Dirt 5 - Official Features Trailer | PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X

I've been a big Dirt fan since the original. They have all had their own style for the most part, and this game looks to continue that trend.

You can certainly some of Evolution Studios personal touch shining through.

It looks great, more games need to reintroduce split-screen. It's one of the greatest joys of gaming.
I like the aesthetic a lot but it's been a while since I've played a rally game.... any racer really, since GT didn't have campaign.
I do have Drive Club and OnRush though, played both a little.

Been watching some gameplay vids of this, and the Brazil track looks so much like the (Brazil?) tracks from Driveclub. You can def tell Evolution are making this. I wouldnt be surprised if they were even using assets from Driveclub, some of the trees and foliage look very similar.

EDIT. Watch the Norway race from this vid, 8:38 onwards -

Looks stunning and so atmospheric when the snow and lightning start. It gave me chills just watching.

Looks extremely unimpressive for a late-gen / cross gen title. Forza Horizon 4 is few years old + open world and looks better than this.

I recently replayed Dirt 2 & 3 and honestly I don't see a reason to pick 5 as judging from the "features" video, it's more of the same. This game is stuck in 2009 when it comes to features.

Also, no working rear view mirrors in 2020? What?

Well i think it looks great, and the effetcs and weather etc are more what elevates the game imo, than the overall graphics. Does it look as good as Forza Horizon 4?, no, but then again Forza Horizon 4 probably had 10 times its budget.
As for features, people wanted a return to the 'fun' of Dirt 2 amd 3 after the sterile Dirt 4.

Yup, it knows what it's about....

Hmm, the core gameplay looks fun but I guess I expected more from the graphics. Before someone says YouTube compression yadayada there are racing games out there that still look great with that factored in.

Shame most TV don't even support 120fps.

But great, now all ps5 games follow suit with performance and quality options

looks like shit tbh. I was never a fan of the over the top style of dirt though, I much prefer regular rallye racing. But I hope this game makes codemasters enough money to work on the next dirt rallye.

Would prefer developers to target 60 FPS 1080p with machine learning upscaling to 4K (similar to DLSS) on consoles. 120FPS or native 4K is an absolute waste of resources on a fixed device with a fixed build budget.

I doubt it will run at 4k in 120FPS on consoles, including next gen. More likely there will be 1080p 120FPS mode (performance) + 4k 60FPS mode (quality).

I agree. Check for keyword "or" in my post.
Yeah I know what you meant, I just have a feeling that a lot of people expect 4K 120FPS and they will be disappointed. 120FPS on consoles is kinda useless anyway as panels with so high refresh rate are not as common in living rooms.

The weather and tracks looks awesome in dirt 5, I'm pretty hyped as dirt 4 was a major disappointment (not that it was bad but it just felt like a toned down dirt rally), so happy we are getting the fun back by the looks of it!

It seems like they are taking some artistic liberties when creating the norwegian stages as they did in DriveClub.
Henningsvær is a fishing village in the Lofoten archipelago and though I haven't visited in a while I do not believe there are that many trees in the area.
Lofoten is known for it's dramatic mountain/sea scenery and less known for their trees. Google Henningsvær and Lofoten and take a peek.
It's one of my favorite parts of Norway so it is nice to see it in a game even though it isn't a 100% accurate depiction of the area.

Brazil and India indeed have much in common.

and yes, most likely Evolution

well, performance-wise 4-player splitscreen or 120fps mean it could well run in VR just fine.

either Sony has gone mad and dropped the VR plug or it's the worst kept secret that VR will be PS5's secret weapon to be revealed after xsex next move

Another thing i really like about this game is that all the tracks and locations are brand new, no recycled content from previous games. Anyone who plays a lot of Codemasters racers, like the Grid series for example, will know how they love to recycle tracks from previous games.
It seems to me that maybe Codemasters gave this game a bit higher budget than usual, or its because Evolution (now Codemasters Cheshire) are making it for the first time.

Looks pretty cool. Splitscreen looks 30fps though, I hope it'll be at 60 when it launches.. I'm tired of 30fps racers, for a sense of speed fps is everything.

The lack of ground deformation alone makes this look disappointing, codemasters acquired the team behind sega rally Revo and it's amazing tech, so implement it already into ego engine.

Yeah i noticed that, but it could be in the final game. I have a feekling with all the weather and lighting tech being used in this, XB1 and base PS4 are probably going to struggle enough as it is, so i'd guess track deformation wont make it.
By the way, whatever happened to the old days when certain effects (like deformation for example) would be left out or added on a certain system if they could or couldnt run it?. These days its just the same stuf on each version, with only really resolution and framerate being the difference between systems.

Lot of gamers play on a 50+ inch, maybe even 4K tv, and current and next gen consoles supports up to 8 players, but the only game with 8 split screen is Virtua Racing...

Give us a f****ng 8 Players split screen!

Oh, c'mon, just reduce useless graphics effects to run at 30fps.
10TF+ beast machines, and you can't run your game at more than 4 player split screen?
Well i thought you were talking current gen systems lol. Although i'm sure they would still have to make sizeable sacrifices for 8 player even on next gen.

4 players - 30fps x 4 = 120fps

Maybe 2 player splitscreen is 60fps?

There's no excuses, Revo on 360 had full deformation which affected physics and still looked great.

You probably still need to reduce a little the game logic as well, so make car's physics simpler, but it's not important when you play in the split screen mayem.

Can't find any footage, only Dreamcast version, but VRally2 on PSone ran pretty good at 4 split screen on a PSX. 20 years ago.

For example, this runs on PC, pretty simple ok, but nearer to PS360 era than PS2/XBOX in terms of graphics:

This 12P split screen runs on a single machine, framerate is bad but consider 12 players and every instance runs in emulation:

Why do u just list PS4,PS5 for a multiplat game?

As for the game, been too spoiled by Forza Horizon to much care. Graphics look current gen, so i'd hope it can reach 120fps.

Wow that Mario Kart one is quite impressive. I like how each screen kind of looks like a N64 game, understandable.
I suppose next gen could probably do 8 player split screen if each screen was like 480p/30 or something.

Everything was copied from the PS youtube, sorry to the Xbox bros! I should have added.

Great to see Norway appear again. The Norway stages in Driveclub were really beautiful, . I hope they can reach that level.
