In Brad Sams latest video he talks how Microsoft is hyping that Xbox Series X's performance is " Sustained "

Here is a tweet from Xbox saying Xbox Series X will not have Downclocking or Boost Mode.

Xbox is on the offence I see. Direct comparison to what the competition is doing. This will be a very interesting (and entertaining) period.
unless you're a fanatic of either one of the platforms.
I can't wait for the technical deep dives on how these consoles actually work and perform.

Xbox Twitter comes across as very fanboyish and not at all professional.
Since when has the above points in that tweet ever mattered.
It's like it was posted by your resident Xbox forum fanboy.
The points posted is what I see people argue over on these forums every single day.
It's quite unbelievable.

Actually think that tweet is referencing BC and how the PS4 Pro handled playing unpatched PS4 games. It's a bit confusing, as there was an optional (and completely different) Boost Mode for that too, with downclocking to the original PS4 specs being the default.

The picture of GoW is the final giveaway.

The hardware is going to be great. Microsofts game output this past decade though, has not been. Hopefully they can provide a reason to get one at their event next week. Otherwise I'll just be playing halo infinite on my pc.

You're taking it a bit too seriously dont you think? Lol

As it should be.

The XSX will wipe the floor with PS5 in terms of performance. I'm glad to know I will get the most out of my 4K TV. I might as well have just kept my 1080p tv for the PS5 lol.

and before anyone comes in with "but MS exclusives hur do they existi1?!?!?1" well yeah....this is gonna be the first generation that i don't buy a PS console because MS actually has more exclusives i'm interested in lolelul.

Sony still living rent-free in MS' marketers heads I see.

They aren't leading the dance, they are just reacting to Sony's tech talking points and trying to one up them. Its great marketing for the already converted, and tech nerds/platform warriors, but its just blah-blah to the all important casual market.

No shade being thrown at the tech, just saying their marketing is, in my opinion, the drizzling shits.

Yeah I can imagine my brother (who doesn't spend that much time looking up games aside from buying Call of Duty) looking at this and thinking "err right whatever that means, let's av er look at the games then"

A 30 minutes old pro Xbox thread and all we have is:

- the evergreen Xbox has no games
- not professional
- fanboyish and
- drizzling shits marketing?

Come on guys, you can do better.

XBOX has always been the beefier console, with One S being the temporary exception.

It's like they're saying: 'We're gonna try this again'.

They should've learned by now that people ultimately don't care which console is the most powerful, it's the games, man.

The entire Cerny Road to PS5 presentation was full of direct comparisons to Xbox.

Why are people so sensitive when MS does it?

Hold on... MS has been riling up their troll army just before a Sony announcement lately. Maybe Sony will open pre-orders soon?
I wouldn't be surprised but they're probably trying to take some eyes off of Ghost of Tsushima's launch tomorrow

It's exactly the same on PS5 "favored" threads, SSD secret sauce lulz and stuff, like people have shares or anything.

For me It's all about the games, buy the console with the best games, the end, both consoles will run great, the differences in pixel count, frame rates, and loading times will be almost the same for each console with one or the other winning in some department, who cares.

Buy the console for the games.

I think you'll be disappointed when you see how similar they'll perform lol

They haven't made direct comparisons to this degree that often, so it's noticeable. Not judging, just pointing out.

It's literally what both Sony and MS have been doing.. when Sony randomly talks about next-gen exclusives, what do you think they are referring to? They've ALWAYS had next-gen exclusives.. the only reason their execs go out of their way to trumpet it this gen is that MS isn't doing that.

And Cerny went out of his way to basically say having more CU's wasn't a good thing (a reference to Xbox), and how their higher frequency GPU is better than a low frequency wider GPU (a reference to Xbox.)

It's just exactly what competitors do.. it's what Sony did last gen with their "this is how you borrow a game" thing..

Yeah but since this forum is like 80% pro Sony it's mostly a bit one-sided. Of course it's all about the games, especially since most people only play 3rd parties. But it's always fun to see how creative people can get when it comes to talking a plastic toy bad.

They need to worry about sustaining an output of great games a lot more than game clocks.
We'll see in a week, I suppose. The games are on the way (even more so if the rumors about WB are true).

I'm excited to see what they deliver since theyll be working with next gen's most powerful console and industry leading services (Live, XCloud)....and GamePass users will get to play all those day one for a low monthly fee.

😘

I think at most we'll see hard to notice internal resolution differences... the CPU difference is a wash even disregarding Sony's extra custom hardware likely leaving a bit more room for CPU.

There also easily could be games that perform better on PS5. If a game doesn't often occupy all of the Xbox CU's, it will absolutely perform worse than PS5.

