What, why?
What, why?
March 2 comes.
PS4 disc version $30 + free upgrade
PS5 disc version $70.
Which one would you buy?

tie the upgrade to a PSN account via a one time use code and then have that special version require the PS4 disc. Done.
The thing is the upgrade mechanic doesn't use codes like old online passes.tie the upgrade to a PSN account via a one time use code and then have that special version require the PS4 disc. Done.
You could still buy a heavily discounted PS4 copy anyway, couldn't you?
theoretically. But a one time use code would make the PS5 disc version much more appealing as there's a high chance of that code already being redeemed.

Smart delivery vs greed delivery![]()
The same guy's next tweet says it's for physical too.
How can it be redeemed if the copy is brand new? Also, that's not what I was talking about.
The question was "why wouldn't they offer a free upgrade for physical PS4 copies?" and my theory is "because by March 2 PS4 copies will be much cheaper than PS5 copies launch price, and who's going to pay more for the same content?"
I might add: the PS4 version is launching at 59.99 where I live, I bet even if it won't drop a cent that the PS5 launch price will be higher.
Then again, I hope they clarify this mess asap.
SEGA is happy to announce that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be launching on PlayStation®5 in the West on March 2, 2021, following the game's PlayStation®4 launch on November 10, 2020. Once players purchase the digital PS4™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon at PlayStation®Store they are able to download the PS5™ version at no extra cost when it launches on March 2, 2021. The PS5™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also be available standalone on March 2, 2021 for $59.99, with commensurate pricing in EMEA.
For a bit of good tidings, and as mentioned above, the press release does state the PS5 version will retail at $59.99.I might add: the PS4 version is launching at 59.99 where I live, I bet even if it won't drop a cent that the PS5 launch price will be higher.
MS paid for the temporary exclusivity.I don't understand why the PS5 release is 4 months after every other version.
So wait a minute, why is a next gen version of the game launching day ichi on Xbox but not PlayStation? We go from this being a PS exclusive franchise to now getting lesser treatment?
chances are I'm probably completely misunderstanding. Other option would be to package a code in launch copies only maybe?
For added clarity, here is the relevant text from the actual press release, announcing the PS5 version:
So far, it doesn't appear as if any official source has confirmed the notion that physical PS4 copies will also get the free PS5 upgrade; it's just people on Twitter retweeting each other.
This new hardware gen hasn't even really started, and I'm already tired of exclusivity nonsense. Assuming there's no upgrade path for physical PS4, I'll consider getting a next-gen copy for one of the systems, if I manage to find it on a decent sale.

Wait until PS5 disc become $30 or buy an Xbox and enjoy Smart Delivery without this headache for games.
PS exclusive? Sega has been porting the Yakuza games to PC and Xbox for a while now.
It better have one dammitI'm just hoping for a PS5 steelbook edition. Holding off for now since I'll have Demon's Souls and Cyberpunk to play that month.
This is pretty much the only reason that makes sense. Also highlights how stupid it is to buy a digital only console. When publishers have zero competing storefronts you are basically their little bitch, you pay what they say when they say.March 2 comes.

That release date is just trash. It's basically the hardcore PS audience that kept that franchise alive over the years and their thanks is timed next-gen exclusivity to XSX.
Oh well, wasn't planning on getting it anyway since it's turn based.
Every time someone uses this corporate phrase it makes me cringe. It's a crossbuy. Just call it that.Wait until PS5 disc become $30 or buy an Xbox and enjoy Smart Delivery without this headache for games.
