They'll push it as far they can. I imagine it will be in small increments, not large increases.

You clearly have not been in the 'Game pass is profitable' thread. Plenty of doubt about Phil in that one. It's not a strawman and I never claimed you personally said anything about believing Phil or not. Doesn't change the fact that currently there is no actual Xbox price hikes so for now we are talking about a hypothetical. So why is he bringing it up? He is essentially saying "why are you believing him now" in his post. A wierd thing to say because why would he lie about price hikes, not to mention it's a complete strawman because I've not said anything about not believing him about profitability.
I'm glad for people like youAs somebody who hasn't bought a game in a long time and just plays whatever is on game pass. They've got me. Hook, line, and sinker.
Consumer affordability is also a business strategy, hopefully both Sony and Microsoft can eat some losses for the growth of this industry in these increasingly challenging times.Xbox is a very seasonal brand, they sell the most during the holiday season and they don't want to kill their sales both hardware and subscriptions during this key period for them.
There's nothing to applaud, it's a business strategy to reach a goal.
They'll shift their priorities soon
Possibly there are some cultural differences between us. In the states, it isn't uncommon for people to use phrases like "what I see" or "from what I see" or "how I see it" to express personal opinions or beliefs based on a situation or something seen or heard. I read the quote and listened to the audio and then stated my opinion of what I was seeing in that quote. You are free to see something different in it. To me him mentioning that they had held their console pricing was a reference to Sony's increase (why would you even be mentioning that otherwise, it's not something that regularly happens).
"All I see" in particular is generally used to begin expressing a contrary opinion to that held by someone you are having a conversation with about something seen, heard or read. Person A says "look at that hoodlum on the street, he's up to no good", person B says "all I see is someone standing on the street".
At any rate, I shouldn't have responded in an incendiary way with the line about the dumbest comment. That was a dumb comment by me there, we clearly just see things differently here.
"What we are seeing is that the price of low-cost goods is going up at the same rate as food across the piece with some real highlights... cooking oil and pasta, I would add tea, chips and bread to that - really going up and very, very few things going down at all," the chief executive of the UK Statistics Authority, Prof Sir Ian Diamond, told the BBC.
"Today it's a poorly built video game. Building a metaverse that's like a living room is not how I want to spend my time. What I see in the metaverse world is that we're at the early stage and this will evolve."
For me £7.99 is already too much. I can get one game a month that I really want to play for £7.99 and its mine forever. There are months in gamepass that nothing that I want to play comes out.It should of increased already to be honest. I pay £7.99 a month for PC gamepass, that includes EA PLay, and now a bunch of Ubisoft games.
Compared to Ubisoft Plus which is £12.99 for around 100 Ubisoft games.
Its ridiculous the price of Gamepass really but i suppose you have to offer a great price to get people into the eco system. Still i will be surprised if it rises more than something like 3 or 4 pounds, which i will be more than happy to pay.
1 game a month? Come on? I've got 4 games I'm currently playing on GP and there's loads I'll play when I'm done. There is so much there from old to new I've only bought one game this year and 2 more to come. For me £7.99 is already too much. I currently use the XBL conversion and if that gets removed then no gamepass for me.
Yes but a game that I really want to play. I got Resident Evil 7 and The Forest for roughly £8 to play for this Halloween. Those two games alone beat any gamepass month of 2022.1 game a month? Come on? I've got 4 games I'm currently playing on GP and there's loads I'll play when I'm done. There is so much there from old to new I've only bought one game this year and 2 more to come.
I don't complete 1 game a month on average.1 game a month? Come on? I've got 4 games I'm currently playing on GP and there's loads I'll play when I'm done. There is so much there from old to new I've only bought one game this year and 2 more to come.
Like clockwork............This thread has gone exactly like you'd think just by reading the topic title.

Yeah tell that to the posters in the Sony price increase threads. But now its normal, right??It's not a question of if but when. People need to keep that in mind. Plus there's no need to get worked up over this as it's normal for some prices to increase.
Sorry, not having this at all, this isn't about cultural differences. You are American (?) and I'm British, we speak the same language (or at least we are supposed to). Even in your example case of "all i see" - the person has visibility of the situation (they can literally see the person) and as such they are able to give their interpretation. How can you give an interpretation of something you can neither see or hear? Like I said, it's blind guessing.
I'm going to provide a few examples here.
It's profitable right now (and never said prior to now), because they haven't released shit for first party AAA this year. Lots of money saved in that equation. Next year when they have to recoup those development costs for all those potential bangers like Starfield, etc., on the other hand...So increasing the price for new people to jump on board is the correct method you think?
So you think he is lying about future price increases?

