I wonder how much GP subscriptions will fall once the bulk of people on the whole 3 years of XBL Gold thing reach the end of the gravy train.
Or put differently, I wonder what percentage of GP subscribers are actually doing that. Kinda like Adblock on browsers. A surprisingly large number of people don't use them and don't even know about them.

It's not a strawman and I never claimed you personally said anything about believing Phil or not. Could I make it on just Game Pass? If I had to, probably. There's a lot of quality and variety. Games like Tinykin, Requiem and then Wo Long and Starfield next year. Yes.
But it'll always be supplementary for me as I'll always want to buy From Soft games, Nintendo games and some from Sony.
When they get rid of the Gold conversion I'll probably just sub as and when at £7.99 a month. I only play free to play online games anyway.

Sorry, not having this at all, this isn't about cultural differences. You are American (?) and I'm British, we speak the same language (or at least we are supposed to). Even in your example case of "all i see" - the person has visibility of the situation (they can literally see the person) and as such they are able to give their interpretation. How can you give an interpretation of something you can neither see or hear? Like I said, it's blind guessing.
I'm going to provide a few examples here.

I can give hundreds of other examples of how these phrases are commonly used - it is always in conjunction with someone actually having visibility of what they are about to talk about.
In your situation more correct phrases to use would be "my feeling is" or "my guess is" or words similar to that effect. "All I'm hearing" implies that you have heard something, when in fact you haven't, which is why I asked about where currencies were mentioned.

For me £7.99 is already too much. I can get one game a month that I really want to play for £7.99 and its mine forever. There are months in gamepass that nothing that I want to play comes out.
I currently use the XBL conversion and if that gets removed then no gamepass for me.

Just a matter of when really. The price will go up. They will do it before starfield. Its no big deal. If anything, gamepass is too cheap for what it offers.

Yes but a game that I really want to play. I got Resident Evil 7 and The Forest for roughly £8 to play for this Halloween. Those two games alone beat any gamepass month of 2022.
Did you not see the trash that was coming on gamepass over the summer? That shit wasn't even worth £2 a month.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do at this point. My statements here were always my opinion and I had already addressed the lack of context and the guesses/assumptions I was making around that before you took a more confrontational tone. I'm not arguing against you stating that my posts are my opinions, I'm agreeing with that. I'm unaware of the context and was simply making a personal judgement based on the quote and the audio available to me.
There are thousands of ways to use language, you can find/give examples for everything. As a general rule, I'd never take a position that someone hearing or seeing something equates to a fact. Just because I believe that 20 people could witness an event and in the end you'd have 20 different stories being recounted to you, each one colored by the experiences and psychology of the individuals, and yet no one would need to lie either. You could combine them all and get a good idea of what happened, sure, but no single retelling would represent 100% fact. We see/hear this quote differently, that is all. People sometimes use expressions about "seeing" as a way of telling what they take from a particular thing, we both take different things away from this quote and the audio that is available. It is what it is. We could trade a 1,000 posts and that likely won't change.
Also, your examples don't even allow for facetiousness.
You say "I don't like a Mercedes", I say "I'm hearing you can't afford a Mercedes".

It's profitable right now (and never said prior to now), because they haven't released shit for first party AAA this year. Lots of money saved in that equation. Next year when they have to recoup those development costs for all those potential bangers like Starfield, etc., on the other hand...

Comments sound like it's in response to Sony raising its price. Common sense, at some point the price will have to go up, but he reassures that prices will remain the same through the holidays. Business as usual with a hint of security.
GamePass, the deal of the century might turn into the deal of the decade some time in the future, or might even continue with the same or better value depending on content added... the horror.

I can see an issue if GamePass was right at the cusp of being worth it or not, but it's such a ridiculous deal right now, that even a price increase will keep it at a great deal, down from insane, and might even remain insane if the acquisition goes through and hundreds of games are added to the library.

If you don't want to do that, you can still get 3 years of game pass within $100 via regional pricing and gold conversion, it's a 2 minute process at most.
The options are all there, people just need to spend an extra minute to look into them

Yeah they will raise their prices, but maybe offset by offering an attractive family plan. If they can get more people onto the service via a 5 person shareable offering then at some point some of those people may split off and get their own plans to share with their friends etc. It's not a bad strategy really, it pulls more people in and families benefit overall. I'm highly looking forward to it.

Well i mean they DID decide to go all in at the very start of the generation setting a precedent for others to use as an excuse to raise their prices.... so yeah. Is it necessary? Maybe NOW, but immediately out of the gate before there is even inflation and a recession? Nah.

It's all about the content. If they were bringing out regular, exciting, impressive experiences particularly in the more AAA space then I think a price increase will be ok to most.
Look at Sony's games. people are willing to pay the extra because they believe the content is worth it , it's exciting, it shows off the newer hardware and so on.
Passion projects and indies are cool with me , the bigger games usually make the most noise however.

But, as a human being I can opine based on the context of what is being talked about and the tone of voice and phrasing what I think the context was. And thus, what I take away from that quote could be different from someone else. Regarding my "all I'm hearing" statement, I'll stand by that. All I hear in this quote is a vague non-answer, that tries to avoid making definitive statements. Obviously, my take away is based on my gut reaction based on the tone and phrasing of the reply, that the leading question/topic was regarding MS so far not increasing prices with the rest of the market. Thus I believe Spencer wanted to take the PR win there (doubling down on this holiday) but was reluctant to make any kind of future based guarantee of no increases, by stating the obvious regarding them possibly not being able to hold the prices in the future based on costs.
It's true that he never mentioned currency exchange, but I never stated that was a quote by him. You say the quote never referenced that at all. I say it indirectly did by mentioning them holding price on the consoles, which is the standard practice outside of changes in the value of currency.

Are you suggesting Sony isn't evil for being the first console manufacturer ever to increase its price vs dropping over time, adding itself to the list of corporate greed, taking advantage of the pandemic shortages worldwide, but Microsoft IS evil for not yet doing so, but suggesting a price increase in the future for GamePass, a service that's practically a steal? Iger is already hinting at reversing the price increase.
GP may see an increase. Then some people will unsubscribe. That will be the permanent struggle governing it forever. At some point it gets high enough that its counter to profits as a whole. Personally I dont think it will ever pass $20 per month at the top end of the spectrum.

The article is from before Iger came back. And yea, he's dismantling most of the stuff Chapek was doing including the price increases. Chapek was about to raise the park prices AGAIN (it's already $250 for just Disneyland+DCA) and Iger might be putting that on hold.
MS has more or less made back the $70 billion in profits from the start of this year, they absolutely could if they wanted to.
Personally I think we'll see a reduction in third party content on gamepass before we see a price increase, when ABK closes the number of older games will shoot up and be available forever, along with more frequent first party releases. There will be less need to keep bringing in newer third party games.
Seeing Sony fans begging for a price increase is pretty sad. It's like they can't wait for a service they don't use to increase in price so they can brag about it costing other people more? It's so weird to see.
No one is expecting gamepass to still be $10 a month 20 years from now, of course it will go up, it's just a case of whether it's still worth it at that point.

They haven't spent $70 billion, and they certainly Aren't going to put that cash against Gamepass.
Disney spent $32bn on content in 2022 (admittedly covering Hulu, Disney + and ESPN+) and Disney Plus takes up around a third of that.
At the same time, they've long signaled their ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) was significantly lower than the competition.
GP content costs are much, much lower, and the ARPU is in line with the competition.
I wouldn't hold my breath for a price increase after the holidays if I were you, but at least it's got you to admit that 'there are big AAA games coming to the service in 2023'. That's progress
