LOL every forum from Era to B3d has been talking about that $ 20 UHD cost for the past week lol. Sources, FFS.
They brought nothing to the table and just speculated on pricing, it was non technical and negative.
I felt the same way when I was watching that video as if they were trying to kill the hype. Digital Foundry is fast becoming like the Dictator who thinks they are treating their citizens very fairly.I just found their overall video very negative in tone, I am probably too sensitive in regards to this but their approach in that video surprised me, hard to put a finger on it, it just sounded rather downbeat.
for the excitement of new tech on the horizon i just expect more enthusiasm from them.
That's a full player though; going to have decoding chips and other processors.Curious to see those sources myself, and why this is the cheapest UHD Blu-ray at $268 if it's only a $20 to make:

Don't forget PS Plus subs, the stuff they sell in their store, etc.The 8$ is sonys extra cut from 3rd party sale on ps5 store, what about sony first party games....Sony get all the money. So DF were wrong on that, one first party game digital vs retail and compute that one.
Poor video.
Yeah, I do my best to remain impartial and I usually like DF but when I was watching their video, it almost felt as if they were fear mongering about the PS5's size and price point, he literally spent the whole video discussing the potential issues consumers will face when buying the PS5, save that shit for tabloid gaming journalism and stick to deep tech analysis and reviews.I just found their overall video very negative in tone, I am probably too sensitive in regards to this but their approach in that video surprised me, hard to put a finger on it, it just sounded rather downbeat.

Ironically, I think that Alex's discord name is 'Dictator' so it kinda fits.I felt the same way when I was watching that video as if they were trying to kill the hype. Digital Foundry is fast becoming like the Dictator who thinks they are treating their citizens very fairly.
If only Sony had a buzzword for this thing akin to "smart delivery"
We don't know what sort of integration to expect in next-gen Xbox. I suspect in the beginning it'll be similar to what you get on PlayStation, with dedicated share button now, streaming UI/interface should redirect you to stream via YouTube/Twitch/FB whatever it is.
Main takeaway is that they are cutting their losses, investment in that platform must have been in hundreds of million if not billions. Now, they seem to be going ultra deep with xCloud and their partnership with FB/IG. I don't know what to make of all this, Stadia announced partnership with YouTube for this sort of stuff and nothing came off it. So who knows?
So MS have shut down Mixer, and it seems like they are completely cutting their losses. Apparently, all big named streamers they signed in Shroud and Ninja got paid in FULL and are now free to stream elsewhere. Fair fucks to them for making bank but what a gigantic waste of investment from MS which could've been put elsewhere.
Really curious as to how they'll integrate streaming to next-gen consoles in conjunction with FB. I can already see continuous messages to have FB linked with Xbox Live.
i mean i have been telling you guys that this stuff isnt mind blowing to everyone. there isnt really that much to get enthused about since they showed pretty much nothing from a gameplay perspective. we got ratchet and some indie games showing last gen gameplay. ok.I just found their overall video very negative in tone, I am probably too sensitive in regards to this but their approach in that video surprised me, hard to put a finger on it, it just sounded rather downbeat.

I really liked The Order. It has some kind of really strong cinematic vibe. Shame that we will not see a sequel, it was one of the best looking games of generation IMO. A second part in style of the "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" would have been a blast.
That include retail margins and all the others costs to sell a standalone product. That's a full player though; going to have decoding chips and other processors.
Just a UHD BR drive on PC is like $130 or something.
The usual DF shilling, spread all kind of BS about the size and how it's hard to fit PS5 in a stupidly extremely tight fit that no one should use in current gen but not say the same about the XSX that makes it impossible in many benches.
Wasted 16 minutes of my life watching that, I would rather waste it on having fun elsewhere or learning something good.
Seems like it's still in Sony's hand anyway:

The Order: 1886 developer doesn't own the IP, is now a platform agnostic studio

Care to elaborate ? I'm quite curious to know what you were expecting ?i mean i have been telling you guys that this stuff isnt mind blowing to everyone. there isnt really that much to get enthused about since they showed pretty much nothing from a gameplay perspective. we got ratchet and some indie games showing last gen gameplay. ok.
its great that you guys think the ps5 games are the greatest thing since sliced bread, but a lot of us were expecting more. and i dont just mean better graphics.