Not sure where this 'lying Phil' strawman is going but I just wanted to hear your take about these possible price increases seeing as it's your worst fear and you haven't been able to shut up about it in unrelated threads ever since somebody else did it:
Would have thought you would be pretty upset hearing this news from Spencer but apparently he's just an honest dude who's lying about future price increases.
Ore you can buy it for $60 and its yours....I can't wait to subscribe for 30 euros/month to play next Elder Scrolls that will take me 2 months to complete!
Comments sound like it's in response to Sony raising its price. Common sense, at some point the price will have to go up, but he reassures that prices will remain the same through the holidays. Business as usual with a hint of security.
I mean the 'holidays' are just the next two months
Gamepass is effective free or near free in the usa if you do the search and quest daily.
I'm not sure what you are trying to do at this point. My statements here were always my opinion and I had already addressed the lack of context and the guesses/assumptions I was making around that before you took a more confrontational tone. I'm not arguing against you stating that my posts are my opinions, I'm agreeing with that. I'm unaware of the context and was simply making a personal judgement based on the quote and the audio available to me.
There are thousands of ways to use language, you can find/give examples for everything. As a general rule, I'd never take a position that someone hearing or seeing something equates to a fact. Just because I believe that 20 people could witness an event and in the end you'd have 20 different stories being recounted to you, each one colored by the experiences and psychology of the individuals, and yet no one would need to lie either. You could combine them all and get a good idea of what happened, sure, but no single retelling would represent 100% fact. We see/hear this quote differently, that is all. People sometimes use expressions about "seeing" as a way of telling what they take from a particular thing, we both take different things away from this quote and the audio that is available. It is what it is. We could trade a 1,000 posts and that likely won't change.
Also, your examples don't even allow for facetiousness.
You say "I don't like a Mercedes", I say "I'm hearing you can't afford a Mercedes".
F*ck Jim Ryan!!!
Oh wait...
MS has taken a backlash for price increases before and even decided to reverse course.
They don't want to risk that again going into this holiday. They just wanna secure ONE win without shooting themselves in the foot and now they're tip-toeing super safe.
Yes there are thousands of ways to use language, many of which are incorrect. You can say what you want, let me know how this goes for you in scenarios where you don't have resident clowns backing up you up.
The only thing you can take away from the currently available audio and transcript is Phil's response, nothing else. Anything else and you are guessing.
And Sony is the pure evil with its PS5 price increase

Pretty sure he is drawing parallels of double speak, not calling anyone evil. Are you suggesting Sony isn't evil for being the first console manufacturer ever to increase its price vs dropping over time, adding itself to the list of corporate greed, taking advantage of the pandemic shortages worldwide, but Microsoft IS evil for not yet doing so, but suggesting a price increase in the future for GamePass, a service that's practically a steal? Makes sense.

Iger is already hinting at reversing the price increase.im very late to the party but i just saw the huge price increase coming to disney +
Idk how peopel cannot see the writing on the wall right now. Multiple big AAA titles coming next year, the subtle hints….Disney plus started at 6 dollars and with the past 1.5 years increased by double the price.
I definitely see gamepass increasing to 20 a month for ultimate after the holiday

Eventually it will but I don't expect that for awhile. They will introduce new tiers before that most likely.Iger is already hinting at reversing the price increase.
GP may see an increase. Then some people will unsubscribe. That will be the permanent struggle governing it forever. At some point it gets high enough that its counter to profits as a whole. Personally I dont think it will ever pass $20 per month at the top end of the spectrum.
Price increase as fine as long as they can justify through content. I figured $20 a month or $240 a year is still one hell of a deal, at least for someone like me that plays a lot of games on Game Pass.im very late to the party but i just saw the huge price increase coming to disney +

The wonders of competition. So maybe somewhere in 2023? By then Sony will have had 2 more price increases
Not an excuse it's what it is. economist have been saying this since the housing crisis then they have really been screaming about it for the past 3-4 years. Especially during Covid lockdown. Sony said it in the beginning Microsoft just ate the cost, I guess until they can't anymore.Well i mean they DID decide to go all in at the very start of the generation setting a precedent for others to use as an excuse to raise their prices.... so yeah. Is it necessary? Maybe NOW, but immediately out of the gate before there is even inflation and a recession? Nah.
The article is from before Iger came back. And yea, he's dismantling most of the stuff Chapek was doing including the price increases. Chapek was about to raise the park prices AGAIN (it's already $250 for just Disneyland+DCA) and Iger might be putting that on hold.Iger is already hinting at reversing the price increase.

You can't spend 70 billion without raising the price.
