Dear god what have they done

Still love it. DQVI was a very big step up in graphics as this still looked like a Famicom game with more color. It was the greatness of the game that shine through the very modest graphics.

Right in the feels. My first DQ game. I played a fan-translated Super Famicom rom. It was ugly at the time and looked like a NES game.

Call me crazy, but i personally think Ki one of the best 3D looking game. Even today.

For me, SFIV and sfv chars designs are ugly. But i play and love those games too. I don't care!

Play on the Fulgore stage with those crazy lights is insane!!!

Go Go Neo Rangers!

The presentation of KI is legit AF from every aspect. The music they way it's interwoven into the fights is by far one of the coolest things of this gen and doesn't get nearly enough love.

(Btw if you want to beat the shit out of each other in KI let me know 😂)

Die By The Sword - the first game I can remember where you could beat your friends to death with their own severed limbs, but it was fugly even when it came out.

(And it was capped at 20FPS... That's right, twenty. shudder)

Kenshi. Ugly af esp it's a modern game. But has deep gameplay systems AAA games wish they had, and amazing thematic setting.

I know, past 3D games somes are ugly, but i want a really ugly game that you love the vibe, gameplay...and even its charm! :)

I start;

Still have my disc, i love this game!

Relative to other games of its time... wouldn't say it's ugly. Also sad 3D beat em ups have died.

Go Go Neo Rangers!

San Francisco Rush - the PS1 port. Ugly as sin (even back then). Still love it, still play it. So much fun.

Was there ever a point to the giant ass loop you could find or was it just there to dick around with?

I never found it... :messenger_face_screaming:

Woah never knew this ver existed. Seems like it retained the amazing physics, which is the heart of Rush games.
Exactly. And that's why I love it.

I played the original at the arcades and I knew this was ugly in comparison but it is a blast to play (to this day).

I also love 2049 for the DC and I've been playing it a lot this year. So much fun.

It is man, play on original hardware lol!

Yeah, its a shame, at least we have Yakuza and awesome Musou games like Segoku Basara!

I got one brawler for ps4, its a lot of fun;

Jp only!

Stardew Valley, what a fantastic game but those sprites eww.

of course it has the redeeming point of being huge and be developed by just one person.

Looks brutal! How much do I lose is I don't know Japanese?

There's a manga! U can read before play, but it's basically school gang wars.

Also, there's 3 live action movies of Crows!

Game has story, but it's static image with dialogue.

Worth for some badass moves, chars and customization! Gameplay isn't deep, but it's hella fun!

The DS version that i played looked beautiful to me.I especially loved the way the towns and villages looked. But from what i've seen the original also had a lot of charm. I don't think i'd ever call it "ugly" personally.

test drive 6

to add salt to injury that was the dreamcast version. well dreamcast didn't have many racing games back then.
Wouldn't say it didn't have many... it had a good amount relative to its small overall library. Less than Playstation 1 and 2. Daytona 2001, Sega Rally, Hydro Thunder, Rush 2049, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Metropolis Street Racer, Sega GT, Star Wars Racer... Pretty much most of them were good and good looking. Test Drive dud for sure tho.

Driver 2 is a pixellated mess but it's my favourite game of all time.

In fact, I looked at the sequels and even though they all tout more advanced graphics, the gameplay still pales next to the original. Probably my first realization that photoreal visuals aren't everything.

The fact the developers were even able to pull off this game on the original Playstation hardware has me more impressed than fancy shaders ever will.

This game looks so ugly, but that didn't stopped me from enjoying it.
Damn, I thought JFG looked pretty damn good for it's time.

This level was rocking pseudo real time reflections and some pretty good texture work. Limbs and lazers flying everywhere - the framerate was doo doo and the first level didn't look great, but still a super impressive n64 game.

My pick:

I really forgot how incredibly ass ugly this game is until I loaded it up on an emulator a few months back. Very fun game with solid gameplay but it's one of the ugliest N64 games I can think of.