It's included in the price but the price is higher (60 EUR is more than 60 USD). I heard from friends that in some European countries new games are even sold for 70 EUR.Well, (8x100)/60 = 13.33(3)%, that's how
I'm literally saying out of $60, 13% being the sum costs of selling that software is insane, especially when you add all those I described (i.e. printing, disc, shipping, storing, cut to the retailer). And I even didn't add VAT, so please insert that one somewhere in the equation. And before you say VAT is paid separately, that may be the case in the US, but at the very least in Europe it's part of the price, not a side thing.
New Uncharted, if it happens, will be a different game (characters, feeling, maybe even gameplay) so it only makes sense. I think ND are done with the franchise and that's good. Artists need to seek new inspirations or their creations become stale and predictable.Sony could still make a sequel to The Order since they own the IP, it's now just incredibly unlikely that RAD would be developing it.
Sony doesn't have a tradition of moving IPs around its internal studios for mainline games, but there have been rumors of the next Uncharted being done by a new SIE studio in San Diego, so who knows really.
Depends on a game. DICE patched it in Battlefield because people with SSDs were occupying vehicles at the beginning of the round. But when I play, say, Division or Borderlands with friends, I can get quite far in a level while they still load and curse meProbably. Match won't start unless everyone has completed their loading.
I don't use iPhones but I don't really care if my phone has 64 or even 32 GB. My photos upload to the cloud right after being taken, music I listen to is streamed. Even 32 GB is more than enough for the apps I use.Why would someone cheap out over $100 with an extremely underpowered console if it's not just an alternative console alongside PS5? And about digital, I'm not interested in physical at all, but would buy the regular one just in case, and I think the PS5DE will still sell strong. It's also a good way to slap "Starting at $399" for PS5, as most buyers end up buying the higher console, just like most high end phones and iPhone in particular with the ridiculous 64GB models and no memory extension options.
They will have to offer some lobby activities for next gen users so they can wait for current gen ones.![]()
That Arab Sackboy is cute!
A BD player isn't just the drive, it has other components. Also, if it were $99 nobody would want it.Curious to see those sources myself, and why this is the cheapest UHD Blu-ray at $268 if it's only a $20 to make:

You're paying for the brand, I guess?
If you read playstation blog it is 4k dynamic 60fps in performanceMore on new Avengers game from Square Enix press release: https://press.na.square-enix.com/MARVELS-AVENGERS-CONFIRMED-FOR-PLAYSTATION-5-AND-XBOX-SERIES-X
Happy to see them offering performance and graphics mode. I hope all next-gen games do so, I'll happily opt for 1440p 60fps over, 4K30.
Nit true at all. Beside game in performance mode is 4k dynamic 60fpsOn ANY platform... to DOUBLE the frame rate you must take more than a drop to 1440 from 4k.... you'll also need to reduce effects to DOUBLE the frame rate to a stable 60 from a stable 30 unless the game was already actually running like 45fps and the devs had it locked at 30 to reduce the tear.
Sony could include the Media Remote with the PS5 to sell us the idea that we are buying a Home Cinema System too. It could even have its own UI and works without turn on the PS5.Welcome to using Windows; it's far from impossible though.
Also there's a Pioneer Blu-Ray drive in there at $133. So paying way less than that Sony drive posted earlier.
If you have a Sony TV, you already have a remote. It works with PS4.Sony could include the Media Remote with the PS5 to sell us the idea that we are buying a Home Cinema System too. It could even has its own UI and works without turn on the PS5.
This is why $499 and $399 makes sense to me.
[...] I would take off a shelf even for PS5 to have better air flow [...]
Not necessarily a Sony TV as long as it has CEC or whatever the tech is called on your tv you can control your ps4 with the TV remote. If you have a Sony TV, you already have a remote. It works with PS4.
I don't know if this was already discussed, but, while I was looking at some GPUs to help a friend of mine build a new rig, I noticed something odd:
1080TI: 3584 Shading Units, Base Clock 1481 MHz, FP32 performance 11.5 TFLOPS
2080: 2944 Shading Units, Base Clock 1515 MHz, FP32 performance 10.07 TFLOPS
So, we have two cards, one having more but slower compute units, the other has a smaller amount of compute units, just a bit faster.
The GTX 1080TI has a higher core count and a bigger TFLOPS count, meanwhile the 2080 has the only advantage of higher frequencies.
In most specialized benchmark, the 1080TI is always on top compared to the 2080.
But, try to guess, who's the one that runs better every game???
The RTX 2080!!!
Mind blown.
You are basically describing the vision of Xbox One.Sony could include the Media Remote with the PS5 to sell us the idea that we are buying a Home Cinema System too. It could even has its own UI and works without turn on the PS5.

