Will humans evolve further into something else in the future?

Fingerlickin' Good!
Like if global warming continues will we develop rock hard skin or something? I don't understand evolution at all

I'm taking this joke first

As a species we are too globally connected for natural selection to have any large factor in what traits are passed on in an environment. Add to the fact that traits which would not benefit in a given environment would persist and be passed on due to medical advancements and quality of life. IE in an environment where a short person would not benefit over a tall person, the short person will still pass on his genes. Few generations of people remain in one given environment anymore anyway...and by generations i mean hundreds of thousands of years worth.

Now if we start a colony on Mars then have a nukefest here on earth...back to the stone age..by the time we get back to Mars.....we may meet a new species.

We will be the species that is able to control its next steps in evolution..through genetics and augmentation...which i suppose is just as natural since our intelligence is natural..

Evolution from humans to something beyond humans will likely never happen. That will take millions of years likely.

But changes like avg height and body types changing will continue to happen.

I think humanity as at the endgame as far as evolution goes, something major would have to happen for us to adapt and evolve massively.

I'm very tired, I'm chemically addicted to a medicine I don't have and now I can't sleep worth a fuck.

This is actually really quite a fascinating subject.

We are actually far more adaptive and variable than other great apes, which is of course why you see so many differences in appearence between us worldwide, despite our still being the same species.

It was believed that the increase in migration and international travel we've seen over the last century or two would counteract this, and that we'd start to homogenize into a single race, where as actually the opposite is happening.

As we have developed better technology, medicine and living conditions, differences between groups have been increasing, not going away. Infact there even seems to be ever more branching off of groups even within countries, with different social stratas developing ever widening genetic idiosyncrasies between one another.

The reasons for this seem to primarily be due to in group preferences and decrease in infant mortality rates. Everywhere on Earth people are having children that live in far greater numbers than in previous centuries, and that means almost every random mutation any child has ends up getting passed on to the next generation and spreads throighout the whole community.

However with the exception of western far leftists people overwhelming prefer the familiar to the foreign, so even in multicultural environments, these mutations rarely if ever get transfered to other groups.

In particularly insular communities with more lax attitudes towards incest, this is causing quite severe issues with genetic maladies as unhealthy mutations and recessive genes become compounded and endemic to the population, such as has become apparent amongst British Pakistani Muslims.

What's more, class seems to be having the same genetic branching occur, with the dumber, poorer and uglier members of any culture being seperated from the prettier and more intelligent/succesful members as they refuse to interact with one another, something that's only been exacerbated in recent decades by the increasing gulf between politcal stances we've witnessing in recent decades.

So yes, give us a few centuries to millenia and we'll not just have evolved into something else, but we'll turn into many different something else's.

If we don't destroy ourselves in the next few hundred years, and if Elon Moosk has his way, we'll be merging with machines, modifying ourselves and basically guiding our own artificial evolution, branching off into weird new artificial species. Some people would be specialized for long-term space travel or for living in space, on low-gravity space stations. Others will be specialized to be able to breathe on Mars, and survive its temperatures. Others will live on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Here on Earth, others might be specialized to survive climate change, or to be immune to epidemics. Everyone would be hyper-intelligent: able think, store info, and recall it much faster than we can back here in 2020.

There will probably be holdouts on Earth--naturals. I don't know what directions they'd go into, in terms of natural selection. There'd be lots of competition from the artificials. The artificials might build habitats to protect and preserve the naturals, a combination of zoos and museums.

This is all assuming we merge with the machines, instead of being annihilated by them. And assuming technological development continues at a rapid pace, instead of stagnating because of pandemics and whatnot.

Probably not since we adopt the environment to us instead of the other way around. Evolution is mostly based on the changes in the environment.

I don't mean to sound like an eco nut job, but I don't think humanity has many decades of relative "peace" left, especially with the climate changes progressing very fast. Raising temperatures, draughts, severe weather changes destroying crops and causing various natural disasters, resources being slowly depleted, further spikes of cancer numbers from smog and unhealthy food - all of this will make leading healthy and safe lives much harder.

Of course I'm not denying that huge leaps in medicine in technology are being made and they will continue to do so, but most of them will probably be reserved for millionaires. I mean even now many people can't get proper medical treatment because either them or the country they're living in can't afford to offer them good healthcare plans.

just admit it, you want a third arm to stimulate your dick and prostate at the same time, didn't you?

we are far from that yet, a couple of centuries minimum to grow another arm.

We are already evolving. There are already noticeable differences between people today versus people 100 and 200 years ago.

Now if we turn into a different species? That too will happen. I dunno of we will ever stop calling ourselves human. But i think thats for social reasons

Years ago I said something to my best friend about evolution and he looked at me like I was the biggest dumbass ever.

My thought was: if heart disease is number one killer of people, eventually will we eve one to where the human body naturally eliminates artery plaque and whatnot?

Well, evolution is a constant process, so if we don't go extinct, environmental conditions will demand it sooner or later - if we're talking about massive change.

I just want to be like JC Denton before nature undoes us. :P

still a sh!t ton of potential left in our species. we haven't reached our final most powerful form yet more time and effort needs to be focused on health and nutrition & how to cook proper meals & energy/time management in school. how to turn it on and how to turn if off & allow the body to rebuild/repair itself. lotta untapped potential for people living in areas with not great weather. lotta untapped potential in poorer areas of the world. lot of untapped potential in areas of the world that has no plant/animal life. we just need to move the proper nutrients to those areas and water and nurture them until they are able to sustain themselves. hopefully we'll eventually reach that elf level status someday and morph whole worlds that will be able to sustain life but as of right now people are continuously deprived of the necessary nutrients to be content and this causes a lot of fighting & bullsh!tting which is holding our species back

Yes, and it's happening a lot sooner than you would think.

Research transhumanism.

There's a chance people will evolve into something else a lot of people think people will evolve into one of the "Greys"

When the aliens finally show up and we start to exchange bodily fluids with them, that's when we'll evolve, imo.

I keep hoping the ugly gene people will stop being able to find mates and remove their hideous gene pools from the world, but alas for some reason people keep having pitty sex with them.

Here is what many experts believe humans will look like in future.
