Roger Goodell (basically) apologizes to Colin Kaepernick

Just admit that what you are doing as a business is completely determined by what is or will effect your bottom line.

None of these companies care about any movement. They will try to back a winner... flip flopping along the way.

I would imagine at the end of the day if the NFL did that it would have more genuine goodwill for being openly transparent about what everyone else already sees.
 
I get a laugh out of all these companies and corporations rushing out statements of support.

LOL no bitch you only support the money and how that may be affected.

Sad thing people actually NEED to read this from them or they go insane.

This should worry everyone. It may seem like a joke, but corporations have bet on a winner. They've chosen intersectionality and the far-left, as a whole, as the favorite to win. Apple, Amazon, the NFL, Sony; they're betting on this woke garbage. Things are getting worse.

What did the NFL do wrong, exactly? They let the guy kneel. They let anyone who wanted to kneel, kneel. They didn't try to put restrictions on protesting during the national anthem in the CBA (it's in the NBA CBA). They didn't tell players what they could and couldn't support with their time and money. They set up a $100 million SJW slush fund. Kaepernick was never suspended and was never told he couldn't play. The NFL doesn't advise players, the NFL doesn't cut players, and the NFL doesn't sign players. Why is Roger Goodell doing this? What a wimp.

Nothing to apologize for. It's a shit situation, but Kaep is a below average QB who shouldn't be starting and every time the starting QB got intercepted you know there would be pressure for him to start. It's just not worth the distraction.
 
If you feel the need to publicly say you don't condone racism then there must be something you're afraid of. In this case it appears to be losing lots of money.

Seems to me that "not condoning racism" is the norm and has been for awhile. It would be easier if only the organizations that do condone racism made announcements. That way the left could hate those organizations instead of everybody including themselves.

I had a whole thing typed out, and it sounded insane. So, I'll try to keep it sane. Maybe I'm overthinking the whole situation. For me, as a passive fan of the NFL, I always saw Football through an American patriotic lens. From high school football, to college football, to the NFL. The family I would watch football with, and the friends in college that were huge fans, they were always patriotic and pro-America, even if they weren't political. When Kaepernick took a knee, it was like a personal offense to them. My Grandfather and his friends were furious about the whole thing. To see the NFL talking about and embracing such political issues, especially such leftist political issues, is a surprise. Maybe times have changed since 2017. Maybe the demographics of the fans have shifted enough. Maybe it's just my experience with football.
In a larger sense, to see all these companies donating to Black Lives Matter and the NAACP shows where they think the public is. We know from studies that the extreme left is less than 10% of the country, but it's one of the most vocal. We know from recent financial examples, that woke media doesn't sell. We've seen in the past that people don't want everything to be political. The audience wants escapism. It's just strange that these companies are catering so much to the maybe 10% of people that are invested in those types of extreme politics. The people that read negative articles from The Root, The Daily Beast, and Vox, are going to become football fans because of this. Again, maybe it's just a demographic shift, and I don't really hang out with the Zoomer demographic.

There's a lot to digest in that. The sources tell me you might be looking to hard at a small demographic, on both sides. You'll only find extremes.

I don't know your age but "grandfather and friends" makes me feel old. My grandparents moved on years ago

I will never understand this mentality. These are usually the same people who hate "big business" and "corporations" yet look to them to hold some kind of morale leadership.

Kaepernick took advice from a military vet on the best way to protest without being disrespectful. The vet told him to kneel because sitting was disrespectful (even though lots of people sit during the anthem).

And there were lots of people from the military, current and former, who supported Kaepernick. Including police officers.

We kneel to pay respects to fallen soldiers. We kneel to propose to our girlfriends.
We kneel show honor.
We kneel to pray.


So I'm not sure why people think kneeling in protest of something noble is wrong? We're Americans but if we find fault in our government or systems of government, we shouldn't bring attention to it? We should just shut up and "protest" in a way that doesn't get eyes on it?
 
This is more or less a publicity stunt to further their brand. They don't really care about the movement. If they did see it Kap's way there would have been an apology within the year he stood his ground and showed the world what he fights for

The NBA has a rule in all player contracts where they can't kneel for the national anthem, etc. Which makes me laugh when LeBron opens his poser ass mouth, especially bending the knee for China.

I get that. But folks kept going on and on about "kick those sons of bi**hes out"... For a long while it felt like most people were against kneeling as protest. From Trump to Fox News to mom and pop ... It seemed like the only ones defending Kaepernick and kneeling were a few cops, policemen and BLM. No one saw that what he was doing was peaceful. That just said "this isn't how to protest! Don't do it like that"... But never said HOW they'd rather he or anyone should protest instead.

I actually think it has more to do with these corporations having mainly female HR staff who only hire and push policy that they consider good.

They explained in the video how they felt it could've been done. I kind of agree with them as well. Kaep didn't help his case wearing socks with pig cops on them.

When your kid is at the store screaming and making a scene and knocking things over because you told him he couldn't have the toy he wanted, the last thing that will teach him his lesson is apologizing and giving him his toy.

The country has now learned the lesson that if you destroy enough shit, you get your toy. What toy will the kids want next? And how loud will they scream for it next time?

Kaepernick was an athletic one-read QB. Guys like him fall off fast as their athletic skills decline and defenses cease to be scared of them taking off. You can see the decline on that chart, look at Y/A, although that team was truly awful.

If Kaepernick were to come back now, I think he would embarrass himself, honestly.

It was a little too late at that point. When it all started, he stated, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country..." It began as an intentional act to show his lack of respect.

Another thing to remember is Kaepernick agreed to take some money in exchange to never speak about team owners blackballing him for kneeling. Money was more important to him than exposing injustice. He chose to be silenced for cash.

He sparked a national conversation, a multi-year movement, and lost his job for it.
The movement continued without him (now thats power), so he got to take a settlement since he had been illegaly blackballed.
Now his former employer is admitting they were wrong (after paying him do they wouldn't have to) , he will have massive sponsorship deals, more people will be kneeling, and we've acknowledged that the flag bullshit was just that.

A single black man made the NFL look like fools.
He made the President look like one too, but that's not an accomplishment.

He was a below average quarterback that had 1 decent season, today he would be lucky to get a spot as a backup .
Quarterback's like him are a dime a dozen one trick ponies, great athleticism that can run but average passers that look lost under pressure.

Kaepernick wasn't wrong, everyone with their panties in a bunch over the kneeling were, and teams weren't wrong to not want to touch that with a ten foot stick. He was an ok QB, I can't fault a team for not wanting to get all up in that controversy to hire an ok QB. But Mike Pence is a little bitch for showing up to an NFL game just so he could shoe what a pussy he is by leaving in a huff to waste tax payer dollars in a publicity stunt.

The vet's advice was to take the knee. Not any other thing. So no, it didn't start as an intentionally disrespectful act. And that's his right, and the right anyone else who doesn't feel like this country is living up to it's ideals of "all men are created equal" and "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Because it isn't. As seen with the widespread police abuse of the citizens of this country. Not just black Americans.

And yeah... He settled. He was blackballed (I'm glad you see that) and took the settlement money ... I don't begrudge him that.
