The game is nowhere near as big or open or free, far easier to squash bugs in a sandboxy game over a full fledged open world rpg.

I don't remember having a single bug in the first one.

It's fine if you're satisfied with this CGI trailer, but i'm not. I want to see more of the game, like a proper state of play, and i' think most of us want this, and even except this.

Sure, it sucks. It's not the way any of us wanted this announcement if we could have had a showcase instead.

My guess is that they were coming close to a booking deadline for the game because of all the physical editions. (Today is "Release Date'palooza", but mostly for weird reasons that aren't the same as GoW, outside of maybe quarterly calendars coming due.)

The rumor was that they had plans to do this better last week through maybe a State of Play (although there was some word in the rumor mill to not expect the date to be done through a big reveal event too,) but maybe timing went bad for bigger plans and this had to happen quickly. These commercial-type non-gameplay clips get made by Sony regularly; they usually roll out long after we've seen the gameplay, but it's possible they get finished long before we see them. (And BWT, they are largely done by an external studio, while the actual Sony Santa Monica has been heads-down working to make sure it hits Nov.) So this commercial was done, the SoP recording session (with probably an intro/walkthrough from Barlog or Eric Williams and maybe an appearance from Christopher Judge & Sunny Suljic) fell apart, and they needed to put a product on the docket so that shippers know when they'll be moving the product. So they ran the commercial rather than hosted the event.

Sony is aware that gamers will show up for footage whenever it is shown, so it's not a massive celebratory event like it should be, but that less-than-expected feeling will go away easily once they actually have a new play demo.

Also, yes cross gen is not the best, but consider that they've built this whole engine optimised for PS4 for God of War 2018, there is no way in hell they would build a new engine again for Ragnarok.

It shouldn't really matter either way, Elden Ring - which graphically, doesn't even match up to GoW2018 - still sold really well, was highly rated and is probably the strong favourite for Game of the year.

Elden Ring was an important reminder that gameplay is king.

anything else will probably just take away from the game and be a spoiler for the boss/story encounters and new enemies/weapons. I don't want to be spoilt anymore on that stuff personally.

I thought they were upgrading the graphics slightly from what was shown? Or maybe I misread. I don't have huge issues with spoilers, I think it'd be cool to see what they've been up to just a little bit since that initial video and wouldn't take away much. I assume they will have to do this at some point I just didnt know if there's a set date it's going to happen

Most of the time, the final retail version will look better than what was shown in earlier trailers - It's just how game development works (improvements/changes happen because the game is still in active development).

And even with trailers, they just take slices of gameplay from a stable-ish build from weeks/months earlier (relative to when the trailer was shown).

Yeah it was the perfect launch date tbh, but I guess it's better to get people excited for Ragnarök than more pissed at the Starfield delay, Sony want Xbox and PC fans to play the game too
