People preordering games not getting the news about the leak en mass is not how I imagine things work.
As for the data in OP, there is exactly zero clarity on what is going on, if at all.
Some people canceling pre-order is a given, the question is, how many.

Not surprising at all tbh, TLOU2 is by far the most anticipated PS4 game of the gen and will going to be an amazing polished and fun experience, regardless of its story.
If the story is really that shitty (I've no idea, I'm not going to spoil me on purpose), MAYBE could have some backlash in the long run or for TLOU3.
Is like if someone leaks that in BOTW2 Link get kidnapped and Zelda have to save him. Sure there would lot of drama, but the game would sell gangbusters anyway.
Are games after all, not movies (where a bad plot usually kill the experience).

Yeah and it isn't just competing with pre-sale games, it's also new games currently in release. They're right that number 1 means less without raw numbers but it's been number 1 every single time amazon updates.
I was going to buy this day one, but all the bad stuff coming out about ND, Druckmann, and the game's story has made me a bit shy of putting money down for it.
Last night I was thinking of skipping it completely, but I think I'm gonna wait and see people's reactions when it comes out, mainly actual TLOU fans. Realistically I'll end up playing it at some point, because I love the original. But I just hope it's not the complete mess that many are suggesting it is.

I think what we should not underestimate is the Overall great Timing of These last first party exclusives. Having Tlou2, Ghost of Tsushima and FF 7 etc. in the last Year of ps4 and within the Transition Phase to PS5 is really a grand finale and an absolute testiment to the impeccable Generation Sony has delivered.

It's funny, too because the be-all end-all of what sold well on here is the NPD findings each month, but NPD doesn't go by unit sales... it's by revenue... and the games above TLOU 2 aren't full priced games.

Last of Us Part II peaked #1 on the overall video games earlier this week, but you shouldn't expect it to stay on top forever since the results are updated hourly. It's just impressive based on what's going on right now. It's also ahead of Assassins Creed, a game that was announced a few days ago.
Doesn't mean sales won't be hurt after the leaks, we're just estimating that it's going to do very well despite what's going on.

The first game is extremely popular and well liked, the vast majority of people that buy AAA games don't give a crap about gaming forum and twitter outrage, and hype is only going to increase once it starts getting high review scores across the board. Naughty Dog games tend to get high scores anyway (Uncharted 4 has a 93 metascore and it's not even that good), add to that the bonus points it will get from most big outlets for having a woke plot and you are looking at 95+ metascore already.

It actually had decent backing for it, including actual theater managers reporting that they sold 500 tickets online and no one showed up, lots of reports of half empty or empty theaters during it's huge opening weekend, mostly anecdotes but they built up big and many were from big cities. Then months later someone become a whistleblower spilling the beans on Disney's practices of cooking their books and lying about their profit margins.

90% of the people preordering the game now are fans who've played part one and loved it. They're the mainstreamers who don't visit forums and, as of now, can't conceive of the train-wreck headed their way. It's up to many of us to warn them.
