Sony is removing Cyberpunk from PlayStation Store

Sony stocks popped almost 5% after this big balls move! It is above 100 now.

Wtf I was totally wrong, and whoever said Sony attractiveness as a business was dead, is dead.

Damn we should have more faith in the new Sony, they are a beast..:messenger_fearful:

ay that shit's crazy. Sony like "if they won't delay this game to fix it, we will delay it for them, fuck out of here!"

Really can't wait to see what MS do.

I'll tell you what MS will do. MS will buy CDPR by end of next week when CDPR is mired in litigations, and can't paid their loans back to their government.

I can imagine this is linked either to sheer amount of returns overwhelming Sony's bad refund system (41% of 8 million preorders were on consoles so even 5% of that is approx. 160k refund requests), or the fact CDPR tried to phrase the issue as Sony's responsibility on the Monday's call and Sony retaliated.

It's still Sony and MS call whether to list or not. They test the games before release (or are supposed to). And according to certifications, it's not even supposed to be about how good or boring a game is, but simply if the game works, is crash free (or hardly any crashes), doesn't wipe your HDD and things like that.

It's not supposed to be a subjective judgement call on how great the story or gameplay is, but a judgement call on technical stability and bottom line if the game actually works.

Sony and MS turned a blind eye for sales and hoping it wouldn't be a clusterfuck. Which it is.

That's like a new music album coming out and the artist has 12 songs on it. Songs #5, 8 and 10 are buggy as shit. Everyone in manufacturing knows it and even everyone at Walmart or Apple head office knows it. The disc or download data could be totally borked.

Yet, for the almighty sales buck, Walmart and Apple say sell it and we'll roll the dice on refunds.

Sell it first. Ask for forgiveness later. And hope 95% of people who bought it don't give a shit or can't be bothered and just live with it.
I believe certification was called a Technical Requirements Checklist (TRCs) in the past - no idea what they call it now -but I'm not convinced that either platform can block a major publisher from pulling the trigger on a release anymore with the iOS situation in the background.

With the Covid situation straining every facet of financially sound businesses, overstretched publishers being refused store access to release when they financially need to puts a lot of pressure on platform holders to choose between day 1 patching of broken certified games, or potentially killing off business partners, resulting in large numbers of devs being made redundant.

It's your choice.

it's true though, not alot of devs are releasing anything that looks like they are trying to push the medium forward. at all.

1 because it's too risky, and alot easier just to re-skin assassins creed or watch dogs or far cry. so have fun with shitting on the one of the few devs that make the hobby interesting.

Just because the game is bad on PS4 doesn't mean it is bad on other platform.
The PS4 Pro version is literally the best performing last gen version of the game and the PS5 version holds 60fps more often than the Series X version does. The game is a mess on base PS4 and base Xbox One. This isn't a PlayStation issue. It's an issue with all of the last gen versions of the game. The game probably doesn't need to be delisted on PS5 but it's technically the PS4 version and not a separate product on the PS Store.

This is good for gamers- the customer. Especially console gamers which were intentionally misled as they held this copy secret.

Reviewers, do better at informIng your base- not just looking out for freebies.

All of those idiot reviewers on Metacritic who admitted that CP 2077 has an "impressive amount of bugs, glitches and crashes" and still gave the game a 100/100. I can't even....

You guys are being very naive about Sony's motives

They are doing it because: the huge amount of reimbursements requests being sent right now (yeah, way more than No Man's Sky, AC Unity or The Life of Black Tiger)

Its not because they care about bugs or the quality of the game. Its because money, obviously.

And as someone that bought the game on my PS4 digitaly, I'm fucked. But I understand why they did it.

Now I feel kinda obliged to aks for a refund because we wont receive patches anyway, so whats the point of keeping it?

Edit: oh ok, they will keep updating it. We will see.

Yup.. said this...ignored.

Serves CDPR right for releasing such a broken version + plus adding features on XSX while disregarding PS5 version. Putting onus on Sony for refunds while knowing the refund policy of Digital games was a very bad move by CDPR. It was almost like shifting blame on Sony and MS and this led to few days of bad press for Sony. Good on Sony to respond like this

It's a faulty product on PS5 too.

Wow. Good on Sony. I hope this sends a message to others not release broken games. I'm assuming MS will have a hard time doing the same because of marketing, but I hope they follow suit.

If Microsoft had pulled a move like this Gaf would be all 'ANTI-COMPETITIVE MOVE!!!' and chastising Microsoft for going nuclear. I mean...it's not like Sony and Microsoft don't make their own competing games....right?

This is worse than anything Apple has done. The game should have been rejected from the start and never passed PSStore QA/QC if this is the route they were going to go down.

It's hilarious seeing people defend Sony taking this EXTREME action. Why not just detect the gaming system and only block CyberPunk 2077 on rickety ol' PS4's?

Yikes. Makes sense for people playing it on the PS4. sucks for digital PS5 owners where the game runs fairly well just crashes a lot.

This is a mess.

I'm having a great time with the game on PC, albeit a pretty good PC so I'm not seeing many problems at all. But damn this is looking like amateur hour for CDPR ... not good at all

Someone with photoshop skills needs to do mockup of Cyberpunk on the PS Store with accurate pictures lol.
The Management Board of CD PROJEKT SA with a registered office in Warsaw (hereinafter referred to as "The Company") hereby publicly discloses the decision of Sony Interactive Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as "SIE") to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice. The decision was undertaken following our discussion with SIE regarding a full refund for all gamers who had purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund at this time. All copies of the game previously purchased digitally on PlayStation Store remain available for use by their respective buyers. Gamers can still buy physical versions of the game in retail and mail order stores. All copies, whether digital or physical, will continue to receive support and updates from the Company.

