Watched "The Goonies" Again Last Night

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Damn, the movie was SO good and holds up incredibly well.

The Goonies was such a classic. I never realized how well it stood the test of time.

Andy was so incredibly hot too.

Hey, how about that soundtrack too?

By soundtrack, both Cyndi Lauper and the score itself.

It even spawned a few games that were actually examples of good liscensed games. Goonies II was one of my very first NES games and one of my favorites.

Like I said, the 80s are real life compared to the cartoon world we live in now. Movies were so good, coming back to back. We took it for granted. We should have savored it more.

Spielberg-o gave us so much goodness too. Even George Lucas gave us not only Star Wars but great shit like Labyrinth.

It really was the Golden Age of movies imho.

I'm biased since I'm an older poster but the 80s is really the best we have have ever had life.
Enough technology to make life easier, comfortable but not so much that you can disconnect from some form of human to human interaction.
Good music, cars, still a notion of men are men, women are women.
I have been watching 80s movies with my teenage kids and 99% of the time they end up saying "how come I never heard of this movie before dad, that was fantastic"

My kids did not like it. They also didn't care for BeetleJuice or Roger Rabbit. Can't blame them.. these movies are like me watching Moses or Ben Hur when I was their age.

90s were better. You had all the stuff of the 80s but tech got just better enough. Also 90s was super edgy and boundry pushing.

But 80s 90s combo was the best. Started going down in 00s and by 10s its been a steep decline.

This is the major zeitgeist movie from that period I didn't like. I've tried to watch it semi recently and still couldn't appreciate it.

90s had it's moments and I do love how offending people was in style but the 90s had rap rock. They took it too far.

I really loved 90s music.

I still find it amusing Mikey's big brother eventually went on to become a genocidal purple alien.

A Goonies thread?! Hands down, my favorite movie of all time - I legit have watched it hundreds of times. I would come home from school as a kid and rewatch it on VHS everyday like some sort of madchild. This went on for longer than I care to admit, but I still love it, despite how many times I have seen it.

I'm sure Chunks folks were thrilled when he just decided to invite A fucking monster to live with them. "You're going to come live with me now.". Great. And just how much do you think those gems were worth? Enough to save the neighborhood? Also, how many 80s movies did kids try to murder each other? They did Brandon like they did Daniel in Karate Kid. 80s was the best for flicks.

Also if you never played Goonies II on NES, do so. It's great and one of the first Metroidvanias.

I would kill to get a Limited Run Games re-release of this game.

This was on sale on iTunes last week and I forgot to buy it. I've still never seen it.
I shit you not.

Goonies legit felt like a live action Disneyland ride, especially Pirates of the Caribbean more than the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

A fuckin' classic and one of my all-time favorite films. I was 12 when this came out in 1985 and I still remember riding bikes with my buddy to the local theater to see a matinee of this and then we hit up the local arcade after. The 80's were the best.

Yeah, Goonies was and is still really good. That and Lost Boys were movies that if i caught on TV at any given point of the movie I'd finish watching regardless of how many times i have done so previously despite owning the VHS's.

The 80ies have been all out amazing.
Everything was at its peak, before it imploded in the 90ies.

Well, these days - especially near the city and all, parents don't let their kids to roam around freely unattended.

I used to play outside with my friends until sun down.. back in 70-80s. No phones, just going around the town, parks, nearby mountain and all.
Everyday was a little adventure made in our heads... because the world felt so open, so many places to explore on our own two feet.

Parents didn't have to set up play date - I just went to my friend's place and yelled from out side "hey - xxxx - come out and play!" and off we went on to our adventures.

Goonies, reminds of those days - the little adventures that we had as kids, fantastically amplified.

Exactly my experience. Well, I guess every 80ies kids experience.
There were some places where kids met. You just went to there, and when a few kids assembled, they went to another place where the other kids met. Often you'd just meet other kids on the outside walking around.

They really don't or can't make movies like The Goonies anymore.

Which just get homages like Stranger Things which just can't compare.

Absolutely fantastic film, had the pleasure of re-watching the other day. They really nailed it with the child acting in this film, everyone is pulling their weight and giving great performances.

loved the Goonies so much as a kid. i think i was lucky enough to see this several times in theater back when they had dollar movies during the summer.

last year i went to visit my friend in Portland and we ended up doing a Goonies inspired road trip. we saw Haystack rock. that was pretty cool:

then we drove to Aurora, the town where they lived. Mikey's house is there but they have requested nobody give out their address due to tourists, so it was hard to find. we did get to go to the jail though:

inside they re-created the fake suicide note from the movie:

Saw it in the theater the week it released, still love it now. One of those movies i look forward to watching with someone who hasnt seen it.
I remember being a ten year old hipster about it. I have seen trailers, and thought this movie isn't cool.
They showed that JareBear kid being an obnoxioues little fucker, and it looked kind of bad.

Then I met some school friends at the bus station and they told me this is the best movie ever, and I need to see it.
So I did. And they were right.

Damn, I miss the 80ies (sometimes).

One of the best movies ever. I swear all of us told stories and went out to "treasure hunt" after watching it. Ah, the imaginations of the 80's before parents stuck tablets into their children's hands.

Spawned great stoner music later in life as well.

I love The Goonies! I need to rewatch it before the year ends, along with my other favorite coming of age 80's teenager movies.

Personally, I think it is a product of it's time and has very outdated attitudes, languages and cultural depictions which causes offence in todays modern world. It should be removed from all TV schedules and from all retailers so this offensive movie cannot be seen by future generations as it may damage their mental health.

People's sarcasm meter is broken so prepare for an onslaught.

Off to Australia you go.

I'm biased since I loved it as a kid and was just the right age for it when it released, but I think it holds up. My son likes it too, which is rare for movies that old. It has just the right mix of comedy and adventure with great performances all around, which is rare with so many child actors.

You are right. This movie is a big yikes. There are generations of kids who have been corrupted by this filth and have wrecked communities because of it. This movie makes so many vulnerable people unsafe.

StaySafe.

Definitely a fun movie; there were a lot of films centered around working class people and their kids in the 80s, I always appreciated that.
