Rumor - PS5 to have 650GB of usable storage

That would be unfortunate. At least game installs are rumored to be smaller. Not sure if it makes up for it though. 175GB for the OS seems a bit extreme no?

That is absurdly bad and somebody dropped the ball big time if it's true. That's less than what PS4 had, isn't it?

So like call of duty and 2 other games. Yikes. Maybe they will let you store old games on a HDD and transfer when you want to play? Gonna suck if you need one of the $$$ ssd for storage.

So you need to buy additional storage. This reminds me of the Vita situation. So that possible 399$ price for the digital version doesn't seem that generous.

That would be pretty shit.

Really shit actually, especially considering the size of games these days (which will probably increase next gen). That's what, 4 Call of Duty's?

It's common sense if you use the same figures as this generation as percentages. A little lower than ehat we have now at 83% usable from raw.

You lose space for formatting, then lose space for the OS and reserved OS space.

Cool. It supports external storage so I'll just move games in/out as needed while I purchase an NVME SSD on the open market.

Shouldn't it be even smaller?

Since the jump to 4K resolution will require bigger textures as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a game next gen that requires an entire Terabyte. Grand Theft Auto 6 maybe?

Were a few months away...Its time for Sony and Microsoft to put all this bullshit to bed and tell folks what they're buying already and how much

Also thats not what the tweet says

It says 825gb isnt 1tb-175gb.

Then it says there will be just over 700gb usable space for the user.

The claim is that games won't take up as much space lol. I dunno how thats possible with them aiming for higher res textures etc...but thats what they've said online

175GB for os? yeah right.
Don't believe this bs.
175GB reserved for a videogame console operating system? :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Because 825GB is advertised using customer's numbers which uses decimals instead of binaries.

A 1TB HDD isn't 1TB even before Windows, it's 931GB. 825GB will have 760GB ish of usable storage. Strip off the OS and you should end up in the mid 700's. Not sure where those couple of dozens GB are going.

175Gb for the OS is stupid shit and obviously they didn't even account for basic things. Rumor is bullshit with the starters not even understanding how storage is calculated on a basic level.

Edit: Just checked and the 1TB PS4 Pro has 861GB of usable storage after the OS so it would seem whatever basic things Sony has put there takes up 70GB. 760-70 and you end up at 690GB. Assuming the PS5 needs more storage for its basic things then 650GB isn't impossible.

I'm loving this proprietary ssd future!

Ps5 won't let you play Ps5 games with externals just Ps4 (some) games because they don't have the POWER of Sony's proprietary ssd!

Same as XSX. I'm hoping the transfer process is quick and painless going from external to internal.

Is the XSX going to have a proprietary enclosure or proprietary drive?

I know the PS4 reserved space to create a fresh copy of the software including newest patches... This is why installs always needed double the actual storage space of the actual update... But since the point of the SSDs is to just update the files without having to create a separate new file package to install. Shouldn't that actually reduce OS space requirements?

Don't believe this bs.

It's not just the OS. The video recording buffer and such would also be apart of this. If it records in 4K at all times then it's totally reasonable it would take up that much space.

One X takes 140
And PS4 Pro takes about 125.

That's like the other way of the rumor that RedGamingTech just reported on. PS5 has 1TB, explains that 1TB is not actually 1TB but slight more or whatever, and then 175 is taken up by the "OS" or something like that and the usable storage is 825GB. But this rumor says the it's actually 825GB with 175GB reversed for OS so actually only 650GB 🤔 Someone is off.

I'll wait on official numbers. I do enjoy the mini-meltdowns whenever a rumor like this pops up LOL

To be fair, where did y'all think all these snapshots of savestates for gameplay we're gonna go? All that "instant jumping" from one game to the next has to be stored somewhere and I feel like this is it.

Exactly this. Considering the footprint of one X and PS4 pro right now with it's single game buffer and video capture, it's not crazy to thing XSX and ps5 will be more.

The firmware on the DualSense is 300 GB and every time PS5 is turned on it is transferred to DS, so 175GB + 300 GB = 475 GB, so if we subtract that from the total Storage, it only leaves room to install Astrobot, so all games will be running from Disc. Beware!!!

This is a non issue for me if the pricetag of the PS5 is 500€ or less. 8 to 10 games is more than enough for a first year. After that, you can start thinking about expanding storage and plenty of options will be available.

BUT if the PS5 costs more than 500€ and comes with so little storage then it's a flaw and may be worth it to wait for a price drop.

Alright, so Destiny 2 and Modern Warfare only on this machine then

175gb for a OS though? How fucking bloated is this thing, even Windows is only a few 10's of GB and that does a lot more

I dont think its true but it doesnt really matter. Space will be an issue like it was in the past.

Ill have an external SSD for transferring and will be buying a large internal when they are available.

Also have fast internet so anything downloaded can be dl agai quickly and installs are obviously quick.

Its a non issue
