Main gas pipeline from Texas to East Coast shutdown by ransomeware. East Coast GAF, are you still able to get gas in your area? Has the price gone up?

It’s here in NC and it fucking sucks. I am on E and couldn’t get to a gas station yesterday because I was at work. After work? Nowhere to be found. I went to half a dozen stations. Nothing.

Why do people do this? Why do they freak out and hoard shit? And I guarantee you it’s people that have the time to go and buy extra containers to put gas in. People that are either retired or on unemployment. They ain’t going anywhere.

There is definitely some panic buying here in southeast ga. Lots of people filling up their tanks and fucking 55 gallon drums and all kinds of shit. We didn't learn shit from the tp shortage of last year.

Central Florida, lines were full at every shell I went to. Tried again this morning and got some, V-Power 93 was 3.80 per gallon. We need offshore drilling back.

Filled my tank up a few days ago outside San Antonio as soon as news started breaking of a possible shortage. $2.55 a gallon.

People don't learn because they don't consider the fact that THEY are the hoarders.

"I need to stock up before the hoarders do!"

It's the same fallacy with traffic. "I'm stuck in traffic!" No, motherfucker, you ARE the traffic!

Those hoarding gas do realize there’s laws on the amount of gas you can keep stored depending on the proximity to their house? Hefty fines involved for exceeding the amounts.

Local governments be like…

Who am I kidding nothing will come of it.

I have a theory that this panic on social media is driven by bots.

- #gasshortage was trending all day yesterday and then removed sometime last night. All night nothing was trending and even into the morning.
- Now #gasshortage2021 is trending out of nowhere and if you look at the new post being made they seem to be bots.
- People see the hashtag trending and normal people jump on the bandwagon.
- This spreads to real people who then panic buy.

If we didn't have social media none of this would be happening.

It’s insane that NC is hit with like double the shortages compared to all the surrounding states.

Is there a particular theory why NC seems to be suffering the most from this shortage compared to other states so far?

My first guess would be they have a population that, for reasons I don't know, seems more easily swayed by social media nonsense than surrounding states.

You can blame the people all you want, but this wouldn't be happening if we had our elected officials show some actual leadership so we never got into this mess in the first place.

It was only a short time ago we were entirely energy independent and we were a net exporter. Heck, last year our export of oil was a record high.

Looks like this is not ending anytime soon, at least for this pipeline. Hopefully back up plans have been put in place to get gas to the places that need it.

No not swayed by social media, we panic with small snowstorms too. Little ice on roads, shutdown the schools lol

Recent history dating back to Hurricane Hugo, since I've been in the area. Any sign of something like this people would hoard/panic buy.

It's not technically plugged into the internet, all these kind of infrastructure networks are usually on secured intranet networks. The problem is that if a terminal connects to both the intranet and the internet it creates a vulnerability, even if they're not connected to both at the same time. if the terminal in question , which can often be a laptop, connects to the internet at some point, a backdoor, a key logger or other malicious tools can be installed and then used to eventually access the intranet.
You did this, didn't you.

Precisely.

Which makes me wonder if this wasn't a targeted attack.

Seems odd/random for this to happen.

I had to get gas in Miami this morning since I had around 25% left. Gas station was more packed than normal but I didnt have to wait. They only had 93 left for $3.99 which was fine with me since my car only takes premium. I think all the hoarders already got their gas yesterday

I work in transportation. Can't get any drivers to hit the road on the east coast out of fear of being stranded. Southeast has been a dead zone all day.
