Permanent bans for spoiling games outside of designated threads with 'leaks'

A post that literally says "spoilers" means you have an option read it or dont. Thats not too difficult to understand. IF the site plans to perm. ban such post that is censorship IMO. A choice to either read or dont read is basic choice. Thats all it is a simple post, but to I guess to the weak they need big brother to tell them what is acceptable.

So I'm inferring that you think we should have voted as a community as to whether or not inappropriate spoilers are bannable offenses? If so, I'm not sure that's realistic.

Sometimes seeing thumbnails from YouTube clips would ruin an entire boss fight. I'm glad it's being taken seriously. I want to visit OT's 2-3 days after launch and not see what's 10-15 hours ahead. I enjoy talking about it and reading everyone's thoughts. I'm just worried that the climax to the game is sitting there right in front of my face when I click the OT. It's made me not visit some OT's until after I finished the game.

Back on N4G we voted to not allow anonymous sources.

But when it comes to spoilers? I don't think people should be allowed post them wherever they want. The reason why it's an automatic perm is to make people think twice before posting them. Granted it doesn't stop people from posting spoilers but it does stop some people who care about being in this place from posting them.

Anyway the current policy is fine. People who want spoilers can always get them in the spoiler thread. It's not like they are banned on this site they are just limited to where they can be posted.

Did you read the original note? You are allowed to post about spoilers in the relevant threads. I've been discussing TLOU2 spoilers all day today. The mods are trying to keep assholes from dropping spoilers in threads that have nothing to do with said game just to be a dick. People who don't want to read spoilers can avoid those threads, like you said, but they shouldn't have to worry about a random spoiler dropped in a thread that's not even about the game in question.

I see you have already departed, whilst comparing us to Nazi's and also calling the userbase '16-40 old virgins' (deleted) while having numerous unexpired warnings. The request is quite simple. It's not fair for people discussing TLoU release date to see a post along the lines of:


"It won't matter anyway when everyone knows ",
leak spoiler
because no one will buy it, lulz


and accidentally click it, or a browser refresh issue causes it to be displayed inline Nikana Nikana if you have anything to share/query you can post in the meta thread and tag a few of us if you wish. If there are points of contention we can always elaborate on them or at least make some of the wrap around processes a bit more visible.

TLOU2 leaks hit the Internet. Some people directly posted or "jokingly" posted some of the major details in random threads having nothing to do TLOU2 at all, let alone designated TLOU2 spoiler threads.

lot of people got spoiler ambushed (including myself)

bans page has more details

Sorry to hear that. This is why I am not even entering any thread even remotely linked to TLOU2.
 
I wish Youtube can take this kind of stance.

Any users posting spoiler videos before official release date needs to be permanently banned from the platform.

I support this. Plenty of folks believe inferring to plot elements in non-spoiler thread is fine so long as it isn't specific.

I honestly don't need to know about the presence of any "twists" or allegorical comparisons between the plot of a game and another story.

It's like the plot of Half-Life 3. Fresh unspoiled territory where anything could happen.

However if anybody infers it's like Hamlet or has a major, controversial plot twist early on, then sets a bias to the enjoyment of the story even if the element is not specifically disclosed.

It's not much of a sacrifice for people to wait a couple months more before discussing the story. It's been years in the waiting.
 
Just had a major plot point formTLOU 2 spoiled by some douche who made a thread just now. Had a feeling certain things in the game would happen but Id rather have found out on my own. I wish people would just grow up and stop trying to ruin other peoples pleasures in life. Doesnt ruin the game for me but now I know for certain what happens and it sort of takes away from the moment. Get some maturity people.

I fear it's just tip of the iceberg with this kinda thing over the next 6 weeks or so.

If someone gets ambushed by this kinda thing, don't ask if it's real or not. At least leave yourself the possibility of believing it could or couldn't be legit. At least that works for me, but maybe that's just a me thing.

I apologise for my last few posts. I really was looking forward to not getting the game spoiled for me by avoiding anything Last of Us 2 related on youtube and the spoiler thread on this forum.

When i saw that post by that user i just saw red and was fuming. I'm sorry for the harshness.

This is why I hate when games leak TOO early. Like a week or so sure but the game is still a Month and a half away and we are in a pandemic with nothing to do so sure ill be browsing on gaf. Its a shame i found out, had a feeling something was going to happen but I didnt wana know certain details that pertain to it

I know guys who take pleasure in the idea that they're inflicting a "not serious" form of harm on others, like spoiling a game. I relate to them. It's just a different form of being numb.
