What will Returnal score?

I predict it will be overrated 85 to 90 due to a lack of more exclusive games at the current time, but if released on other systems as exclusive, it would be in the lower 70 to 75 range.

Gonna say 70s might be one of them that price comes up as a value package.

Nah mate 70 to 90 is practically guaranteed! The videogame press are soooooooo predictable (And therefore almost useless!)

Check out Housemarque trackrecord!

I will bet a massively embarrassing avatar of your choice!
Sorry, I'm not sure what you are trying to point out with the metacritic scores? Also, I myself had a guess of high 70/low 80, which fits within your own expectations. Though I will say (having played most of those games listed) that any good reviews for past games have been warranted imho.

The game looks ok and definitely not worth the $69 MSRP Sony is asking for. I would estimate it will be in the 70s somewhere. It looks totally average.

I'd bet something below Ghost of Tsushima.
It'll be seen as a game with interesting concepts but ultimately lacking in content and story.

I hope its higher than 70s-80s but they arent selling anything in the trailers that makes this feel like it will be.

84.

Could be higher, people are really thirsty for games right now and you'll see that reflected in review scores.

I think the narrative element of the game will make or break the game. The gameplay looks fantastic but if the story is lacking and not engaging I would expect the game to score somewhere in the 70s to low 80s. If they nail the story elements probably in the high 80s.

Also for the people mentioning price as a factor to affect reviews, it's not like Returnal is the only game priced at £70. It's the standard for next-gen games. Should all reviews for other games also be lowered because they cost a bit more?

I think it will be low 80s, but by the end of the ps5 life people will consider it a mid 70s rated game.

80-90. Housemarque for the most part has been a solid developer. Their games are rarely great and almost never bad.

Well I guess my point was you don't need to have played the game to predict the press metascore🤷‍♂️

I just really hope if it's good it doesn't take a hit because of the recent Sony hate bandwagon that some journalists might jump on.

This industry doesn't need another example of why to be hesitant giving up-and-coming developers the budget for a AA title.

I voted 80 - 90, but given the random levels it would probably be a 70 for me (assuming everything else is great).

I have the same stance for open world games.

I'm waiting for Kena which is another example of AA game... It looks amazing

I think it will sit between 80-90.This game looks like it has amazing addicting gameplay.Reminds me of dragons dogma which has amazing gameplay you could kill the cyclops for the 100 time and it was still great fun.

Not many Sony games miss the 80 mark.

I'm guessing high 70's, however I think we may be surprised and get a low 80.

It stars a gay female. Journalists will love it.

Hard to say. Im sure it will be a good game but now that the games media has been on "Get Sony" mode they may let some of that bias seep through into their reviews.

because it's exclusive to sony

Not really.
I think its just a different kind of game, and certain reviewers who are expecting one thing and get another will pan the game for really weird reasons.
Stupid shit like "too many bullets" or some such.

Fully expecting to be disappointed reading the reviews then playing the shit out of the game whenever I can get a PS5 :(

I doubt reviewers care about the price. I'll say low 80's and it will depend of how easy/frustrating the game is considering it's a mix of bullet hell/roguelite.
Roguelike kills it for me.
I feel that many reviewers will be looking at this game through "it costs 80€" optics and this will bring the final score down..
...so I expect scores between 72-77
That would amazing for a bunch of people who led gamers to buy buggy games like cyberpunk 2077 not too long ago.
Any review that mentions price should fuck right off.
Yup, they don't care about bugs... Yet price has become an issue?

The more conspirational side of me thinks that MS may be paying some of them to throw in a good word for GamePass (this is how "grassroot" marketing works).

Either way, a review is always a point of value for whoever watches it, they want to know if they could have more "fun" for their bucks... Given all the actual free games we get on playstation, the free ones on Epic, etc. Value has taken a whole other meaning.
