This literally confirms what I said

Fair enough, but I feel uncomfortable with the idea, MS seem to kill creativeness somehow.. I don't see any evidance they've learned their lesson. Though none of these big business companies seem to be, Nintendo and Sony excluded. Company culture or what ever the reason might be.
Nintendo and Sony excluded? The whole industry is driven by risk assessment. Think about it. Sony is so creative that they are launching with an expansion of a successful game (that was really an updated version of two previously successful Spiderman games), and a remaster of a game that has had several similar style games be successful (dark souls). Then you have their biggest showcase game, Rachet and Clank, which is the 11th game of the series. Nintendo has 100 different Mario games and Pokemon games. Most of the Japanese RPGs out there are still following the same formula, and story's, as they were 20+ years ago. Hell they are releasing FFXVI... 16!!, Lol. There is very little blockbuster creativeness in the videogame industry anymore. Heck my favorite game this last gen was easily Ghost of Tsushima and it was really a hybrid of R2R2 and Assassins Creed.

He's just guessing. Series like the Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Starfield are obviously going to be sold on all the platforms. Wouldn't make much business sense otherwise. Now, the smaller Bethesda games may go Xbox exclusive, but there's no way in hell they make the bigger ones exclusive.

Besides, Hines and Howard have basically confirmed they're still going to publish their own games and make their games available for everyone. Microsoft has basically bought Bethesda for its library and for their Game Pass (meaning, it's a more compelling reason to get future Bethesda titles for free on Game Pass). PS5 and Switch players will have to fork out $70 for their future games..... Xbox players won't.

lol no
If this would be the case, they would just do a similar deal like they did with EA. Or with all the other, like stalker, they would just pay to get their games on gamepass day one.
Why would they pay so much just for day one game pass? Not going to happen.
Again, the future games will be XBOX and PC exclusive. It’s absolutely clear.

Zenimax has a yearly net profit of around 3 billions. In a couple of 3-2 years the investment would be easily returned....
Yeah, but they were releasing on multiple consoles and platforms. If they start becoming exclusive to 1 console, there's no way they're making the same profits moving forward.

I can't see why people did not see this coming, only surprised Microsoft have waited this long to do this, they were always going to make a strong play at some point or other, they just have too much money not to try and buy market share.

Lol people bringing up RARE, because Star Fox Adventures was super good. Not to mention nearly all their games late Xbox and early 360 almost all flopped and bleed money, and then people are upset when they learn Microsoft cancelled some games form them, how many flops did Microsoft have to give rare? Don't forget they are the ones that made Kinect Sports, MS did not make them create Kinect sports.

their generational ways have had them:
Sell more consoles
Have more service subscriptions than MS with PS Plus
Sell more and new successful ip's compared to MS
Have more 10 million sellers than MS when it comes to games
Have more exclusives than MS

That was a time before, the industry is shifting and its not going back even Sony acknowledge that, but are unable to fully commit to it. That is why they are going to be left behind as they simply arent moving with the times and demand of modern gamers. Everything they once had as measuring metrics just changed including their biggest advantage of having games, because that moniker now belongs to Xbox as well.

But you forget the boost it will give to gamepass. And gamepass is also PC and till now it was a low flight. Now it will explode.

Hey guys what’s going on this morning.....?

WTF? Ok that came out of nowhere.

No kidding, I came in and started reading the Xbox OT and out of nowhere comes Xbox buys Zenimax. At first I thought it was some more stupid insider BS like when Sony was supposedly buying them, but then I found this massive thread, I almost passed out.

Such a relief they're going to Xbox and not Sony. BGS especially has always been tied to Xbox and PC with Sony as an afterthought. Doom & Quake originally tied to PC. XGS is just a much better fit.

Halo 5 was well received critically, sold well, and had the most active Pro scene since 3, despite being on a less popular console. Judging a company based off of a pre release game is a poor strategy.
yes and we all know how well received Halo 5 generally was among the Halo Community

I really want them to fight to death. It is only better if there is a big console war. Both sides are trying to be better and more competitive. Right now, series X is looking better for me and not only because of Bethesda

People forget coding for multiple platforms, adding to digital store which is more effort, and disc printing are additional costs.

A 3 million selling Elder Scrolls 6 on an Xbox console would make more money than a 6 million selling Elder Scrolls 6 across Xbox/PS5/Switch/PC.

