Claustrophobia

I wouldn't consider myself really claustrophobic, but watching this I can see how a person may panic if they're not really comfortable with tight spots. I've done a bit of caving (not this intense) in my past, and I've found myself going down a bit of a Youtube rabbit hole with the subject.

Going down spots where you have to contort your body at awkward angles just to get through is pretty intense.

Anyone freaked out? :P For any claustrophobics out there, don't google or youtube Nutty Putty cave / John Jones if you aren't already aware.

I didn't think I was claustrophobic until I watched that video. It's like I could feel my bedroom walls closing in on me. JFC that's nuts. I would die trying to get through that

I feel like a healthy bit of claustrophobia keeps you from doing stupid things... like descending miles down into a almost body-sized cave, and getting stuck, with nobody to help.

I have a pretty big problem with spaces where it feels like there's potential for me to be trapped. I don't mind it, because the awareness is nice. You never really know.

For example, I remember an old Gaf topic about some retail worker getting stuck inbetween the freezers in the back and dying there. Which I imagine to be the most horrible thing.

Yeah this is how the Descent Part 1 and 2 started no fucking thank you.

Going upstairs on St. Peters Basilica was nerve wracking enough for me, it starts closing in more an more. It didn't help that an old man that was behind me smelled like bad breath + cigarettes while I did the whole way too get up there. It was a real tough experience but the view of Rome on the top was glorious.

What a nightmare. I've been in some caves before but the worst I've done is just crouching while walking through water. No way would I ever do this.

I'm claustrophobic to the point where one of my biggest fears revolves around getting stuck somewhere I cant get out of. Even having jobs or school where I wasnt allowed to leave the premises and just being conscious of that would drive me mad.

I have nightmares sometimes where it's like that Mario 64 level where you're swimming in that glass box collecting coins and can get out

My cousin used to think it was funny to lock me in rooms and stuff when we were kids.

Horrifying

went cave spelunking a few times, you get stuck occasionally

buddy system and a cool head keeps you from making fatal mistakes, like the john jones dude

basically don't take vertical traps and you'll be fine

watched this on Netflix the other day ... Oh man, it's scary.

I don't see the draw to slide down into a cave barely big enough for me to fit into so that I can't even turn around in it should I come to a dead end. I mean, what do you do then? Do you have to slide backwards back out the whole way? What if you've gone a mile into this? And what about if there are other people in there with you?

Do such caves ever open up? I'm guessing they do.

friction fucks you up, that's what

Have you seen The Jacket?

It's about a man who can time travel after being put in a straight jacket AND in a tight morgue drawer and getting a panic attack there.

Imagine if you could travel through time ONLY if you went through this panic situation that almost makes you insane.

The mere thought of being in a place where it's physically impossible to move from lying down to a sitting position or moving your arms around to at least one direction fully stretched makes me crazy.

I was once in a MRI machine taking a scan of my brains and oh dear lord I had to give all I got to focus so that I wouldn't succumb into panic there. It didn't help that at one point I started to think that what if this thing starts to push me further in the tube and I learn it's infinitely long to the direction I'm being pushed at and I have no way to change the direction and every second I will be further from safety and deeper into infinity.
I really thought it would've been an easy thing to do but I had to close my eyes when passing through some whatever laser sensor and then I was allowed to open my eyes, but when I opened my eyes the ceiling of the tube felt way too close to me and I was like, NOPE, gonna close my eyes now.

I've never seen that, but it sounds interesting. I had an MRI once too, and I was curious what they did for those who had really bad claustrophobia, so I asked. And they (obviously in retrospect) use a sedative.

I get claustrophobic in my own apartment, among other issues so yeah it's really rough. I'm also at the base of a mountain so I always feel like I am in a really bad spot. I go outside to try to lessen the mental load, but I can also never stray too far out because of Agoraphobia. It wont let me upload the image here to this site for some reason, so here is the imgur link instead:

Holy shit, you have claustrophobia *and* agoraphobia?!?

I feel for you brother!

Of course I googled nutty putty cave. What a horrible death. Worst next to buried alive which is more or less the same.
These videos make me uncomfortable.

I have a pretty simple rule that has served me well, if theres a chance I can't get out of something easily, I don't go in.

Check out The Jacket, it's an awesome hidden gem.

Plus it's got some ahem, steamy scenes with an early 20s Keira Knightly.

I know I'm spamming my own thread a bit, but I'm still in this caving rabbit hole and found a couple more that were interesting:

This one's kind of humorous, and I'm surprised how calm the guy is.

This one just seems ridiculous to me. When you see the size of the hole, I'm not sure why anyone would want to willingly try and force themselves through it. I think I would freak out in that one.

I heard on a podcast the other day they were asking what the worst way to go is. For me, it's being stuck in a super tight spot in a cave like that and not being able to move. Imagine being pinned in a tight space for hour after hour after hour until you starve to death or die from dehydration or suffocate or drown if the cave floods.

I went to a cave once where you descend in a little elevator a couple hundred feet, then it's like a mile of relatively easy walking, basically down a hallway sized space, to a big open area with a perpetual waterfall that drilled through the limestone.

Anyway, you (or I at any rate) could feel the WEIGHT of all that rock above me, and it did NOT feel good :P Plus they said if the elevator broke you'd have to crawl through a half mile of narrow spaces to get out the "emergency exit".

Needless to say I've little desire to go back :P

How some motherfuckers think caving into unmapped narrow spaces is a good way to pass time is beyond my fucking comprehension.

Like, check this shit out.

I like cave with paved paths and full of lights and tourist. The idea of exploring some random cave, especially a narrow one is so far from interesting to me.
