It's insane that they have 7.5bil just like that.
And that's maybe not nothing for them, but still way less than they still have to spend.
"Microsoft currently has the largest cash pile at $136.6 billion as of last quarter, according to estimates from FactSet."

Thats 1/4 of yearly PKB of Poland. In Cash.

That's an amazing get, not just for the IPs but the talent to feed their own 1st party studio's as well.

I'd still expect all commitments to be held too on cross platform. But for the likes of Starfield etc. it starts to get interesting.

Well... shit.
Surely, with that kind of money, they can't be expecting to earn the buyout money back through Gamepass subs and Steam sales. My money is on MS releasing Fallout / Elder Scrolls / Doom / etc. for PS5 and Switch to recoup the cost.

I hope they go exclusive, but knowing MS they won't. They want that money.

Big if this turns those games into exclusives.

Also, as a Switch owner, I'm a bit sad... Was hoping to see ports of Fallout 3/NV on the little console.
Don't worry. If they go exclusive, it's only vs Sony. They still give Nintendo games. They just gave them Ori. (I think MS owns it right?)

If? You don't spend 8 billion to help Sony. Jim Ryan caused this money hatting everything Microsoft needed content there you go. Great job Jim you get timed exclusives Microsoft got studios.

LOL it´s not like SONY doesn´t own the biggest and best studios in the industry...

Why pay for timed exclusives when you can just buy the entire publisher? MS basically telling Sony that they're not even in the same league when it comes to their spending budgets.

That's a big move. Can't say that I'm thrilled about it, DOOM being Xbox exclusive would hurt. Maybe Microsoft will let them continue to put games on Switch...

This might really hurt Sony though, that's a lot of good IPs going to Microsoft.

So people are going to pretend they love Bethesda now? :messenger_tears_of_joy:
They might be evil incarnate when it comes to some of their practices, yeah, but the games they publish are some of the best multiplats out there. (At least for my tastes)

No they are just publishing the game, they don't own anything...

That's shitty..... But damnnnnnn!

TES, Doom and Fallout being Xbox exclusive is huge.

I wonder how Sony will retaliate...

Dude elder scrolls series is a sales juggernaut.

Only MK8D, Zelda BOTW, and Skyrim managed to chart in NPD top 20 best sellers of the decade without including digital sales number.

Smash Ultimate only missed for a couple of months as it already sold more than BOTW in the US.

But I thought Bethesda sucked? Either way, big get. Can't see it making back the investment in any way and especially under Microsoft direction, but what do I know.

Thats one way to get Tokyo Ghostwire and Deathloop Day One for Xbox

That's not how that works.

Yep, Microsoft published it, so I think you made a good point. :)

You'll still be paying MS thru the Microsoft store.

Fallout 4 is on PS+ Collection. This is probably more of a Minecraft type deal. They'll probably not make a games like the next Fallout or ES exclusive to Xbox. It wouldn't make financial sense.

I wonder what this means for exclusivity? As a mostly Sony gamer 8 years ago this would have sucked but now I'm trying to imagine a single franchise I get excited about from them anymore. Fallout 4 and 76 proved to me it's not the same pedigree, and if they do surprise me, I have a good PC. I might play the next Doom on PC I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I personally enjoy a lot of Bethesda's output (I still play FO76, believe it or not), but the internet as a whole has a hate-boner for Bethesda so I'm curious to see how many people are going to flip opinions after this acquisition goes through.

I'm not talking about sales. See what I wrote above.

Though it was no longer as big as it once was, Halo just went from the biggest first party IP to not even being in the top 5. It is not even the biggest first party FPS now.
