Yeah, but it still seems like a petty reason to ban someone. Not to mention it's easy to ignore. People are getting way too sensitive these days. This forum literally accepts damn near anything, but harmless console warring is where the line is drawn? Kind of sad.

the post in a vacuum isn't bad. that it's in a MS thread is slightly bad. that it was done by Bo who has been had so many prior warnings about this is why he was banned.
Bo, you can like the ps5 without bringing down xbox fans

At this point if he gets banned permanently then so be it. Its his own doing . Theres about 10 other users that need the same treatment. Xbox and PS loyalty aside. Maybe im gettin old but the console warring is unbearable. The defensiveness, the shitting up of topics, the drive by posts. Before it was based on specs. At least that was in theory. Now we got the consoles out and people are arguing over who plays a game with 10 frames more per second for a half minute.

Tism. Some people can't help themselves and have to constantly engage in console warring. When they see nothing of value about themselves and have to associate their very existence with a particular piece of hardware, the idea that someone else might be interested in a product or company they don't like is pretty much a personal attack against them.
 
There's probably two types of bans on Gaf.

One where the post makes it evident.
One where the post is just the latest example, if soft, of a trend of behavior the mods are trying to stop.

I love Bo. I do not love that some posters are constantly trying to turn Gaming into Gamefaqs. For the sake of being able to actually read, discuss, and enjoy Gaming Side, the constant tendency of 'recidivism' we've seen among some posters needs to not be left to slide.
 
I've been a moderator many times, there are simple forum tools to spot this kind of behavior. Just like astroturfing.

We already have options to 'not punish' users, but instead force a behavior change by limiting their privileges, but still sometimes they do on porpuse to not be a part of the community.

Dude, for gods sake, he got a history of doing that and was banned countless times as a result. Why people keep insisting that one case is reason enought to be banned?

he didnt enter the topic to tell people to buy a PS5. there was a guy literally asking whether or not he should wait for a PS5 or buy an xss.

had he entered the thread and instead of replying to anyone told everyone to not buy an xss or flight sim, the ban wouldve made more sense.

not a fan of Bo's warring but this seems a bit unfair.

After all his previous bans and warnings, he should just stay out of Xbox threads.

They're all the same but Bo has been given plenty of chances. Allow him to reflect and change, instead of defending his "harmless" warring.

Reddit (not the real one, sadly) was the most nonsensical self-ban I've seen in a while. 'They merged my title from CCP censors GoG, to GoG submits to CCP! Gaf are infiltrated!'

Seeing more Asians out to get him than a Vietnam vet.

The guy was saying he was waiting for both the PS5 and XSX to be easier to obtain before he fully hopped into next gen and was going to get a series S to play Flight Sim.

No where in the topic, that I saw at least, did he ask should he wait for a PS5 or get an XSS? Which wouldn't even make sense to ask considering Flight Sim wont be on PS5. The poster claimed they were "tethering on the edge here" to getting a XSS for Flight Sim.

Why someone felt the need to say "don't panic, get the PS5" which has has no relevance in a topic about Flight Sim is where the ban comes in. Considering the posters history, Especially when it comes to Flight Sim, it makes sense to me. Which is where the "multiple" tag part makes even more sense.

I agree with this. Maybe 6 months or something.

No doubt he's a hardcore PS fan, but he does contribute to those tech heavy threads in good ways explaining things (when his bias hat isnt on).

On the other hand, some warriors post history are literally somewhere probably 97-100% console warrior/defend mode.

Those are the ones that should get short leashes. The world could be getting invaded by War of the Worlds spaceships and people are getting vaporized. Everyone is staying indoors and trying to get info and talk about it in forums what's going on.

And those fan warriors will be posting threads which console has better FPS at a rate of 29.86 vs. 29.62 over a test of 5000 frames.

Well he should have a 3 months ban if you want him to self reflect.
He is probably full of hurt and he is looking for revenge upon reentering.

He will ban himself this way but if he gets a 3 month break he probably will come back anew

Then he would learn nothing from his current ban. He already received the permanent ban warning with two weeks off. He has his time off to reflect. You want to take off the permanent ban warning, then it only lessens the impact of his punishment.

Agreed. I've got no patience for console warring, fanboy nonsense. Threads largely dedicated to warring go on ignore, members who post immature console warring crap go on ignore. I let it get to me the last time I was around here and ended up needing a long break from forums. Not letting that happen again and just making heavy use if ignore feature to curate a better experience as someone just here primarily for game news and OTs for games I'm enjoying.

With all the console warring, whining, complaining and nitpicking everything to death etc. it makes me wonder if most here, and on other forums, Reddit etc even like games. I love them more than ever after 35+ years and have few complaints and those I do have I'm not going to waste time bitching about as I'm going to go back to playing games I enjoy. The hobby is all about having fun and I stay focused on that.

Anyway, nothing really to be done about it but warn and temp worst offenders and perms fir repeat flagrant offenders. That or maybe mare a sub forum for console warring, arguing over sales numbers etc. Whioe that may clean up Gaming, its probably a bad idea as the animosity between fanboys will likely bleed out to other areas.

Just is what it is. From nearly 3 decades on forums etc it's not mystery tnsr the loudest and most frequent voices are no losers with a host of issues and problems tnsr make them miserable and misery loves company. Best the rest of us can do is tune it out or just quit forums and social media.

He's been permmed before if I remember correctly, and even after it was reversed it still didn't change anything. So unfortunately, I don't see a very long temp ban doing much of anything.

My thought process is this:

Two weeks isn't enough for him to learn and to adapt to a life without internet forum squabbles. A longer temp ban would drill the idea into his head better. I don't think this is lessening the impact of the punishment. It's attempting to make it more educational/rehabilitative rather than purely punitive.

Maybe just save the mods the trouble of banning him yet again by extending his current ban of two weeks to a month instead? The fact is, Bo was given plenty of chances already. Most console warriors probably know they can get away with stuff they post, really get away with it because they know they will be able to log in after their ban expires, which is why I think the threat of a permanent ban is necessary.

He was already permed once for:
console warring

He has been banned like 5 times in the last 2 months for:
console warring

And as you said he JUST came back from a ban for:
console warring

He had to be on super thin ice and has been given WAY more chances than anyone else would ever get. It's too bad, he's quite a likable guy when he's not warring, but he takes Sony and the console warz at GAF way too seriously

It might need to be longer than a month.

The longer they stay away, the longer they have to think about their actions, and think about whether it really is worth it or not. Mind you, I'm only offering this leniency to posters who have demonstrated positive qualities in other areas too. Users who have nothing in their post history but console warring bullshit can be purged more quickly.

I was wondering at first, too but then noticed you can't see Xaero Gravity Xaero Gravity is responding to me. I honestly think Jtibh Jtibh is confused, because the original XBOX and Gamecube were both superior for me to PS2, also there's only one person I think I was ever responsible for getting kicked out of a thread... I mean, I don't even know with that but very recently I reported someone from SONY GAF for being too aggressive in a thread and didn't see them post in the thread again, I don't report often, though and certainly can't remember reporting Jtibh Jtibh , would be a shame if I was on ignore over mistaken identity or something.

Some perspective. I was banned from the next gen thread for 8+ months and have still not been allowed back for far less. I have been banned and have still not been let back in to the xbox meme thread for posting a meme.

He has had it coming.

Again it was a long time ago but i can tell you for sure that when i put someone on ignore it has a valid reason.

I put that dirty rodent on ignore as well cuz he was coming at me hard , but sure shit could not recall why.
