Joking aside, game looks good. More DIrt 2 and less Dirt Rally. Which is good for me.

Oh shit finally proper Dirt is back ! looks fucking awesome, day 1

That snow + lightning storm with the forks illuminating the track so you can see the paint of your car briefly, so good ! Driveclub and Dirt just got the baby I didn't know I wanted

It doesn't even look good for a current gen title. It looks 'OK' for PS4/XB1. I get that Codemasters don't necessarily have the budget that first party Turn 10/Polyphony have access to but I can't unsee far better looking racing games.

Been watching some gameplay vids of this, and the Brazil track looks so much like the (Brazil?) tracks from Driveclub. You can def tell Evolution are making this. I wouldnt be surprised if they were even using assets from Driveclub, some of the trees and foliage look very similar.

EDIT. Watch the Norway race from this vid, 8:38 onwards -

Looks stunning and so atmospheric when the snow and lightning start. It gave me chills just watching.

That looks fantastic. Will look even better on PS5/Xbox Series X. :messenger_heart:

I'm part of the minority of Dirt fans that actually really like Dirt 3 and the Gymkhana events so to see that it's back has increased hype levels. I found 4 to be sort of bland, it didn't really have an "identity" if that makes sense. Like a poor man's Dirt Rally or something. Glad to see the 3 style is back.

I've probably asked this already, and I'll probably ask it again before release, but do we know if this runs at 60fps on current base consoles?

It seems like they are taking some artistic liberties when creating the norwegian stages as they did in DriveClub.
Henningsvær is a fishing village in the Lofoten archipelago and though I haven't visited in a while I do not believe there are that many trees in the area.
Lofoten is known for it's dramatic mountain/sea scenery and less known for their trees. Google Henningsvær and Lofoten and take a peek.
It's one of my favorite parts of Norway so it is nice to see it in a game even though it isn't a 100% accurate depiction of the area.

Edit: Added a picture myself

Yes I'm originally from Kvalsund, 30 km from Hammerfest in Finnmark. I am working as a full stack dev for a software company in Alta.

Been a gamer since the 80's (C64, Amiga and later all the PS generations plus some PC gaming thrown in for fun).

Brother from another mother then;-)
I virtually mirrors your gaming history.

Looks good to me. Dirt Rally 2.0 is great looking as well. What other games would you compare Dirt 5 to? Really hard to be wow'd by racing games for me. Having recently played Automobillista 2, Assetto Corsa Comptezione, Grid 2019, all maxed out basically @120hz, everything looks so boring and dull compared to say the more detailed environments of Dirt Rally 2.0, Driveclub, Forza Horizon 3 and 4, and a few other racers.

Take this video for example -

Comparing Project CARS 1 2 and 3.

I get it, there's a bit better of everything as you move through the generations. But holy fuck is it boring and not visually appealing (to me atleast, obviously I'm not speaking from an objective opinion, this is purely subjective when discussing graphics/artstyle and what appeals to me).

I guess ACC looks the best to me, when it comes to just pure automotive motorsports. Put AMS2 and ACC next to each other and it's hard to tell the difference though. Nothing has wow'd me more than Driveclub still. It's not the best looking racer in photomode but when driving and in motion at a measly 30fps, the game looks absolutely amazing still and nothing comes close when in motion.

With that said above, I want to talk about how I feel about Dirt 5.

Very cautious about this one. I love Dirt games, I love Evolution Studios, but so far the gameplay looks pretty lackluster. The tracks are wide as hell, the layouts seem simplistic and unimaginative. Very worried about that aspect. Are there only tracks designed with laps in mind? Are there any point-to-points? I fully expected basically Dirt crossed with Motorstorm and I've disappointed myself. I was hoping for shortcuts on tracks, windy courses with multiple dangerous paths proving difficult to take but worth it in the end. Instead we got racers with 8 or 10 turns (exaggerating, I haven't counted). The tracks so far look easy

I guess that's my main gripe. The weather is cool and the dynamic changes to tracks is neat and welcome. Definitely look forward to that.

I dunno, I'm a tool for Rally and offroad games so I'm already all in on Dirt 5 but I have quite a few concerns and I just hope I'm wrong.
