I used to hate it, but by now I see its usefulness. It is one of the many signs to nope out of giving too much thought on comments using it.

I'm glad common sense prevailed here, Rivet is amazing how she looks. This all seems like a big internal discussion about the way forward (like in every company ) the bosses wanted something else but in the end, they didn't end up forcing it down the throat and listened to the feedback. I mean there is nothing bad in having a big discussion about something like this and like I said I'm glad common sense won.

Got to say I love the games industry.
No other industry has so many industry people acting and look weird, and airing out dirty laundry for clicks, attention, turning work into politics and publicly backstabbing coworkers and bosses. The guy might as well make it easy for the rest of us and name those people.
As I've said many times, game companies and their workers are like the wild west. Even in 2021.

Good that he speaks up the and takes a stand against the absurd portration of women that have gone and are still going on in games over the years. I think the characters should reflect what the game is about. Always cringe to play games like Dark Alliance 2 where women have absurd character models. This thread shows that gaming as an industry has a lot of work left to clean up the pubertal boy fantasy character design.

nah mate it shows that most of us can see through the bullshit purple haired gender politics, ignore it and play the fucking game as a game, the character was deliberately made more feminine because 99% of the fucking world still recognise females as females and we associate curves with women. I personally thought it was a class design, the character from any reviews i've read has been positively praised so wingnut here has just made an utter tool of himself like most of the loons on twitter.

It's pretty obvious game companies dont make employees go through mundane mandatory Code of Conduct workshops and online training programs like at places I've worked at.
Badmouthing people in public (in this case he didnt mention names so technically it's vague) can actually be grounds to be sued if someone can prove their name is being trashed when it comes to getting employment.
That's why some companies or people decline giving references because if you say something bad about someone killing their chance at scoring a job, that applicant finding out you trashed their name can sue you. All it takes is them proving your negative comments were untrue or totally overstated and you're potentially liable. You dont even have to say anything bad. You can say something inaccurate. That's why some people dont want to hassle and will only confirm something like "Yes, Bob worked here from 2007-2015 as an Analyst. But thats all I can comment on"
Of course, it's not like the typical video game employee with their prized Twitter account would know any better.

I wonder if anyone has bothered talking to any women about this. Going by western gaming you'd think women in the year 2021 are actually ashamed of their curves and only like pants, leather jackets and sneakers.
But at the end I just wonder what happened to the "It's just pixels" thinking. Curves on a space rat should be no more upsetting than watching in slow motion when a chopped off head is flying away from a body gushing blood out the neck after a critical hit.

There's something about video game employees where they might be good at art and making games and such, but they have this weird mentality like they have no idea whats proper to say or do. Its like zero code of conduct policies, badmouth people on Twitter, and intertwining work, politics and personal life into one public profile. Like they are all 40 year olds acting like 8 year olds.
Even athletes and celebs dont do this unless it's a high level thing like BLM or Weinstein scandals which both affect tons of people.
But game employees air out petty things from whatever millionth meeting they have during a month.

Either you make them indistinguishable by nature and both characters are androgynous or you want to differentiate the male and female with common biological charcteristics, that make it evident. Differentiating the female with like white-ish/lilac-ish fur is just as bad of a cliche, or implementing anime eyes and jaw.
I don't understand his tweet chain though. Did he leave because he lost the argument, or was a compromise reached? It's pretty obvious that Rivet is a female character because of the standard choices that get made to illustrate artistically that the character is a female (even when non human). Did anyone not know the Cadburys rabbit wasn't a female? There was no T&A there.
In summary, the tweet is just there to self inflate this dude's ego and he is fishing for praise for being woke. When most people just look at it as a work dispute, probably guided by marketing and other stuff that affects the bottom line. The kind of shite we do every day in work but ultimaetly get over ruled by the strategic stuff. It's called being an adult. You want that freedom, start your own studio - that's what the free market is. If all these twitter people are sales then it will be easy.

Who knows what happened in those meetings, but there's one thing about creative people (artists), is that they are stubborn and dont like doing rework if possible.
I see that all the time in our marketing department who work with ad agencies and third party companies to do art work. We hire them to do a job. No doubt they can chime in with their view on what it should be or improved upon, but if we (the authority figure who approves) wants to change something and do it how we want, then do it.
Dont push back or stonewall us. If the marketing coordinators or packaging people handling the execution with you says change it, do it. Dont be an ass and require the marketing directors or VP to pull rank and say change something. And don't piss back or give attitude sticking to your guns or resubmitting half assed work. Just do the changes as asked by us. The marketing dept has the money and they are the ones who have detailed survey results and history what works and doesn't. A guy being told to make art based on guidelines is going by what he thinks works.

The funny thing about the Twitter guy is he doesn't support the other employee's view on stereotypical feminine straits like curves and tits, yet the character is pink and purple which is totally chick colours. And the mouth and eyebrows are smaller so they arent huge like Ratchets when in reality they can be equally sized between men and woman. Rivet even has earrings which is a stereotypical female trait, while Ratchet doesn't when in reality it can be the reverse. Rivet even has a tuft of hair to ensure people know she's female because women are expected to have more hair on their head. Even Rivet's feet are smaller.
In other words, hips and tits not acceptable. Anything else that feeds stereotypical female traits is a-ok.

I skimmed the guys twitter to see what it's like.
It's mostly politics and corporate clash based messages, tons of retweets and he had one tweet bragging about how his salary has jumped from company to company (he even states how much he made at each place) and "it's about getting PAID".

I have not played the game so I can not speak for all of them but one of the suits have slight differences between the Lombaxes.
Rivet's suit has a wider (to take her hips into account) and thinner "belt" and a smaller codpiece.

We don't know the original design (if there was another) or how the art and game director pushed their idea (to look more feminine); presumably they would show some concept art or several and then discuss on those and/or making new ones or changes. The art could have been ridiculous or oversexualized (the actual oversexualized kind, not the one on this dude's mind) for all we know. It's not too likely considering the rest of the art direction, but yeah, it could have been.
Still the meeting happened, and the topic was up for discussion. According to him, he and a few of the women in the meeting argued against it.
He presents the discussion as an example of a hostile environment and, admittedly, he threw a tantrum towards the end of the discussion.
