Skullgirls (2D Fighting Game) Announced for XBLA, PSN

animation looks very good

Look around Youtube, I believe I saw an interview (or maybe I read it on their old site) where they discussed the animation technique they concocted for the game. It sounded really neat. Sorry that I cannot remember if it was video or text.

Been following this game for a while now.

Oh hey, it's Morrigan and Lilith, right? Right?
Yes. Also Tinkerbell, Inspector Gadget + Penny, a Headless Horseman, the girl from The Ring, and the Corpse Bride (not sure who the bottom right is). Game characters can't wear costumes on Halloween? :(

This was shown in one of the Evo streams right? I recall MikeZ showing it off somewhere while I was stream monstering. Good to see that this game is still alive and actually coming out. Thought it was going to be vaporware, honestly. I'll definitely try it out when it's released.

Will support Mike Z on this.

Cool to see a western indie fighting game make it on console digital stores

Interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about the art but I definitely support more HD 2D stuff and if the game plays well then I can see myself enjoying it.

Man, I wonder what larger game developers say when they see small projects like this get ripped to shreds. The animation is good, and it looks like they put time into the backgrounds and fighting system. This definitely doesn't look like a half-ass game, and it looks to be a project that will be completed and released. I'm not that big into the Versus style of gameplay, but I'll give it a try.

Oh, and let me ask, how is it that a game like Miner Dig Deep will get heaped with praise, and this game that hasn't even been released yet is getting blasted? Because of the artist's choice of art style? Seriously?

Pretty much.

Only thing I can pick out is that I don't see the difference between blocking and getting hit.

Perhaps they could change the particle effects to better separate the two? Even better, make them visible at all!

This is the realization of PSN/XBLA for me, granted XBLA has been doing this longer than PSN, but it's finally nice to see more new content with a bit of effort put behind the development finding a release platform on the digital distribution channels. This is what I wanted from square one.

A haven for indie developers and new games and ideas to thrive.

And I'm not kidding, the Vanguard Princess guy needs to port the game to 360 at the very least. I want to try it dammit! >:|

Animation looks really good. Great even. Art doesn't seem to bother me like everyone else here. Graphics look crisp and seem to get the job done. Hopefully it plays well though. Will definitely check it out.

I know one person working on this so it makes me sad to see so much negativity.

It's the internets dude. If it isn't a Capcom fighter shit gets hated on for some reason. Check the article threads over at SRK for non Capcom fighters. It is even worse than here. You would think people would want to support the fighting game resurgence as a whole instead of just the game they play. People are stupid. This thread is proof.

Alex Ahad is a fantastic artist, y'all can go to hell.

Though I do find fighters with all-girl casts so be a little skeevy, conceptually.

I think it looks pretty interesting. Not as flash as MVC of course, but the animation is pretty fluid. Depends on price if I'll get it.

Looks much better in the gameplay vid than it does in the trailer. Completely changed my mind about it. I think the fault is more with how that trailer is put together than the quality of the actual game.

Kinuko of Mecha Fetus is the one who did the animations for the game. She worked on the Scott Pilgrim game alongside fellow Mecha Fetus members Paul Robertson and Persona. I've always been a fan of their work so perhaps I'm biased, but I think the game looks lighthearted and awesome.

Mike Z knows his stuff and I've been a fan of o_8 for a long time... plus the animation looks very slick since they actually captured the dynamic feel of Ahad's art with it.

I remember reading that interview that TTOB's talking about and was really impressed with the technique they came up with. Pretty sure it was on their website when they still had a lot of hiring notices, but they've since redesigned all the sections so... *shrug*

I'll definitely give the game a shot since I'm all for supporting more indie development of my favorite genre and I trust the visuals and gameplay to turn out well with the team behind it. Disappointed that it has to be an all-girl cast though, hopefully they decide to branch out and develop some male characters.

Honestly I'm surprised at how much hate is in here especially when GAF is always crying for more sprite based 2D HD games. It's one thing to not like the art style but the other videos show that the developers clearly know their shit gameplay wise. Weird.

Mike Z and O_8 are getting my support when this game drops. They've been working on this game for awhile now. Happy they got their baby on XBLA/PSN.

I really thought their game was only going to be on the PC when it was in its really early stages. Thats good the team got something bigger out of it.

It's great to see a new IP 2D fighter coming to DL services, even better that it's an independent effort. Gotta give them some credit for also making it onto XBLA, with it's limited release slots, and the increase attention from big-name publishers on the service.

The art is actually sharp and quite well drawn. I personally would prefer a more well-rounded cast of males and females, but eh, what ya gonna do.

I like the comic style thing for the Debut trailer, as well. Hopefully, that makes it into the game for story mode or something. The tag-team aspect looks pretty nice, too. Wonder if these guys could get GGPO netcode as well...

I dunno if thats the reason. Havent seen any KoF, GG, or Blazblue negativity here. I want to say Dissidia counts too.

That being said, Skullgirls looks really nice in action.
