Happy Easter?

Do people realize Easter is a religious holiday or is it just Christmas Jr. to a bunch of parents who want to spoil their demon spawn with a bunch of useless trinkets?

The vast majority of people I know who acknowledge it are religious. The few who aren't might set up an easter egg hunt in the back yard and give their kids some candy, but it's not really a major holiday for them. It's similar to something like St. Patrick's day in that you might do something small to celebrate it, but that's about it.

If you're treating it as a major holiday, you're more than likely acknowledging it's religious significance.

I don't even associate Easter as being a religious holiday these days. It's a couple of chocolatey bank holidays.

I don't celebrate it personally. I can't think of a dumber way to celebrate a zombie god coming to life than with chocolates and eggs. You people need to rethink your holidays.

Happy Easter!

My family celebrates Easter as the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Here's one of my favorite paintings of the women who discovered the empty tomb.

It depends.

Happy Easter bro
Happy Easter.

I was pretty drunk last night and one of my friends was showing me pictures of the ridiculous assortment of toys and candy their kids got, like, beyond craziness, hundreds of dollars worth of candy and toys, and I know they're not even religious.

Imagine ripping the piss out of the 'other' fellow in his thread (PBUH) and having this kind of reaction...

Good Friday is the most religious day for Christians, Christmas (stolen off Pagans apparently) has nothing on GF.

Most christian myth is just old stories with new characters. All of the holidays are nonsense. Hopefully we move past that someday.

Actually no.

Manuscript evidence for even the 'oldest' religions are more recent than the life of Jesus. The Krishna myth can be dated to between the 4th-6th century. Zoroaster manuscript evidence didn't come about until the 13th century.

Hopefully you've done more research on this than just watching Zeitgeist: The Movie.

Because i think it's a lie. I can have all of the things that religion offers in my life without believing in souls and an omnipotent, omniscient creator.
You sure about that ?
Why come into a thread then, just to look down on people that celebrate this holiday?

So far so good. The thread started as a question to why/how people celebrate the holiday so far as I understood the op.

It was originally a celebration of the spring equinox. I like springtime.

So you would rather celebrate some unknown pagan festival?

On paper, Easter should be THE Christian holiday. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which is, kinda, the whole point of Christianity as a religion. But in reality it's definitely a second-class holiday, I guess due to calendar and commercial reasons established in time.

Holidays are basically the only reason many workers and students in the world still have days off during the year. You want to work all day, every day? You want school to never close between September and June?

The arrival of spring is a tangible, real thing. The story of the resurrection is not, imo.

I think we can still have holidays, and days off(?) without a god.

"Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen!"

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."

God bless you all! I hope you and all your loved ones are healthy and have a blessed day. ♥️

They're called HOLIdays for a reason. Justin Trudeau and other people born on December 25 better start working on their miracle game if they want to be the reason we have holidays in the future. It will take a few centuries to replace Christmas with Carl Sagan Day and Easter with Elon Musk Day.

In the meantime, good luck finding another reason to convince people to spend billions in food, toys and shit in December more than in any other period of the year. Something tells me that our atheist corporate overlords wouldn't like holidays to be cancelled in their lifetimes.

Arbor day is a nice holiday. I take that one off.

That's an interesting point, considering almost all of the disciples and known eye witnesses of Jesus' resurrection were martyred for claiming it happened.

I wonder if they'd have done the same if told to renounce that spring comes every year...

For whom? The good thing is their freedom to say otherwise.
As it is mine.
Billions could disagree with me and I'd still be fine with it.
Sure , you do you.
Still not sure why you had to post in a Easter thread if you don't believe anything about it, hopefully we move past that one day.

Depends on if they claimed it was because of the Earth rotating around the sun I suppose.
