Ideally we would all like number 2 to be the case but like Fake Fake mentioned who and how the hell do you decide what is too negative or too positive? It's an impossible task. As long as people aren't clearly trolling and/or making up bullshit to get their points across then nobody should have an issue with whatever is being said or being talked about.

Sure, software for creating models and stuff, I'll give you that myself with the limited dumb shit I've has to do with it (Some shit is able to run over RDP these days, it's fucking crazy)

I don't really think they do fuck all with the rest of the engine and workings of the system; they're artists, they create affects, why would they need to know what level rendering happens, what bus the SSD is being streamed over, and how the system may implement piracy checks in different parts and such and that may affect over all RL performance, etc
Something isn't right, they'll be told to rework it, and that's it. It's completely not necessary for the job

Which is why even the most accredited VFX school doesn't list their shit as a tech degree, but as an art degree

Nothing in there screams to me as in depth tech learning

We want solid answers on numbers; we talk with devs and the hw manu, not artists

What you are describing it far too much of a blanket picture. Maybe in the very large studios you could liken it to being more driven like that but most studios are 100 people with artists and programmers doing both.
