Main gas pipeline from Texas to East Coast shutdown by ransomeware. East Coast GAF, are you still able to get gas in your area? Has the price gone up?

Sorry if there's a thread on this already but I didn't see one. Pretty crazy stuff that hackers can just do this shit. Somebody fucked up though for them to gain access I'm guessing. For those of you on the East Coast have you been affected yet?

South Florida here. Not a problem yet as far as I know. But I gas up like once a month and my wife just gassed up on Sunday.

Shoudl probably stop plugging in those company's into the internet.

Man if this panic spreads to the west coast I am going to start flipping tables. People are dumb so I am a bit worried.

Most of our fuel come from the south like Louisiana or Houston. I have not seen a change in anything yet as far as prices or lines go. But I wonder if I should work from home so I can conserve fuel incase the stupidity spreads to my area.

Found on twitter. From my 10 second search this seems about right but it could be fake.

Gas is 2.89 in my area here in Texas.

Luckily I drive a hybrid or else this would suck way more.

I like how the headlines tried to get ahead of this by downplaying the situation and saying supplies wouldn't be impacted for days.
Was this a failed Jedi mind trick to try and stave off hysteria, or people don't understand simple math.
Or maybe it's a combination of factors. I heard there's a lack of fuel drivers so it takes a longer amount of time to get a station replenished, so they're running lean on inventory, but when there's a surge in demand then they'll run out.
Guessing something like this will be happening during the summer all over the country.

You trolling me?

Still weird but if its normalish then it looks like social media is being used to create a panic..... again.

Yeah man. Hurricane Season is coming. If you ain't got a genny, life sucks. Where I live if you are on city sewer you got a sump pump....that requires electricity. You need to power your fridge too.

I went 14 days once with now power, not toilet. It's not a fun time in the hot humid Florida summer.

Northeast ATL suburbs here... I drove my truck for a fill-up yesterday night and by the time I left the gas station it looked like the beginning of an apocalypse movie. People already cutting each other off at pumps and looking all wild-eyed. Glad I was strapped. Some folks looked about ready to fight over gas tanks.

People are fuckin' animals once the slightest inclination of loss of power hits.

I appreciate the context.

I think we have reached the point of no return. It has reached enough people about the shortage that people are panic buying instead of being reasonable. What was probably a minor issue will now become much bigger as social media spreads all these stories.

Why do you have shit like this plugged into the internet?
It's not technically plugged into the internet, all these kind of infrastructure networks are usually on secured intranet networks. The problem is that if a terminal connects to both the intranet and the internet it creates a vulnerability, even if they're not connected to both at the same time. if the terminal in question , which can often be a laptop, connects to the internet at some point, a backdoor, a key logger or other malicious tools can be installed and then used to eventually access the intranet.

Have they not seen die hard  they were warned! Also gas here in California has been at 4+ for a while now .....

I don't know how we can discuss this story with Evilore's no politics rule, so I'll just say this sucks and it's a total failure.

Last night was the first time I've had to sit in a 20 minute line for gas. Hated it. And of course the asshole in front of me was filling up like 10 gas cans too. Hey asshole, people like you filling your cars and multiple gas cans are why these stations are going to run out.

Can you blame that person? When there is a failure in the system like this, people are only going to look out for themselves.

Is this a like a re-upload? I could have sworn I saw this video a few years ago.

Either way, man that is scary and dangerous.
Totally could be. Sad thing about Twitter is that we don't know when videos were shot.

All the pics going viral could be from stuff completely unrelated as well. That's why it's good to get first hand accounts if at all possible.

Just what we need, another frenzy like the toilet paper frenzy of 2020. People are crazy. You would think they would not have anyplace to store all of the horded gas, but this thread is proving me wrong.

Bring on Interstate 76.

In my town the gas stations are out and the price jumped .30 since Saturday. I told my family when I saw the news Sat that they should fill up, but nooooo.
