Well, a great TV like Sony XH90 is now at $999 for 55" and it's one of the best tv's for gaming out there. Keep an eye for it during Black Friday, or like early 2021 when prices get to the very bottom. Just a tip :lollipop_wink_tongue: Also put TCL 6-Series in your list, and it has wonderful input lag (and HDMI 2.1?)* with decent prices. You can as well go for this Sony XH80 priced at around $600 for 43" but no local dimming nor HDMI 2.1, but has amazing input lag:

I'd like to add that the Xbox One X also supports VRR & ALLM. So if you're tight on budget, the One X can be a great option to experience early (cross)gen games and wait for the price of PS5/Series X to come down. I expect clearence sales on One X consoles. See them quire regularly around 279,99.

I would highly recommend not touching any current gen at this moment. And if you wanna go for the Xbox route either go for XSX or never. PS5DE could be great if you're a digital guy like me, but I don't really care about the margin and would get the the original PS5 just in case, although I'm 100% digital since more than 5 years now.

That statement lacks nuance. For certain people it's illogical to buy PS4 Pro/Xbox One X late in the gen. Those are mostly the people already have PS4/Xbox One and enjoyed a lot of the games this gen.
If you either haven't played a lot of games this past gen, then PS4 Pro/Xbox One X are very good options to play games with a good IQ at a good entry point.
Additionally, publishers will stretch out cross-gen games as much as possible because of PS4 and Xbox One market share, with regards to the corona situation.
It all comes down to the price of Series X, Series S (TBA), PS5 Lump and PS5 Digital. If the price difference between a One X and PS4 Pro is small, then investing in a Series X or PS5 is the better choise in the long term.

TLDR: It depends.

I'm in the UK so pricing is abit different. Everything is more expensive because the £ is worth more.

Port of Horizon simply isn't a big enough scoop. I need more of his track record.

To be perfectly honest, five to six years to make a game doesn't seem like good management.

What exactly doesn't sound too good? That Sony is supposedly going to be run more like a corporation which leads to fears about creativitiy within Playstation studios?
If even Sony is going to be run more corporately, whatever that means, there is no reason to fear for their game output. So I don't really understand the concern. Is it the impossible deadlines and KPI's? Hmm I guess I can see what that can cause concern but those aren't exclusive to Sony really.

My problem is I have 2 TVs in gaming room, a LG C7 55" and a Sony 46" 1080p

I like the smaller screen for COD, so I want a new OLED 48" to replace the sony (as 55" is too large for multiplayer fast reactions and I dont want to sit that far back).

Problem is if I have 2 of the same make (2 off LG) the remotes clash in same room as they uses the same control codes...(usually).

So might have to wait for Sony 48" OLED...

Yep, that's a way to put value on the regular version at $499, promote the 4k Blu-ray player feature with remote included. Definitely will make it look like a premium product.

The GTX 1080TI has a higher core count and a bigger TFLOPS count, meanwhile the 2080 has the only advantage of higher frequencies.
In most specialized benchmark, the 1080TI is always on top compared to the 2080.
But, try to guess, who's the one that runs better every game???
The RTX 2080!!!

Mind blown.


EDIT: Or not?? Does anyone have more test to analyze?????

It looks like Turing architecture is much more efficient
RTX 2080 with 2 GHz clock 11.7 TF
GTX 1080ti with 2 GHz clock 14.3 TF
And still 2080 is equally fast or faster.

Oh, just imagining XSX horizontally in a rack makes me cringe, people will probably mistaken it for a central speaker...with a weird green light on the side.

To me at least, the PS5 shape lends itself better to have the console on the vertical stand, while PS4 and PS4 Pro looked way better horizontally placed. But that's just my opinion.

I think it won't be long at all until we all look back at how impossibly small and compact old consoles were, and realise it was no wonder they were anaemic and sometimes noisy.

The living room will adapt, and future consoles can continue to launch strong out of the game without mobile architecture and mid-range GPUs.

I'm all for the volume, whether it's in all axis or in two.

If someone hasn't bought a current gen console so far, I really doubt they will care about better image quality, probably will go for the slim ones due to price. This is why i think these mid-gen consoles will vanish really soon after next gen launches.

While we wait for the next info to drop I have two questions I have been thinking about .

1) I have been thinking more about why Sony didn't show the back of the PS5 . Do you think it is possible that sony has integrated the PSVR Processor unit into the PS5 instead of needing a secondary box ? This may contribute to the additional size of the PS5

2) We really don't know anything about the PS5 Cooling but given the size of the unit now what is the chances we we will see a PS5 PRO ? I can't see them releasing something bigger...

Pardon the crappy quality, it's just to give an idea. I took off the shelf above it for better airflow, it tends to make some noise if kept inside those tight spaces, and you can place the shelf back when you're done. That way or in an open space is the best way for console longevity, and it's a very quite PS4. Got it day one in November? 2016, and gave my base PS4 with some physical disks (bought it in December 2nd, 2013, day one here) to a dear friend who's still unemployed, sadly, until now.

