KDE devs talk Steam Deck and their work for it at Akademy 2022, over a million shipped

Not bad at all for something that is only available on their website.
It also seems like the wait between order and invitation is now 2-3 weeks. They might soon take orders without queue.

Got mine on Saturday, not touched it much but it's an impressive little piece of kit. Installed Elden Ring and Doom Eternal just to see how they ran (would not play either like that) and was quite pleasantly surprised.

Installed a SNES emulator so I've got that process down now for anything else, I love how it's legit just a little Linux PC, do what you want with it. It's gonna be my catch-up device for a ton of old RPGs I've never got round to actually booting up.

Got mine 2 months ago and stare it every day at 5 to preserve it from use.

I'll buy another upgraded model when that comes. The thing looks great from my limited sessions looking at it at 5pm.

I didn't need a Deck. Got one anyway and so far I'm quite happy with it, and even found myself wanting to play on it rather than on any other console or even my PC.

That's great. I guess by 2027 we will finally get the chance to buy it here. Yay.

I decided to get one as a Christmas gift for myself. Guess Christmas might come early with the accelerated shipping dates.

Nice!

Great number!

I, like I'm sure many others, am waiting on a 2nd gen/ model refresh before I jump in. It's just too clunky, too big in it's current form.
Components take space, no way around it. This thing is a PC in handheld form. I don't see how a revision can be smaller.

Got it on Friday and this thing is incredible - plays game very well and I love the customisation you can do for best quality / battery life balance.

Yeah, I'll wait for a Gen 2. It may be a few years, but it will totally happen. And hopefully it comes with an OLED screen.

Just picked up Ghosts n Goblins Resurrected (Verified now), and Tales of Valeria this weekend to play on the Deck.

One of the best handhelds I've ever owned.

I've been playing on my deck more so than my PC. I love this device. Definitely beats all those shady chinese x86 handhelds in terms of price/performance.

The Deck has become my favorite console. I was planning to skip a Deck 2 but honestly, if it's an improvement I will probably happily buy it.

If this was a PSP-3, 1 million since February? Yeah, that would be a failure. What's worse is this doesn't convey new licenses, so even less value.

I just found out TAA does not work in death stranding on deck but fsr 2.0 and xess both work and look like dlss. no aliasing, 40fps death stranding on deck. amazing

A PSP would probably be sold in more than a single online store? Comparing them is fucking dumb.

This number is irrelevant since it's literally all the consoles they've been able to produce so far. And that's after ramping up production previously.

Why would retailers want to sell a system with purely digital sales? They get basically no money from the hardware.

The number isn't irrelevant, whether they can produce more, what they've produced and sold right now isn't good. Period, point blank.

this is definitely something i want to get before i move to europe - i heard you can run most games on 30 at normal graphics settings but to run 60 you need to run medium to light. is this true? Also how is the modding scene for things like snes games? what is the most recommended model, etc? i was going to get the mid range one. how long did it take to ship to you that do have them? i heard it can run switch games better than the switch itself.

What are you even talking about? Retailers don't give a shit about a console being digital only. They make far more margin on a console than they do games. Not to mention retailers haven't had any qualms about selling digital only consoles since the 00's.

A million is a massive number for a niche product like this. This is more consoles than MS and Sony have sold in countries with multi million dollar marketing budgets.

Spoken by someone who has never worked in retail.
