I find all the comments about how ugly it supposedly is to be really over the top. It looks fine. The overreaction to anything even slightly unusual, in this case a black circle on a white rectangle i.e not something we've seen on a console before, is really tiring.
This isn't actually the orientation that most people are going to have it in anyway, they will have it flat and then it looks like a small Xbox One S.
They put it vertically here just to be able to show off the more eye-catching design from this angle. They probably thought a small white box looked a bit boring, whereas this immediately draws the eye and gets people talking.
Another thing is that, boy, discussions about console designs are always so overblown. The visual design (leaving aside what the shape needs to be for the engineering side of things) simply isn't anywhere near as important as people make it out to be.
Once the console (any console) is under your TV your barely really look it. You don't sit there and study its shape and design everyday. We've seen huge hysterical screaming over the design of most consoles from at least some minority of people.
It looks fine, I honestly can't understand these reactions on a white rectangle with a black square. Maybe calm down a bit, eh? Is anyone seriously suggesting they wouldn't buy this simply because it has a black circle on top? Come on.
Anyway what I really wanted to say was highly impressive the size and price is. It really is shockingly small and I didn't think it would be so cheap. MS have had loads of problems and still do (where's all the XSX footage? Halo delayed. Weak launch line up, bad marketing/announcements)) but this is undoubtedly an impressive engineering and pricing combo.
I really don't understand people laughing at 1440p. 1440p (or indeed 1080p) games still look fantastic. I've been playing the last 1.5 years on a PS4 Pro on a 1080p TV and everything still looks great. I've used the extra power of the Pro to run games better at that lower resolution, plus I always pick performance modes.
Remember, not everyone has a 4K TV. Not everyone wants to make the performance sacrifices necessary to reach the 4k resolution either. Not everyone can afford a $499 console, if the XSX is that price.
I think some of you guys have been are being unrealistic if you've seriously managed to convince yourself that 1440p looks bad. It doesn't.
Now I still really prefer Sony's clear NEXT GEN IS THE POINT strategy. But an Xbox Series X at this price, especially with Game Pass, is going to be a no-brainer for lots of people. Parents will love being able to get their kids onto next gen at this price. If you don't have a 4K TV or don't prioritise 4K you will love this. If you would like a more portable console you will love this. If you just can't afford $500 you will love this.