This console and the previous model spends long sessions up to my personal record of 51 hours playing MGS5.:messenger_dizzy: This one is the second version of PS4 Pro as I remember the complains, the second model/revision.

Yeah definitely. I'm saying what he wants from the system is basically the vision Microsoft first had for Xbox One. This isn't what Sony presented with the PS5 though, they are smarter than that

When i first originally saw the green light at the top on the first black revealed console i though damn that is cool. When i found out it was just a piece of plastic in green my heart sunk. I know its not the case but when ever i see that green part of the console all i think of now is "Cheap".

I think they are saving the back of the Console for the teardown so they can talk about it in depth. Unfortunately we don't know when that is yet. So yeah, perhaps there's some ports that need to be explained and can be done in that segment.

I was someone who was in belief about that Zenji Nishikawa interview/rumor regarding a Base and Pro model be released at launch simultaneously. Seems the two SKUs was true, just not a Pro. Honestly, I have a feeling somehow this might be a Console that runs through the entire generation with those two SKUs. If there was a Pro, I think the size would be the same.

Could you imagine a Pro and a Pro digital model?

Let's not forget PS5 will have an expansion bay to install a second SSD, Cerny said they'd have to account for the M.2 drive PCB+heatsink.

Integrating PS VR's processor box wouldn't really add much volume. Most of what that box did was straight forward image manipulation and 3D audio processing.

Tempest 3D AudioTech hinted at commitment to PS VR the moment I heard about it. That seems to be built into the GPU, so takes no space. A dedicated chip to crop social screen output on VR games would also not need any extra volume.

The current ports used are a bit chunky, so that contributes a small amount.

He didn't say they'd have to account for it. He said that although some drive might be fast enough m.2 has no standard on height, and some of the fastest m.2 drives now have big heatsinks and even fans, so we need to wait a while for technology to catch up and Sony to recommend some.
To me that implies the bay won't be catering to them, especially if those heatsinks rely on a certain amount of airflow/volume, or even a fan connector to work, all of which are easily available in a typical PC case.

As others have already pointed out, the 1080 TI (Pascal) and 2080 (Turing) are from different architectures. The hardware units in Turing are generally more efficient than Pascal and will perform better clock for clock. However, the major performance difference in games most likely comes from the dedicated INT32 units. Turing has dedicated INT32 ALUs that are used in modern games and that work in parallel to the FP32 units.

This is the general issue with TFLOP ratings: They only account for floating point operations. All other hardware components, e.g. the INT32 units, are not accounted for in the rating.

Don't even bother. This guy is going up against Nvidia, AMD, Every Tech site out there, every forum post on the internet on the subject, and even common sense. It's not worth the time.

Yeah sure, get a Sony TV and have a constant vignette "filter" (because the borders and mostly the corners are darkened visibly in Sony TVs) and good luck with having to plug out your TV from the power from time to time because of hanging Android. Also, Auto Motion Plus works miles better on Samsungs, which are also considered to be the best gaming TVs out there. They literally have zero cons.

I don't know, INT32 units are useful when used, most of the test that compare 2080 and 1080TI are a couple of years old, I'm almost sure those games didn't use them because newer games favour the 2080 by a larger margin compared to the ones in older test. If you look at those "nitpicking" "too-much-specialized" rendering tests below (probably non-INT32), you can see that the 12,5% advntage remains in favour of the 1080TI, the opposite of what you would see ingame. The tests I saw were near launch, INT32 had just been introduced, and those games were probably non to using them. This is why I think I made a valid comparison, games were already running better without taking advantage of the newer architecture.

I no longer have 1080ti and cant make my own comparisons with RTX 2080, however I can use existing YT comparisons.

2050 MHz clock on all GPUs

Even 2070S 10 TF is almost as fast as 14 TF 1080ti.

And comparison with RTX 2080S OC

2080S has 3072 cores, while 1080ti 3584, yet 2080S still clearly wins.

Indeed he said that, but they are working with no standard size at all, and since they are relying on other manufacturers they have to cater anyway. More and more I think Sony will have to introduce their own certified drive if that catch-up doesn't happen in a reasonable period.

Gameplay for starters. And I dont mean gameplay for the sake of gameplay like they showed with some indie games like Kena and Little Devils. I mean next gen AAA gameplay. That was one of the biggest complaints of Microsoft's event in May, where they showed lame indie games and little to no gameplay, and Sony pretty much came out and did the same thing. It's really hard to get a good understanding of gameplay systems from just a trailer. Right now I am looking at all these trailers and I dont see whats next gen about it. They look prettier, sure but are the CPU and SSD being used for?

Ratchet is a great example of how to cut a trailer. They showed exactly what Cerny was talking about, and while it might be gimmicky it's something that sets the PS5 apart from next gen. I look at Horizon, Demon Souls and Spiderman and I am struggling to see what next gen gameplay systems are being used. Lets not even get into GT7 which looks cross gen as fuck because PD is basically a shell of themselves now. The less expected of them the better.

