Xbox Series S Revealed (Brad Sams) - $299 Price

Not sure why the thread with the official announcement was closed...oh well.

Anyway it will be interesting to see how this does at launch

Yeah it is weird because this thread was still a rumor before the official announcement so this thread is the one that should be closed.

£249 in the UK

And again, 4 teraflops targeting 1080p have a greater perfomance than 10-12 targeting 4K.

MS has put more power into the Series S GPU than what actually needed. Ironically, in some regards could actually be that the PS5 and the Series X hold back the Series S and leave it with so much underutilized power.
I honestly am not specifically targeting your comments, I swear. But you say some of the most outrageous shit I've read on GAF.

Damn £250 😱

If I can't afford the Series X then this one is the one I will be getting. Only have a 1080p TV for gaming so 4K is useless to me (bar supersampling) but it will replace the XB1X.

Nextgen features are better than no nexgen features that the XB1X will not be getting, so it's a no brainier as they say.

Now only MS(between Sony and them) has a console that can fit anywhere a console fit previously. It looks to be less than half as thick as the XSX.

Can see this being £250 - that's a fucking excellent price point, especially with christmas. They'll grow their market just with Playstation owners also picking one of these up as a discount Xbox for GamePass Ultimate etc. Could do with seeing what sort of difference we will see in games like Valhalla and Halo though just to know what to expect in terms of compromises. This is good for gaming in general, it might be possible to actually own all consoles again.

He could bugger off to the accounts department. Can't believe that boring old cunt is the public face of the Playstation brand.
I don't know. To me he looks much more professional and exudes more trust than Phil Spencer's peddler look and "fake gamer attitude".

I hope this thing gets hacked one day, it would have an amazing future as a nice small 'under your TV' media streamer and emulation machine.

Now we see why Sony outbi
Ok, I had no intention of getting a next gen console, but at £249......I might just be tempted to put off getting a new PC until the Nvidia 4000 Series launches in a couple of years. £249 is in impulse purchase territory.

Yep, just like that MS changed what I'm doing, that pricepoint+small form factor are too sexy. I will stick with my 1660ti for PC gaming and get this. Probably will wait until late 2021 to get a new rig now.

Sure thing you can say the same stronger CPU of the XSX gimped by the same lack of customisation on the I/O side.
Like you can say the strong SSD of the PS5 is gimped by the weaker GPU that has to render the stuff the SSD loads, and the weaker CPU that actually runs the game code.

Well, if the cheapest next-gen console, the most powerful next-gen console, gamepass, xcloud and all the studio acquisitions won't get them some of that market share back, nothing ever will.

Now they just have to wow us with a couple of new, exclusive, well-reviewed "AAA" games and they have a very good shot at it.

Like you can say that the "stronger" (more CUS, less GHz) GPU on the XSX will not be fully utilised because of the weaker SSD and lack of I/O optimisations & weaker compression solution.

We can go in circles all you want. I wanted to point out how absurd it is to compare the XSS with PS5.

Brad Sams is the real hero of next gen right now lol, MS had to come out with this due to the leak, hopefully this now pressures Sony into coming out with a price, $299 Is really good.

Microsoft are starting to fire on all cylinders. They're poised so well over the PC/Gamepass/Xbox scene going into "next-gen."

I think most people on these forums don't have eyes, judging by the comments regarding its design on page 1. The design is easily prettier than all the consoles we've seen so far. I'm a hardcore PS gamer, but this console from Microsoft actually has me a little hooked. Let's see how this plays out.

It will literally play 99% of the same games that the PS5 plays, just at a lower resolution with slightly slower load times lol. It's not absurd at all. "Lack of I/O optimisations" hahahahahaha.

Is there something funny? Do you know something that we don't know? From the available information to EVERYONE the I/O optimisations on the X side are weaker.

Please enlighten us.

I find all the comments about how ugly it supposedly is to be really over the top. It looks fine. The overreaction to anything even slightly unusual, in this case a black circle on a white rectangle i.e not something we've seen on a console before, is really tiring.

This isn't actually the orientation that most people are going to have it in anyway, they will have it flat and then it looks like a small Xbox One S.

They put it vertically here just to be able to show off the more eye-catching design from this angle. They probably thought a small white box looked a bit boring, whereas this immediately draws the eye and gets people talking.

Another thing is that, boy, discussions about console designs are always so overblown. The visual design (leaving aside what the shape needs to be for the engineering side of things) simply isn't anywhere near as important as people make it out to be.

Once the console (any console) is under your TV your barely really look it. You don't sit there and study its shape and design everyday. We've seen huge hysterical screaming over the design of most consoles from at least some minority of people.

It looks fine, I honestly can't understand these reactions on a white rectangle with a black square. Maybe calm down a bit, eh? Is anyone seriously suggesting they wouldn't buy this simply because it has a black circle on top? Come on.

Anyway what I really wanted to say was highly impressive the size and price is. It really is shockingly small and I didn't think it would be so cheap. MS have had loads of problems and still do (where's all the XSX footage? Halo delayed. Weak launch line up, bad marketing/announcements)) but this is undoubtedly an impressive engineering and pricing combo.

I really don't understand people laughing at 1440p. 1440p (or indeed 1080p) games still look fantastic. I've been playing the last 1.5 years on a PS4 Pro on a 1080p TV and everything still looks great. I've used the extra power of the Pro to run games better at that lower resolution, plus I always pick performance modes.

Remember, not everyone has a 4K TV. Not everyone wants to make the performance sacrifices necessary to reach the 4k resolution either. Not everyone can afford a $499 console, if the XSX is that price.

I think some of you guys have been are being unrealistic if you've seriously managed to convince yourself that 1440p looks bad. It doesn't.

Now I still really prefer Sony's clear NEXT GEN IS THE POINT strategy. But an Xbox Series X at this price, especially with Game Pass, is going to be a no-brainer for lots of people. Parents will love being able to get their kids onto next gen at this price. If you don't have a 4K TV or don't prioritise 4K you will love this. If you would like a more portable console you will love this. If you just can't afford $500 you will love this.

We go through this weird arguing every generation. I remember when PS4 and XB launched. The same muscle flexing and faux laughing and "higher than thou" messaging from the xbox side. It went from annoying to outright aggravating.

And well, when they launched and started selling...I guess the rest is history.

And history has a habit of repeating itself.

It's good to not be on a "side". I'm buying both consoles and we've never had a gen like this so it will be interesting to see how it goes. No need to fanboy for one side while sharing memes. But don't let me get in the way of your duties.
