BREAKING: Sony is acquiring Bungie for 3.6b

To people saying it's a panic or rushed buy, how long do you think it takes to put together a deal worth a few billion?

If you live in the real word, these things are rarely straightforward and rushing is the last thing you want to do.

.......Bungie? Now? and for what price? what are they smoking? This feels 99.9% reactionary and more of a "oh YEAH well look at THIS" move than something that would be actually good for the future of PlayStation.

yeah they sorted out a $3b deal in the space of 2 weeks as a reactionary measure.

jesus

You have no idea what Bungie have planned. Sony don't just throw cash away unless they see value in the purchase.

Sounds like Sony outbid MS which is ironic.
It also sounds like a defensive strategy from Sony. The games will remain multiplatform but at least Sony won't lose their games. That's what this was all about most likely.

That said...Sony now owns Bungie. MS owns Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. lmao

Man, talk about predictable posts.

It's a nice get but just because it isn't a giant company there's the obvious downplaying.

I don't care that much about Destiny but I could see them making a new killer IP. Sony doesn't waste their strength and it's hard to argue this not being a power move.

Yes, it's not them buying EA, Ubisoft, or Lake Titicaca.
Lmao in no way is bungie a better get then bathesda it's a good get for Sony they can definitely deliver them a good shooter but don't be ridiculous.

Why though? They've already announced they are staying multiplatform & only have 1 relevant IP.

Sega or anybody else really would've been much better if they were trying to offset the loss of Activision.

Yes and it cost $70 Billion to do that!!!!
But there again there was a seemingly clear goal with regards to big money-makers that are currently generating massive revenues they could control. Bungie just has what, Destiny? Does that make money? I mean, I guess Sony thinks they maybe can do something with them, but it seems like a big gamble otherwise.

Bought one studio for half of what the entire Bethesda portfolio was? Maybe they can make a kick ass exclusive game for Sony and keep Destiny multi-platform.

What? That doesn't even make sense. What's the point in buying them then?

Bungie is lying about something obviously! Like you said, if literally nothing changed, then why would Sony spend $3.6 billion? There's something they aren't telling us.

Without Halo Bungie isn't worth $3.6 Billion with $3 billion in their pockets

Joking but I don't think Destiny made a lasting impact yet this would have been big if they own the Halo IP .

Big difference Microsoft actually owns crash and halo. Which is the important part you're leaving out.

Hopefully they turn bungie around, havnt been the same since they left Microsoft, just shitty that MS wanted them to make halo all day everyday, but with whats happened with marty and there culture turning sour, explains destiny 2

Bruh. BRUHHHH xD

This is like a reality TV show at this point, but I love. Props to Sony and Bungie, hopefully this means Bungie can either bring Marathon back or take a crack at Killzone.

Sounds to me like they could be getting acquired by someone... I don't think they would halt Sony shares for them acquiring someone else, but we shall see.

Oh....uh, well that's...odd? Dunno if this means anything concerning, then again I don't follow the stock market.

But why? They could have bought Sega or Konami for that...

Still one of the top FPS devs in the market, an area Sega nor Konami have any real experience in. Also I think both of them (particularly Sega) would've gone for more than $3.6 billion as there'd likely be other suitors shopping to buy them, driving up the price.

If Sony wants to expand into more MP-orientated markets a developer like Bungie is a strong one to get for that type of thing.

I think each corporate buy will cost more and more, relative to what the dev or publisher is worth now. The price is going up now for everybody POST the Zenimax purchase.
Yeah, Microsoft kind of set valuation by buying Zenimax. Though Zenimax purchase with ALL their backlog and I.P. was much better deal as far as what the investor would get.

Based on that interview, sounds like Sony want access to what Bungie have developed for their own expansion. They talk of bungies tools and running of live services and wanting to integrate them with their IPs. It's like they are going to use them specifically to support that direction of their strategy.

Same deal as Bethesda/Activision probably, any games that may have already been pitched/announced internally to the console makers as SKUs will probably get honored where contracted.

Anything new after that won't be multi-plat.

But why though? All they've done is Destiny over the past 12 years. Bungie's glory days are gone.
Think of all the games you could make with 3.6 billion dollars.
Destiny is a cashcow and is in a great spot atm. Its the best feeling shooter on the market and hovers around 1 million daily players. Hopefully Bungie uses this money to build out their teams and improve future content releases.

It's most likely playstation and pc

oh yeah smile GIF by Collider

I thought they are talking about Destiny 2 stuff only.

Meaning the new expansions or whatever-related to Destiny 2 will still be multiplatform

not everything else.

"
Q. Bungie has future games in development, will they now become PlayStation exclusives?
No. We want the worlds we are creating to extend to anywhere people play games. We will continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community."

so quickly to stand corrected !! lol.

ok wtf . what is the point of spending this much money then ?

I still do not see them releasing games on Xbox. honestly zero logic.

Maybe Spencer have to call Sony like Sony have done with COD

I dont think Xbox will be threatened by this move at all.

They must of expected some reaction from sony.

A future where all major pubs and devs are aquired is looking more and more likely.

Well, that's one hell of a get and well worth the price. Destiny is huge and Sony now has a big FPS to call its own. I wonder what they mean by multiplatform, if it's the usual PS4+PC or truly multiplatform (including Xbox).

Also, I wonder if Sony will try to use Destiny 3 to get Call of Duty games.

I never said that. Nor do I disagree either. Nor do I care for Bethesda or Activision like I did 15 years ago. I've not strayed from that opinion.

Bungie isn't nearly as big nor is it meant to be. It's a good business move and that's it.

Makes sense, they need a studio that knows how to make a blockbuster shooter. You can't do much better than Bungie I suppose.
