I could be wrong but I have to imagine that more frivolous reporting happens in the gaming section than anywhere else. In politics if you post something hateful you get reported, in gaming if you simply imply something negative about someone's favorite toy box you get mass-reported.

Yes it does. People as individuals can't understand when they're experiencing cognitive dissonance themselves. People on the "same" team or the "opposite" team all agreeing on a topic is also about as useful as non-alcoholic beer. It's only when a critical mass of other people with diverse points of view who hold both agreeing and disagreeing opinions regarding the topic all decide to be temporarily in agreement on one thing - that someone is acting unreasonable, that we can start to see a pattern. While it's not a guarantee of accuracy, it's decently good indicator. It at least weeds out a lot of conflicts of interest.
