Holy... out of nowhere. Now, use idTech7 to fix Halo.

Your move Sony.

INB4 Knack 3 ;)

They will continue to release games on Playstation.

Yeah, those IPs are too huge to all of a sudden be taken away from a 100M+ consumer base, MS will want. I'm sure MS will market the hell out of GP with them, while still offering 60-80$ box/digital versions on PS4/5, Steam etc.

“I have personally been humbled by the many industry honors I have received, as they belong to the entire studio. But one has always stood out to me for a special reason. When I received the Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC, I joked in my acceptance “I wonder how many achievement points this one is worth?” At the end of the ceremony, some good friends from Microsoft congratulated me and said they’d find out. A few months later I was given a code to a game they had created, named after me and locked to my account. When ran, it unlocks a single achievement - “Lifetime - 1000pts.” It still sits in my list when I check, and I smile every time.”

MS and Todd have been very close

Don't care about every Bethesda franchise minus wolfenstein, no wolfy on ps5 would break my heart, I liked doom a lot but i'm ok without it

Next gen is starting pretty bad, 80€ ps5 exclusives and Microsoft only Bethesda 🤦‍♂️ What else?

Yes I felt it was. Doom 2016 felt fresh. Eternal felt like a redux on this. More mobility, more weapons, improved visuals.... but lacking that key ingredient.... freshness. That’s why I am blown away that Eternal is I the GoTG comp over 2016.

I loved both but been a person that plays most of the old shooter dayly I felt that Eternal tried to add stuff to make it feel fresh while Domm 2016 was just a perfect old style shooter. Both are great in my opinion.

I quoted you cause you sounded like someone trying to downplay the quality (or influence might be the better word for it) of Bethesda games, you can like whatever game you want :)

Fucking power move from MS there.

I'm not bothered about Bethesda games, Fallout 4 was lacking, FO76 was shite.

But ID software and their games.

My sweet sweet doom slayer.

Suddenly, exclusive titles became bad for all PS-only gamers.

Oh, the irony.
Those ip won't be going exclusive. Most of them already sell very little with the majority of console sales coming on ps4/switch. MS like money and without the ps5/switch sales they are not getting a return on their 7.5BN investment.

There were rumours about Bungie and Destiny going exclusive to xbox
If this will come to reality, I don't know if i will interested in Next gen, sadly

Can see MS releasing all games from these studios as Xbox/PC games with timed exclusivity in the future.

This will be enough to win back a large portion of the hardware market from Sony.

Then after 6 months or so of exclusivity, they will release on PlayStation to make profit from those still unveiling to come over.

This is HUGE.
People need to stop posting this they won’t Xbox and pc are the only platforms with gamepass they won’t publish this on PlayStation anymore then Sony won’t publish Spider-Man on Xbox.

My favorite Bethesda franchises in recent memory are the smaller titles like Dishonored, Prey, Evil Within, and to an extent Wolfenstein (but not the newest one). The big titles like Fallout & Oblivion have not (to me personally) seen a quality release in a decade or more.

I don't think I have bought a single Bethesda games in the past fifteen years. I don't care at all for first person games and Bethesda invested heavily in first person shooters and RPGs. So it's not going to make any difference for me.

And if they ever make anything interesting I actually want to buy, I can always play it on PC.

I'm triggered for what you said about Doom Eternal guys, especialy when you said it was a step down, I will complain and call you out on twitter be careful :messenger_beaming:.

But in all seriousness without talking about Doom Eternal. That's sucks badly for everyone... Maybe no for PC gamer (by the way come join us Sony fanboy) but it's sucks, some beloved franchise are not accessible anymore for a large portion of players, I don't see why TES VI will be available on PS5 now..
Good move for Microsoft, but bad for us.