Thanks for expanding on the thought. I didn't want to speculate on other brands as I haven't bought a different brand TV for over 20 years. I have 3 Sony TVs at home, the oldest is 14 years, I think, and none of them has ever had any fault. The first colour TV with a remote my family had lasted for 20 years with 2 minor repairs. Not necessarily a Sony TV as long as it has CEC or whatever the tech is called on your tv you can control your ps4 with the TV remote.
You can check here all the names that brand uses that is CEC.
Edit: Just be careful that your console is plugged on the right HDMI slot as some tvs nly have on one port.
Imagine being this dense holy shit
You are comparing two different architectures. I know what you're alluding with your thinly veiled post but XSX and PS5 are both RDNA2 based. Compare the 2080 to a 2070 or a 2060 can come back with your findings.
And please stop helping anyone build PCs
That's a terrible idea. They are selling the PS5 as a game console, using their first party games as a selling point, and that's the correct thing to do.Sony could include the Media Remote with the PS5 to sell us the idea that we are buying a Home Cinema System too. It could even has its own UI and works without turn on the PS5.
This is why $499 and $399 makes sense to me.
Nope my friend. You are the one saying dense fudness. The CUDA cores didn't change that much between the two generations. As you can see here, the older 1080TI, having 12,5% more Teraflops, has a rendering speed advantage around that value, so the efficiency is almost the same.Imagine being this dense holy shit

So what's the TL;DW of that video again? It's been a long time since I've watched a DF video and had fun with it; lately it's like they're paid to polish turds and it's a bit pathetic.
TL;DR PS5 is too big and can't fit in any bench, XSX is not. PS5 is too expensive at around $500, but XSX probably a $200 console as he makes it sound. If I speak from my ass I would make more sense that he did.
So if I don't have a piece of furniture to fit my PS5 in, I shouldn't buy the PS5. Ok, that makes sense in DF's world. If I'd buy my electronics to fit my furniture I probably wouldn't buy that many anyways.
So they say that the fridge form factor is more furniture-friendly?
Yup, a PS5 that's as high as PS3 with the extra stand horizontally is more problematic compared to the XSX that's slightly thicker than 2x Xbox One fat stacked. It's covid, they must make some money out of bullshit.![]()

Yeah that's what's in the article, so I'm merely using their numbers ($60, $8 and 30/70 split).
The craziest thing for me is that almost 50% goes to retail, packaging, etc. And we are still always paying $60 for digital games... So up the prices for retail or lower digital prices to make it fair.
I really hope Microsoft will launch a digital license sales platform. They won't, but if someone would do it, it's them. It wouldn't be that difficult to create, the only issue is that everyone would buy their games there instead from their own store, so they should just take a cut to make up for it.
I'm not sure if it's still in place, but Sony has a policy that if third/second party develop exclusively for PlayStation, Sony gets the ownership of the IP. It's one of the reasons Insomniac actually developed Sunset Overdrive for Xbox. Sony would have had ownership of the IP, Microsoft didn't. In highsight pretty funny now that Insomniac is a Sony first party developer.
Been looking at 4k monitors because my current 1080p one is dying. Any good recommendations, just browsing at the moment dont know if I'll be able to afford one yet. Though I could always sell my body to science to afford onetho will suck if my monitor dies and I get ps5 and have no screen to play on
Not quite sure on budget yet its depending entirely on how the next few months go with the current situation and if I end up getting the flu putting me out of work. I prefer gaming on a monitor you get better response times and much greater PPI on a 27inch monitor compared to a big TV. I atleast 4k 60hz HDR monitor. What's your budget? And why not a TV? Nothing beats an incliner chair and 55" or bigger screen:

Yeah it works on xbox and ps3 too ... dunno about Switch but I can't see why not.my Samsung remote works on my xbonex

I've used a monitor for ps4 for the last 5 years and it gave me better experience than I got from a TV because there is a lot less lag and no heavy post processing features going on. Yeah a TV would like that would be nice but I dont have the budget for that I would have to sell my legs or summon to get oneYou just don't know what you're missing, but if you are a hardcore shooter gamer then monitors would still be great for you for PC gaming. New TV's have VRR and 4K@120Hz if you've not been keeping up, and both PS5 and XSX support that with ALLM as well (HDMI 2.1 feature set).