The Management Board of the Company has decided to publicly disclose this information in the form of a current report due to its potential influence on investment-related decisions.

End of tomorrow might be a decent time to buy stock lol.

i wouldn't be so confident, besides their next game is years away and their reputation is in ruins they have a lot of work to do to fix their image, the damage is done

you speak as if there is alot of good devs willing to take the risks, and have the talent to take their place.

Like i said, i wish gaming was that good in 2020 but it isn't lol

business move games and rehashes. that's what you guys have to play primarily.

damage doesn't stop them releasing a title that shits on everyone. Like they've done with the witcher 3, and even this in many clear cases IMO. Unless people just decide to shit on the next title they release regardless of the quality lol and at that point we're in a baaad place.

If you really feel this way about CDPR, then I hope to not see you commenting about the game when it's finally fixed on the lowly last gen consoles...

what are you talking about exactly? have you even see the console versions? the fps goes down to 15 fps lol

i loved The Witcher 3 and i played it on PC btw not PS4, so not sure what are you trying to defend here? what they did with the console versions was a scam, why didn't they show footage from it and showed only PC footage and didn't allow reviewers to show console footage? have you seen the meta-critic for PS4 and Xbox versions?

Damn, how the mighty have fallen.

Hope they (CDPR) learn something from this and that customers also finally learn that none of these corporations are their friends. Nah, pigs will fly before any of that happens.

Greedy cunts and stupid people will never cease their behaviour.

So Sony is removing something now that according to their saying should never been on the store in the first place? Who aprooved this, huh?

All Microsoft has to do now is lay low and reap the benefits later with closed relation with CDPR later.

Ehhh, if there's someone who also deserves a dignified response from CDPR too is Microsoft because they had the marketing rights.

Base consoles already holding back next-gen games. It's not the consumer's fault it doesn't perform as described. Should have been PC+Next-gen only, with a possible port next year.

Yikes. Makes sense for people playing it on the PS4. sucks for digital PS5 owners where the game runs fairly well just crashes a lot.

This is a mess.

It has no impact on existing owners who don't wish to refund the game.

They didn't turn a blind eye any more than in the past. Plenty of games crash and still get certified. They certify things like button prompts, epilepsy warnings, that the game doesn't brick the system and a bunch of other stuff. That the game runs at 15fps isn't their concern. You have games like Bro Force or Lichdom on PS4 that consistently ran at 15fps. Cyberpunk is functional and yes there are crashes (like many other games), but nowhere near enough to block it from being certified.

What I'm saying is that you are showing way too much hate for the company that screwed up by releasing the unfinished console versions. Surely they will fix it just like they did W3 (yea, I remember all the whining back then too). Instead of crucifying them to no end, why not give them a chance to fix their mistake before putting final judgement on them. Their rep being ruined forever? Really??

Well, there is no PS5 or XSX version yet.
Yup. I get that some really might not know. But there is only the last gen version out.

That it can run better on next gen consoles is irrelevant. It's still the PS4, XBO version.

Something something Anti Consumer Sony.

In all honesty I love the 10 hours I've played. But I'll take my refund. Even playing on PS5. I'll come back when it's done.
L u do realize sony had media pressure and lots of it...trust me, they are still anti consumer. This wont change a thing.

Deserved, should have never approved it for certification but fair play to Sony, games launch is a slap in the face to fans, a real smash and grab attempt

CDPR rep in tatters

What is Such a small team doing trying to release on every system day one lol, think ps4 and xbox one ver will be cancelled, xsx and ps5 ver in feb me thinks.

If platforms holders are pressured to do it for sake of covid or whatever the Apple issue is, that's fucked up because a minimum standard of quality should be maintained, especially for technical products where it can as basic as turning it on or off to see if it actually works.

And its not like CD is some tiny indie studio who makes a bad buggy game, slips through the cracks because only 500 people in the world will buy it and nobody will notice or care. That's the type of shit a dollar store will sell for $1.

But if let's say Walmart has a section with 10 different toasters to select from 5 different companies, the expectation is that the quality of the toast might be a bit better or worse depending on the model, and each one might be a bit smaller or bigger.

But the minimum standard should be it actually works and the heating element doesn't crash every 5 minutes requiring you to unplug it, plug it back it and give it another go. And if it's this bad, the retailer should take it off shelves and get the supplier to take them back.

And if Walmart doesn't want to test things then they have an obligation to do so.

What people don't know is that the big retailers have their own testing facilities (Costco is a big one). They will come back to your company after doing their own lab testing and tell you if you are lying with a broken product or have false claims on the label. I know because I've seen it.

The main problem here is at least on Xbox (and Sony may have stated this as well), everything was supposed to run on the new and last gen hardware. Sure enough, right out of the gate something doesn't. It makes you wonder if they'll change this policy.

I don't really see this as a good thing. Cancel culture and lazy consumers are now emboldened. It would have been a valuable lesson for people to wait for reviews or accept their fate with their purchase. (only half-serious).

If they're going to do this then in the future they should have standards in place to catch this before it happens.

My tin foil hat theory is, they're actually removing it until CDPR fixes the bug that lets your character be full nude in gameplay and photomode (confirmed to not be intentional). I imagine Sony is seething about it right now.

*back to playing Cyberpunk*

Why should anyone give them slack for delibertly hiding how bad the consoles ran?

And no W3 was nowhere near this bad

The main whining about W3 was because of the stupid downgrades

exactly otherwise they would've taken down fallout 76 among many other games. cyberpunk isn't in THAT goddamn bad shape to where they would do this because of that.

jesus, but see how quickly this will be turned into it being: "CP's quality is sooo bad, sony had to take it down!"

this little thing that's happening right now with this game, is probably the most divided I've felt from the community like....ever lol

but apparently there is a big divide regarding this game. it's not all negative.