As I said already i might have readed it in the wrong way ^^ I thought he was just trying to downlpay Bethesda influence on the industry ^^

(Doom Eternal is totally better that Domm 2016, change my mind :p)

I have mixed feelings about this, I don't like a publisher getting bought, this wasn't like Microsoft buying smaller struggling developers like they had been, this is clearly solely to get these games as exclusives :-/

it'll work though, I mean I was already planning on getting the Series X but I definitely need one now since I love Bethesda's games (and Arkane's, iD's, and Machine Works too)

MS could finance a cool 75 brandnew AAA games with a 100 million dollar budget for that money. Instead they buy Bethesda, a third party developer that already made games for both Xbox and PC. So all that 7.5 billion dollar deal accomplishes is that Bethesnda games are available on Game Pass and that Sony consoles won't get future Bethesda/Zenimax games. Was that really worth so much money??

My bet is that if you'd ask Xbox gamers what they's rahter have: 75 new exclusive big budget games for their console or a dozen Bethesda games on Gamepass, they'd go for the first option.

not a third-party developer, a third-party publisher

if there's gonna be an arms race, Microsoft just upped the ante

You can’t be this obtuse look at the studios they just brought in forget about the IPs which are all big and GOTY contenders. Those studios can now all work on new IPs and other things with Microsoft financial backing. Not to mention these are games with single player components to them something people claim they’re lacking.

Meh. Bethesda's best days are behind them. Their biggest claim to fame is Fallout 3 and Skyrim. They've been on a decline since 2015.

Fallout 4 wasn't great. Fallout 76 was a big mess. Rage 2 was awful. We have no clue if Starfield is going to be good. Elder Scrolls 6 is probably like 4 years away. Yeah, they've had a few decent games since 2015, but no doubt the quality of their product has gone downhill.

If you think Microsoft is dumb enough to miss out on 100m plus potential sales from making it just XBox only, I have no clue what to say to you. I have no doubt that if Microsoft won the last gen console wars, they wouldn't have allowed Minecraft on the PS4.... there's a reason why they allowed Minecraft on the PS4, because it makes them too much money. It'll be the same thing with the future Bethesda products. It'll just be horrible business if they just make it Xbox only.

If Bethesda games aren’t going to be exclusive to XBox, this ain’t quite the big deal it seems...

Assume these games will be on gamepass day and date (they will be) and they are still on PS5 but for $69.99, if a particular person is not all that interested in Playstation exclusives this could very well be the tipping point for them.

You make a good point.

Wondering if they could spin it as "either Sony allows Gamepass on Playstation or you don't get to play the games" ?
Pretty much and Sony won’t because that would bring their fans in Xbox ecosystems which is dangerous and won’t be good but this is Xbox overall strategy it’s brilliant who ever thought of gamepass.

Like our original partnership, this one is about more than one system or one screen. We share a deep belief in the fundamental power of games, in their ability to connect, empower, and bring joy. And a belief we should bring that to everyone - regardless of who you are, where you live, or what you play on. Regardless of the screen size, the controller, or your ability to even use one.

Do you know how hard it is to make 1 new AAA game and make it good, let alone 75? Do you know how difficult it is to make a brand as valuable as Doom, Elder Scrolls, Fallout?

Is Doom a billion dollar IP? Is Elder Scrolls worth a billion dollar? Or Fallout? I don't think so.

Let's imagine Microsoft going on a buying frenzy... after Bethesda, they purchased Take Two. Would that be enough to win the console "war"?

What. The. Fuck.
This is a system seller step for me IF this doesn't mean that the devs will be forced to develop smaller games for Gamepass.
I can't let go of Doom. And I love a lot of other Bethesda games too.

Of course they will release on both. If MS makes more money also providing a Playstation version they will do that. The Playstation market is huge so the answer to that question is yes. What is more likely is time exclusivity periods and the like. Ultimately, they need to get the 7.5 USD billion back.

To those saying is 7.5bn$ worth it ? The deal would involve Bethesda owners buying MS stock.
Sony neither has such cash nor has such market cap.

This literally means nothing. MS would not come out right now and declare exclusivity, given how they've been railing against exclusivity for the past 6 months.

Nobody should EVER believe what a company says in the immediate wake of an acquisition. It's all PR fluff. Wait 12-18 months and see what happens.
