That black vent kills the entire look, they should've keep the One S style. But if 299$ price is real that's one hell of offer I have to say.

This is the best looking console of all time.

Hmm.. Looking at that grill ony he Series S.. It looks it's protruding. Why would they do that? Unless...Would be cool if the black grill was swappable for other colors.

The price is good obviously, but IF the PS5 DE is $399, is the XSS really that enticing anymore? If for just $100 more you can get a proper next gen console?

And what if devs want to do ultimate high detailed eye candy game for series x, but at lower res? Like 1080-1440p & 30fps?

They make series s version to run 720p, or 1080p with lowest low details?

This just forces devs to target 4k with lower details on xsex, plain and simple.

Maybe not many would make this choice but at least there would be one to make.

They'll just target PS5 details at 1080p. :D

Ugly, but very nice size and price. Let's also reserve some judgement for its actual performance until we actually see how it does. We still don't know how much ai scaling might assist.

It will sell well regardless, a new machine that plays mutiple generations of games with almost no load times for $299 will sell.

And a big shout out to those who keep saying this machine kills games - you had better be denouncing the very existence of pc gaming as it does the exact same thing to developers. But wait.....you don't, you conveniently ignore multiplatform versions if they don't say xbox on them.

That relies on the assumption that PC Gaming is perfect and without flaws. Most of those games exist because consoles and if you started developing for people and caring about each version you produce you would see that more variation leads to either a lot higher development and support costs or games catered to a minimum common denominator (and not even pushing it incredibly much) and then brute forced upwards in practice... and basically delegating more optimisation to users letting them configure your games for you for all the HW profiles they did not want to spend time optimising for.

Console generations without a plethora of HW profiles worked as a model for 30 and so years and keeps on working for all but one manufacturer who is curiously the one pushing to bring a variation of the PC model to disrupt the console one.

Do you know how easy it would be to paint that on there? Do it man. It will go from what people on here are calling the ugliest console ever(Fanboy haters lmao) to the best looking console of all time with a couple strokes.

The design of this thing is horrible. The price is attractive for someone on a tight budget, but I'd still try to save up that extra 200 (or pay 10 more each month) to get the X.

I hope some company will make a decal.
I'll definitely let my significant other try a paint job (pun intended) on it.

No lies, the Xbox Series X is a good looking box, but the Series S is not great. That speaker grill design reminds me of a freaking boombox. That being said, excellent prices for both. Well done Microsoft.

I can easily see the Series S doing very well, as $299 + Gamepass makes for fantastic value. Buy it for your kids, excellent value and you don't have to buy that many games for them, saving the money to buy games for yourself :D.

Note how there's no confirmation for the Series X price...

That was supposed to be their "mic drop" moment for their upcoming show. They can't literally tell everything beforehand.

Lots of people are apparently going to be surprised when no console launches for more than $499.

Why would they do that? And even thier own post say estimated price, this leaves them wiggle room to $449 / $249.

This new pic you can clearly see no disk drive, which personally I have zero issue with. Now let's see more info ms!

It's a solid price but I'm still not sold on that strategy at least at initial release. Most early adopters adopt for power and not 1080p TVs.
Considering how cheap 4k TVs have been getting this seems like the least future-proof option out there.

Looks exactly like the Win Central? render minus the One S fan grille....Dare I suggest the likes of Brad and Win Central just got fed up sitting on all the info and forced Microsoft's hand? This "leak" happened late evening/night in NA and early hours EU.

A shame it doesn't have the disc drive. Will be interesting to see how it goes down outside NA.

At 4 tflops, this GPU would have fewer tflops than the ps4 pro. The rdna 2.0 architecture gains might put this to around 5 Polaris tflops, but that's still barely above the ps4 pro.

By far the weakest next gen console of all time with just a 2x increase over the base ps4.

I wish MS nothing but bad luck because if this thing is a success, it will force Sony to release a the ps5 fraud version at 4 tflops and handicap not just this gen but every gen going forward.

Imagine if the ps6 series s was only 20 tflops. Imagine if the Xbox one was only 400 gflops.

The success of this console will be worse than the wii ever was to gaming.

Probably works on US but 299€ is just too much for EU/global.

Why would people get the unpopular option for 299 when the best selling and hugely popular option is about 399-499€?

Even at 199€ I would not bet that it sells tons on Playstation dominated areas.

Don't underestimate gamepass.

Well, the strategy is to change adoption rates. Early adopters are largely early adopters due to the price tag. When the mid-gen hardware refresh rolls around, and the price drops with it, the adoption rates increase. Microsoft is front-loading their adoption by releasing the "mid gen refresh" at the start of the generation, while also supplying the full-fat console for the hardcore audience - the folks who line up at midnight, want to see that generational leap, and are prepared to pay a premium for it.
With the Series S, combined with Xbox All Access and Gamepass, Microsoft are making a hell of a play for the casual audience through sheer value, while simultaneously delivering the best hardware with the Series X. We haven't seen this type of carpet bombing strategy before. It might be the greatest shakeup in video game history, or, it could be an Xbox One blunder on a bigger scale.