Microtransactions would be the only differentiation. They would get less than that, but would make more profit per individual sale.

For the MP, fairly well. Better than 4, that's for sure. The general consensus was that It made some changes that made it less Haloey, but was still a really solid MP shooter. The campaign is another story.

Has nintendo been left behind? They have exclusive titles especially all of them are on their own platform unlike how some of sony's are on pc and how is nintendo doing by the way? Didnt a system that came out years later already lap the xbox? Whats one of thee highest selling games this year and generation? Was it Animal Crossing?
Its seems like Sony and Nintendo are doing EXTREMELY well especially money wise, the only one moving goal posts is MS trying to make themselves sound good whilst failing miserably.

Also MS forcing Bethesda games to work on release and forcing more staff per team instead of having a rushed B team code games is beneficial to Bethesda releases, including working with other MS owned studios.

No more controversies about broken games, MS only had one game that had that issue in a major way and that was the first years of HALO MCC collection and that was done using a poor strategy they won't use again.

I feel like everyone's been waiting for the Tsar Bomb out of Microsoft since they launched the Xbox brand. Here it is. Long term this is massive, I'd expect to see Game Pass on Nintendo (as there's already a semi-open relationship here) and may force Sony to look into considering it as well.

Those IPs rake in millions and millions Y^Y. Now just rip Halo away from 343 and give it to ID or some shit.

Yes it does, you don't understand the association costs with producing games for multiple consoles, plus the platform fees and cuts, plus the digital store fronts, plus additional engineering needed among other things.

You actually think when a game releases on multiple platforms theirs no effort or additional costs?

lol.
Yeah and bet you gona said if GTA V become Xbox exclusive and sold like 20 million on Xbox it is more succesful compared to it being multiplat and sold 115 million copy across all platform

Fanboy logic

I have zero interest playing these games on console without gyroscope support which Microsoft doesn't have and developers for playstation have been lacking despite actually having capable hardware. These games were always going to be played on pc from me.

Hardware being what it is, essentially reworked PC parts, it makes most sense for them to make a game on PC, scale it back for XSX and then scale it back again for PS5. And the work involved isn't trivial, but I'd bet $5.00 that 6 million selling across more systems makes more money than 3 million on 1 system.

Now thats some talent!

Xbox is gonna have some major bangers on it here very very soon. 2022 is gonna be crazy year I bet.

Say goodbye to the mod communities. Bethesda didn't mind so much, but Microsoft will probably try to put people in jail over it. Microsoft will turn their stuff into a monetized mess like a lot of other things they touch

I see a lot of either delusional or bitter Sony fans in this thread.

Delusional fans - Thinking Xbox is going to put all their games on the Holy Sony box

Bitter fans - Who are dealing in reality
I don't understand it.

If people are fans of these games, then most of these games are now having a new lease of life. It doesn't matter what box they're on, it's just amazing that Fallout, ES, Prey etc have a chance of getting revamped for the best

Even w/ the boost in Gamepass subscription, they are not making up for the loss of sales for going exclusive. And honestly I wonder about the loss in sale for those games on the Xbox & PC platforms with it's availability day 1 on Gamepass. Having a game on Gamepass may not be the best for overall sales/profits.

Phil 'I don't believe in exclusives' Spencer everybody.

Thats not what he said he said he didn’t like buying pieces of exclusive content to other games, but like everything his words got twisted.
I challenge you to show me a direct quote that says he doesn’t believe in exclusives.

Mods are alive and well for Fallout and Skyrim on XB1 not sure why you would think that would change. It was Sony that limited mod support.

I'm getting Skyrim again on the new Xbox and you can't stop me!

Microsoft having a special Gamepass-only version of Skyrim that's optimized for the XSX/XSS would be a hell of an addition and bone to throw Microsoft customers.

Plus, to rub salt in the wound, Microsoft could put out an optimized version of Skyrim for the PS5 and charge $60 for it.

Apart from Ninja Theory all other studios in XBOX Game Studios basically fit the lineup usually associated with XBOX (I still associate Rare with other type of games, but they're not already).
So long time XBOX fans will be happy and people who prefer other type of games will not care that much.

I wouldn't play TES, Fallout or Doom on console anyway, so PS5+PC is still a good choice.

But XBOX is a very good budget PC on steroids, so for people without PC it could be a good option. Maybe PS5+XBOX could be a viable option for some people now.
