They will pull a price hike in some capacity, that could simply be discontinuing the older, cheaper model

Nintendo is the most price gouging gaming company out there. just because Switch was profitable in the past doesn't mean they are immune from increasing cost of energy and assembly like everyone else

How the f*ck, why the f*ck people here are defending price increase? It is not normal customer behaviour. Company that is making billions want to make more billions (this is normal) but you as customers shouldn't simply be happy about price increase like this.
 
Between this, the games being more expensive, the absence of an equivalent to gamepass, and the lack of strong exclusives 2 years after launch, I'm really not in a hurry to purchase a PS5. If I ever will.

Microsoft has an incredible opportunity to stick it to Sony here, let's see if they capitalize or fumble.
 
What does this mean for the 6nm PS5 refresh? I could have seen them getting rid of the original stock and then introducing the price increase with the 6nm refresh, but if they're doing it now with the 7nm og, dunno...

The defense started with "Sony is simply increasing the console prices because the market dictates that it's worth more" and has now devolved into "Microsoft would increase prices too if they weren't so successful and rich". Gotta give them credit for being resilient under all this stress...

The worst part is that they aren't increasing the price in the US (because it's the one market where they could conceivably lose ground to Xbox). That just goes to show it's a cash grab nothing more nothing less.
I'd been holding out to see if I could get a PS5 at some point but now I feel like getting myself a Series S and a Game Pass subscription just to spite those arrogant twats. That's what it is - arrogance towards those other markets.

Poor Japan is getting a 20% hike. But I do see some kind of twisted rationale, Japan is by far the lowest single market for the console in terms of traction and sales. So it won't make a big dent if 500 people less buy it on a weekly basis.

The thing is they are trying to create a narrative that Sony is this horrible company that does not care about its customers when the reality is a lot of other industries have also increased prices.

Sony released a game pass like service last month that now gives players the option to have a catalog of games to play plus they have been decent at releasing a steady flow of next gen games for people to play on their new console.

I don't agree with the price increase for the console or games but we have to also keep in mind the price of everything else outside of gaming has gone up so why would the gaming industry be any different?

How was Microsoft able to purchase Activision? Oh, right, by generating massive profits in other divisions due to monopolistic tactics leading to a massive moat that allows them increased margins

Here in Japan it's still sold out everywhere unless you're extremely lucky (or sign up for a credit card with a certain electronics store) so it won't make that much of a difference anyway. Anyone who was willing to pay around 60,000 yen probably already bought from a scalper.

Come on, the same crew that were ok with MS charging for people to play F2P games for a decade and an endless list of similar stuff are now pretending to be the champions of consumer rights.

It isn't fooling anyone. Not even someone who was planning to buy a PS5 next month would be this mad over a ~10% raise in price.

we all know that Sony bought studios, psygnisis being one of them to get the games exclusive and they were Multiplatform. they didn't want future versions of wipeout coming to other consoles after the first game did, then they pretty much made sure that naaco games like ridge racer didn't appear on Saturn to. come on you aint that naive

Well when i read the OP i was actually going to defend Sony a touch, for similar reasons you just said, although still a shitty move, but after reading the absolute bile in this thread, fuck em.

And my point was more how many people on this forum take their fave billionaire companies side, and never the consumer, you know us.

What are you going on about? Psygnosis was bought out so Sony had studios to make games for their console. Wipeout didn't exist when they bought it. Also Wipeout released on Saturn. All those games came into existence after Sony purchased Psygnosis. So nothing was lost from Sega. Show us the receipts that Sony stopped Namco from releasing games on Saturn.
