Show is basically an allegory on interracial marriages/pansexual sexuality (LGBTQ+ stuff) and critique of Americana heterosexual binary nuclear families of the past and why they're bad.

I got a friend involved with it but you can pick up slight hints from the trailer.

No one knows how or when this takes place. They are keeping very quiet about the story of the show.
The only thing we do know is that it has links to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
