RIP in man, you created some amazing things. If I'm not mistaken DC were going to relaunch Xombi later this year.

Dang, they won't say how it happened

I didn't get into Static Shock until long after it was canceled but I really enjoyed its place in the DCAU

Poorly written article ...doesn't even say how old he was.

This got me too. I went to Wikipedia though and they also don't have listing. Must have been where they got most of their information.

He was one of the best, most consistent and unique voices working in animation. He's going to be terribly missed. The DCAU would not have been the same without him.

Thank you Mr. McDuffie for your amazing work.

Damn my goal was to meet him one day and just shake his hand and say Thank You for being such an inspiration.

This too.

That's sad, and he was promoting All-Star Superman, which was released today. RIP. DCAU are some of my favorite cartoons of all time.

What a loss.

I know everyone points to his Milestone/DCAU work (and rightly so), but I'll always remember him for the solid work he did writing JLA a few years ago. Despite being shoved between higher-profile creative teams and saddled with too many editorial mandates, he still managed to pull decent stories out of a corporate mess. And the one issue where he did get to write fairly freely -- a one-off with Flash and Wonder Woman -- was nearly perfect.

The guy had such solid chops and was so dependable that I think people tended to overlook him.

Over the years, the writer contributed to scores of notable comic book launches and series, always with a keen eye on character, regardless of race.

A much better man than Reginald Hudlin.

Rest in peace. A horrible loss.

Holy shit...I just watched All-Star Superman and saw his name in the credits. I come back here and see that he passed away. He's written and adapted some amazing episodes for the DC animated shows, Static Shock was awesome, his short Firestorm stint was cool, and his Justice League run no matter how much it was plagued by editorial mandates was pretty good.

RIP McDuffie, you will be missed.

Never got over how badly he got screwed over by DC. I liked a lot of his characters(Milestone) and of course loved his animation output.

Such a shocking event. He was a great writer, and as far as I could tell from his interactions with people, a great person as well.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

R.I.P

I didn't read much of his work, but I watched DCAU, and without his contribution, I am sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did.

i hope this leads to some wieringo like memorial pieces. that still depresses me.

RIP

He did a real good job making JLA work while he was forced to tie into the various events DC had going.

Did not expect to see this news when I got home from work. My heart goes out to McDuffie's friends and family. :(

I wonder what the surgical procedure was?

Has to be posted... McDuffie's "pitch" to Marvel for a new series back in 1989.

Calling them out on their approach to new minority heroes, then turning around a few years later and doing it better than anyone with Milestone.
