Just like Era most of neogaf is just fine actually. The problems however are centered mainly around the politics section here and the Etc section there. The bias and the favoritism that is shown around certain posters here is no different in my eyes than the same thing that happens over at Era. Certain members are allowed to bend and stretch rules to the breaking point and even beyond with little to no punishment despite the rules that are posted. Insults, dogpiling, racism, bigotry, harassment, and people taking an argument from one thread and continuing it in another thread despite a change in topic. I can't even count how many times I have been called a cunt, retard, disingenuous piece of shit etc etc these past few months . And as far as I know not a single person has been even warned for it. All of these things as I understand it are against the rules of Gaf and on Era as well and yet it happens all the time in both places. And neither place really does much about it. If it gets REALLY out of hand you might have a mod come in and tell people to get back on topic or stop insulting people or maybe even you will pop in and tell certain people to stop derailing threads or whatnot, but that's about it. The rules for better or worse are adjustable it seems rather than concrete. It just depends on who is doing the breaking. Once again I reiterate that this is mainly in the politics section here. I have not really seen this type of behavior or favoritism extended to the gaming section, community section, or off topic. Though to be fair I don't frequent those as much here as I do on Era.
I raised my concerns about this issue about the rules being applied evenly quite awhile ago. So this really isn't anything new from me though.

ResetEra moderation is Stalinism in action. While not perfect, NeoGAF is light-years ahead in that regard and therefore, all in all, superior. Ultimately, ResetEra is their forum. They get to write the rulebook.
But with regard to content, I'd say ResetEra seems to be more up-to-date. They seem to have enlisted more vetted industry professionals, though one could argue that's a mixed bag. Gaming news also tend to pop-up sooner there and be more specialized, more widely discussed.
I can only hope that will eventually change.

Posting from my phone at the moment so I'm having trouble tracking down all the examples I had in mind, but here are a few.
I know damn well if I went into a thread calling other members "punk ass bitches" "cunts", or "pieces of shit" that I would at the very least catch a warning for it. But that's the kind of bias I'm talking about.
Because it's me and people don't like me it's considered okay apparently to break the rules. But just so long as it's directed at me. And that is fair no matter how you look at it. The rules should be enforced evenly regardless of who is doing the talking. And that's is where Gaf and Era trip themselves up in my opinion. That's what I mean by both having a plethora of issues.

You're just talking about human nature. There will always be a degree of favoritism from one party (who may be in a position of some (lol) authority) to another with whom they may have bias or ties of some sort.
Humans have never escaped such issues in any venue, and we likely never will. Expecting the "rules" to be applied evenly across the spectrum is only setting yourself up for frustration, disappointment and disenchantment.
Better to make your peace with human flaws, because you won't escape them wherever you go in life. We're not perfect, so you have to make some allowances for humans to be human while still functioning in life. Don't let others get you down my brother, is what I'm trying to say.

The content of my character has nothing to do with the rules of the forum. The same goes for anyone else. Even if I believe someone is acting like a "bitch" or a "cunt" it is still against the rules to voice that opinion. And if I did I deserve to be reported and actioned on for it regardless of who I said it to or what caused me to say it.
That's exactly what I mean about the rules being adjustable rather than concrete on here and Era. Instead of just applying the rules against insults mods seem to take into account who made the insult and who it was made against. And that's not how it should work.

Go into any era thread and mention to them you post on GAF regularly and they will rip you apart, and will try to look for ways to ban you. The difference is we know you post there here and sure we five you shit about you and harass you but mostly it's for shits and giggles. That's the difference between the two sites.