Graphically speaking, nothing blew me away like the KZSF demo. The moment people saw that, everyone knew next gen was here. What was that moment here? I cant think of one. What did blow me away was the UE5 demo. the flying sequence showcased the SSD in a way Sony's first party games that have been in development for 2-3.5 years couldnt. EA showed literally 15 seconds of footage that was more next gen than anything. People straight up refused to believe it. That's what you want, you want people to be so blown away they call BS. Hellblade 2 is another great example. The Australia realtime demo recently released by one ex-DICE dev is a great example.

It's pretty crazy to me that third party devs, Ninja fucking theory and Epic of all people have outclassed Sony studios at their own game. That simply shouldnt have happened seeing as how GG had 3.5 years to get a badass demo going. Bluepoint had 2.5 years. PD had almost 3 years. And while Insomniac did show up with the most impressive game of the show, there is only so much you can do with games like ratchet. this isnt the PS1, mascot games simply arent going to define next gen anymore. People look to spiderman or Horizon or AAA games like TLOU2 to see what games can achieve.

And then there is the fact that they went with native 4k. it makes zero sense seeing as how much GPU resources are used to get to native 4k. Anyone with a PC knows this. Literally 4x going from 1080p to native 4k. Sony devs better hope MS also goes with native 4k, because if they do go with 1440p or 4kcb then that 18% difference that is so minuscule right now is going to get much much bigger when paired with the savings they get from going down to 4kcb. There is a reason why UE5 looks so much better, it's only outputting half of the pixels of the PS5 games. They didnt waste their GPU chasing DF wars. They put it to good use making games look next gen.

Lastly, this idea that these are just gen first gen games and shouldnt be expected to look amazing is ridiculous. This is exactly the rhetoric used by MS fans who defend their cross gen stance. Oh the "real" games will come later. Wrong. Next gen games should look and play next gen. Period. We finally have a CPU that allows devs to do amazing destruction, massive world simulations like weather, NPC behavior, and interaction and we got none of that. Is there destruction in Horizon? Do trees catch fire when you use fire arrows on dinobots? Do other NPCs help you out? What are the SSD upgrades? That thing was sold to us as this secret sauce to justify a smaller 10 tflops GPU. Is it only good for level switching and loading?

What did blow me away was the UE5 demo. the flying sequence showcased the SSD in a way Sony's first party games that have been in development for 2-3.5 years couldnt. EA showed literally 15 seconds of footage that was more next gen than anything. People straight up refused to believe it. That's what you want, you want people to be so blown away they call BS. Hellblade 2 is another great example. The Australia realtime demo recently released by one ex-DICE dev is a great example.

It's pretty crazy to me that third party devs, Ninja fucking theory and Epic of all people have outclassed Sony studios at their own game. That simply shouldnt have happened seeing as how GG had 3.5 years to get a badass demo going. Bluepoint had 2.5 years. PD had almost 3 years. And while Insomniac did show up with the most impressive game of the show, there is only so much you can do with games like ratchet. this isnt the PS1, mascot games simply arent going to define next gen anymore. People look to spiderman or Horizon or AAA games like TLOU2 to see what games can achieve.

And then there is the fact that they went with native 4k. it makes zero sense seeing as how much GPU resources are used to get to native 4k. Anyone with a PC knows this. Literally 4x going from 1080p to native 4k. Sony devs better hope MS also goes with native 4k, because if they do go with 1440p or 4kcb then that 18% difference that is so minuscule right now is going to get much much bigger when paired with the savings they get from going down to 4kcb. There is a reason why UE5 looks so much better, it's only outputting half of the pixels of the PS5 games. They didnt waste their GPU chasing DF wars. They put it to good use making games look next gen.

Lastly, this idea that these are just gen first gen games and shouldnt be expected to look amazing is ridiculous. This is exactly the rhetoric used by MS fans who defend their cross gen stance. Oh the "real" games will come later. Wrong. Next gen games should look and play next gen. Period. We finally have a CPU that allows devs to do amazing destruction, massive world simulations like weather, NPC behavior, and interaction and we got none of that. Is there destruction in Horizon? Do trees catch fire when you use fire arrows on dinobots? Do other NPCs help you out? What are the SSD upgrades? That thing was sold to us as this secret sauce to justify a smaller 10 tflops GPU. Is it only good for level switching and loading?

It is surprising and disappointing how Sony propped up the event by saying that their about to show us games only possible on PS5 and the only game that really showcased that was ratchet and clank and even then it had to be gimmicky. I expected the graphical improvements, but Sony was talking like we'd see more than that but not really. Sony is fine though most people really liked the show including me and they will outsell Xbox again. I just think Microsoft bet on being cross gen for two years is viable with what Sony showed. I still think that UE5 demo is something we're not seeing for 3-5 years at the earliest.

So during discounts it should be pretty around your reach. TCL tv's are good as well and have good prices. Just start reading, I think you're thinking about the extremely expensive ones which aren't necessarily the best for gaming.

Correction unless its an 8 series or a new six series I dont know about tcl six series does not have hdmi 2.1. Hdmi. I am a proud owner of a six series 65 inch I just bought a month ago for only 750. It's a fucking steal and local dimming, Input lag, colors, etc are great but it does not have hdmi 2.1 I know 2020 8 series will.
