD dream" he discussed turns out at launch the system will feel amazing to use. Hoping for a buttery smooth OS. 3D Audio sounds incredible.

Also, he is right that the number of TFs doesn't tell the whole story. It is a basic fact in the history of the design of computer systems that there is more than one way to succeed, and that having more raw power doesn't necessarily results in a better user experience (this is a common pillar of the Mac vs. PC argument - it is quite easy to argue that a "weaker" Mac will run a smoother, stable OS than a more powerful PC). Teraflops are a buzzword that Microsoft popularized for their benefit; no one gave a shit about that metric until recently. I do think it's a good marketing trick, but it's obvious that it isn't the be-all end-all.

Disappointed at no PS1-3 BC.

dont forget: no full PS4 BC. case-by-case basis.

Now this explains why MS is going for Lockhart, the price gap must be at least $100 between the too. As much as most hardcore gamers would love more power, casuals won't see $400 vs $500 easily.

I like Mark Cerny. I like to hear him speak. Maybe I'm just a technologically illiterate troglodyte, but the key takeaways I got from that presentation is that backwards compatibility might not work for every game, that you need to go through a rigorous buying process to get a SSD that won't break the games and that he wants me to send pictures of my ears.

That being said, I'm not dissatisfied though because it's so awesome to hear this man speak. I'm still not sold on the hardware and Jason Schreier is a CUCK.

You can rationalize and blindly defend all you'd like, but this was dry and untimely. They could've released this quietly in addition to something that would satiate an excitement starved audience -- it's a huge misfire from corporate and serves to illustrate the upheaval occurring in SIE management.

I'm not alone in this sentiment, market analysts are a little confused as well. Was this the right move for Sony right now? Unlikely. Will they recover? Well yes, and I'm sure the PS5 will be great. But this was a mistake, point blank.

CHOO CHOO! Thanks to everyone who participated in the HYPETRAIN. We are officially SOLD OUT!

Grab those snacks, run the bath, and enjoy the show. It's gonna be a wild ride.

Driver: Mark Cerny
Passengers: 250

Mood: Absolutely Bonkers

so.. what happened to this train?

I don't have to rationalize something that was exactly what they said it was, fam. If you had expectations beyond this being a deep dive into the tech, which it was, then that's on you.

They also released the full spec sheet so there you go.

Here is how it compares:

GPU
XSX > PS5 (14.8%)
SSD
PS5 > XSX (56.4%)

Multiplats should look identical overall, and XSX has no exclusive for 2 years. Seems like a muddy situation here.

I'm hype af after that. They're innovating like crazy with this gen.
Same, because it's PlayStation. I have to say though, that Sony's marketing and communications are SHIT at the moment.

People get so touchy when having any opinion either way about both consoles, but one thing is for sure... MS marketing is on another level. Even for their PCs like surface, studio etc...

He was too technical to my understanding but seems like faster clock speeds have their benefits? We need to games head to head to see what's going on.

After such a long silence, this was an extremely bizarre way to discuss the PS5. I have no idea why they did it this way and I don't think it's going to do them any favors.

Did I say something wrong though? Point it out.
I think you're the one that should elaborate when you STATE that multiplats will look identical given the disparity in power and also of focus between the 2 architectures. If 36 CUs outwork 56 CUs the multiplat developer should fired, regardless of the respective clockings.

Will not outwork, but expect like 60fps on PS5 and 90+fps on XSX. Something like that.

FPS has nothing to do with the number of CUs in a GPU. Biggest factor for high fps is the CPU

You're serious? GPU is the MAIN part for graphics + FPS. And both CPU's are similar overall with minor difference. GPU wise it's 14.8%.

GPU raw force goes to XSX, but let's see how it translates later on.
