I was way down the list before I got to ones I've seen. The first one I saw was American Movie. It's pretty surreal but also fantastic.

Citizenfour would also have made my list.

It's also missing the second saddest movie of all time, Dear zachary.

One of my favorites is Empire of Dreams.

It's a two and a half hour film about the making of the original Star Wars trilogy. It's great if you are into film making.

It is a good documentary, but if you want a great documentary on making a movie, check out Waking Sleeping Beauty, Hearts Of Darkness and Burden Of Dreams.

totally agree. It's a documentary that never makes fun at the two guys making the film. It's just very sweet and endearing towards them.

Came here to post this. Not only is American Movie super endearing, it captures the very essence of of the human spirit imho. A man against the odds. I love it.

Just about anything Ken Burns is pretty good. I was personally partial to his civil war documentary. We see a lot of unique stories and accounts told about many different people in different places, giving great insight into history while also perserving the fact that history is about people.

The following segment is incredibly poignant and moving and is an example of why his documentaries are so good.

I didnt see it on the list, but I thought 'Cocaine Cowboys' was pretty good too. I hate drugs, but I remember being jealous of some of those guys lifestyles.

Cartel Land is excellent.
I love Louis Theroux's older ones, the Weird Weekends are hilarious and the Nazi one was pretty gripping.
Age of Tanks on Netflix was awesome, I had to manually choose the English soundtrack for some reason.
The BBC doc Madness on wheels - Rallying's Craziest Years about group B always stuck with me, mental shit.