In the end they will perform differently.. and will depend on the game really. But what Sony's GPU does it can do faster.. MS's GPU can do more at once, but slower... so we could see games that literally perform differently in different scenes/scenarios on each machine with no clear advantage.

Both are awesome next-gen machines though so it's gonna likely be down to DF style analysis as long as devs don't fuck up optimizations.

It's propable that both companies knew what the other was doing in terms of console design before each of their presentations. Due to that, each company chose to highlight their specific hardware advantages with MS stressing that their clock speeds are 'sustained and locked' to Digital Foundry and the entire 20 mins Sony dedicated to speaking about their SSD and Cerny asserting that low CU counts and a higher clockspeed is better than high CU counts and a lower clockspeed in Road to PS5.

Both consoles are very unique and distiguished in the coming gen. Each company has invested heavily in custom hardware and each console has unique advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately we're have to wait for the games to be in our hands to see how each of their design decisions play out.

Care to elaborate? I've watched that presentation multiple times and can't find a single jab at MS. Unless that just by explaining the tech inside The PS5 MS and its followers feel uncomfortable inside. The problem is that PS HAS to explain what's inside.

Just watched the video..

This is some tabloid shit... MS's velocity architecture documentation does not "throw shade" at Sony.. jesus lol

See this post:

I never said they threw "jabs".. Cerny clearly is referencing the Xbox in the presentation.. just as MS is clearly referencing the PS5 when they talk about sustained performance of GPU/CPU (without actually bringing up PS5.)

I mean neither is ACTUALLY "directly comparing" they just go out of their way to bring up the differences between their products. It's the exact same shit. They've also been asked in interviews these questions.. which is where a lot of their statements come from.

However this thread is just FUBAR anyways... VA has a unique feature in that it's SSD speeds are constant and not variable.. the documentation references typical PC SSD scenarios because it is unique, how else are they supposed to talk about a unique feature? Is Sony talking about their 3d audio chip taking a jab at MS?

This is just tabloid journalism.

I am OK with the last part. Both machines will be great. But the mid part... You know it is really easy for games to work with all CUs as long as there are no bottlenecks that hold them back. Actually ps4 did exactly that. It had more CUs but a bit lower clock rate. But they added ACE ques so many CUs could be saturated with parallel work.
Also old gen was GCN based where it was really hard to achieve peak performance. It isn't that hard with RDNA and needs less optimization. Heck I'm not even sure if code runs faster if it is optimized for GCN or optimized for RDNA if you have two chips (one old and one new) with the sames theoretical performance. You needed to optimize for GCN to get its full potential. You almost not need to optimize to get full RDNA potential.

@topic sustained performance is always much easier to work with and to max out. If you haven't most developers will not use the full potential. But in a time of dynamic resolutions at least the GPU should more or less get maxed out wherever the boost clock currently is.

Yeah, only Sony are allowed to compare their shit to a competitor.

This is not a great video. Nor a great presenter. Looks like just trying to build up follower count by surfing trending topics while not having much of anything to say.

Honestly, the specs are great and all, but it will all be for nothing of they dont deliver a good show next week.

At this point, i just dont care about the specs anymore. It doesnt get me more hyped knowing this.

What will get me more hyped is a great show next week.

So how does that work?. " Man i cant wait to play Ghosts tomorrow....wait what this on Twitter, XSX doesnt boost or downclock eh?. Man this has really put me off buying Ghosts now ffs".

We'll see. I have been a bit skeptical of Cerny's comments on CU count myself.

This thread is actually about SSD sustained performance BTW.

Why does he have partial lockjaw - it's like watching Matt Damon try to smile.

I don't know what you're arguing or what rustled your jimmies, but I'm going to say it once more.
Yes, Sony have been directly refrencing Xbox features and strategy for a while.
I haven't seen Xbox however do it so bluntly in a while. I just noticed that they did it in the tweet. I'm not saying it's good, I'm not saying it's bad, I'm not saying Sony did or didn't do it either, I just said that Xbox did. No judgement.

Well that tweet is almost 2 months old.

And the Brad Sams video is utter BS.. MS didn't really reference Sony at all in their VA documentation.

The OP is just stirring up shit that wasn't stirred by MS.

At the start of this gen the majority of NeoGAF we're responding with rapturous cheering and laughter when Sony were doing the same sort of thing. Weird 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can't stand the guy... how many bullshit acquisition rumors has this guy pushed?
Just a MS mouthpiece.
Well if it would be, then there would be a lot less bullshit. You gotta get them clicks, amirite?

Well only if I know what "mounthpiece" is in English correctly : D

It is time for all gamers to accept MS designed a better and more powerful console for next gen. Sony has been out-thought.
'Sustained' is going to hit home hard, just wait. :messenger_bicep:

What is left is the price war.
