Milestone was the shit. Shame his last stint in comics was shit on by DC editors. But the industry will be poorer for the lost. RIP

Wow! I met and interviewed him at Comic-Con '06 (I think?). Nice guy.

I'm about to read his JLA story entitled "When Worlds Collide." :(

Thank you, Mr. McDuffie, for everything that you've done for us. And thank you for giving us Static, who in both the first season of the cartoon and the original comic, were still better depicted "black" superheroes than most others that would precede or follow him.

Has to be posted... McDuffie's "pitch" to Marvel for a new series back in 1989.

Calling them out on their approach to new minority heroes, then turning around a few years later and doing it better than anyone with Milestone.
Lol

That's pretty awesome. Initially I was like "I'm pretty sure negro was pretty antiquated even in the 80s." Then I read it and saw it was all in jest. Didn't rocket racer have skates though?

I'm so glad that they got together again despite the shitty past and are putting Milestone books out again. Xombi and Static will still live on.

That's a legacy that goes on hopefully. Those Milestone characters mean a lot to a lot of people.

Thank you, Dwayne McDuffie.

What a loss.

I loved his work on Fantastic Four, since he was the first writer in a long time who understood the book was about knowledge as well as adventure. He worked science into his stories, and it seemed like I learned something new after each issue. His JLA was also very enjoyable--just good, solid writing that respected the reader's intelligence.

Going to miss this guy. Condolences to his family.

I literally finished watching the last episode of Justice league, R.I.P sir. You truly were great, I'm gonna go buy All star superman now.

OMG, Dark Wheelie :lol

RIP man, wish he got a better deal when he was on Justice League, he could have had one of the best runs ever.

R.I.P. :(

No shit. He had a hand in some of the best DC stories with the DCAU and I heard no end of bitching over his actual JLA run. I didn't get it.

Then again more than a handful of DC titles lost their direction for a few years there. I think folks were butthurt over the roster of the Meltzer and McDuffie runs.

Aside from the live-action movies, Justice League Unlimited is pretty much the reason why I started to pay more attention than usual to comics and all the media itself.

Thanks for the memories.

Somebody just reminded me, Boyd Kirkland died a few weeks ago as well. If you buy into that whole "rule of threes" thing, it's not looking too good for the remaining WB/DC Animation alums.

Never forget.

Reading Winick's "Generation Lost" interview with CBR today immediately reminded me of this. Originally Max's revenge plan against Wonder Woman for killing him was going to play a bigger role in the story, but then (of course) he was told he couldn't use Wonder Woman because of what JMS was doing to her. Since his story had already been moving in that direction, Winick had to find a way to still touch upon it before moving on. He even uses the "lemons into lemonade" analogy during the interview.

EDIT: And let's not forget James Robinson, he lost like half of his planned JLA roster to editorial decree because of events happening in other books. It's become the main problem plaguing that superteam.

Damn, I loved that line up and even found a tshirt of them at Kohls last Saturday.

I know nothing of the guy, but anyone who wrote that sarcastic proposal couldn't have been a bad dude.

RIP, seems he successfully put out things of substance that many people enjoyed.

It seems his last tweet mentioned that he was taking a break from a script in order to go to the All-Star Superman premiere. I wonder what that was for.

That's sad. I met him a few times in detroit. He was trying to help kids like me stay off the streets and get into comics. He was a great man... I'm really sad... ill have to post later. This is a lot to take in.

Very sad. He always seemed to have a great passion and enjoyment for his work though, and it showed. He wrote for some of the best pieces of superhero animation that we have.

His Justice League run had loads of potential, but was fucked up at every turn by DC editorial. Even so, there were still some gems stuck in there. If any of you ever happen to come across his Justice League #20, don't hesitate to buy it. Great story, characterization, and art. Easily the best issue of the title since the relaunch.

Did not expect to see this news when I got home from work. My heart goes out to McDuffie's friends and family. :(

I wonder what the surgical procedure was?
LA Times says it was emergency heart surgery.
